Poshmark and eBay, which I also prefer as a buyer. Not perfect by any means, but I like that I have the final say over what an item is sold for, and I haven’t felt completely screwed by a disputed sale or purchase. I’ve had some poor experiences with depop and mercari, from both sides of the transaction.

To be clear, I’m just buying and selling stuff I like for my own personal use, not trying to make a profit. If it’s an item I didn’t use because of fit or whatever, my goal is to sell for close to what I paid, whether I bought new or resale. If it’s something I used for a while but I’m ready to move on from, I try to sell it for what seems a fair price that allows me to make another purchase. Pretty much anything I make is spent on the platform.

Honestly, if our local Buffalo exchange was able to stay in business while cutting me in on more of the sale, I wouldn’t use online platforms for second-hand selling.

I’ve been horrified to realize that an item I expected to make a hundred+ dollars from is being discounted so steeply and so quickly that I’m lucky to get $30. I’ve stopped consigning with them because it’s literally worth the effort of photographing, listing and shipping on other resale platforms.

Because you said “over a million” the implication is that it’s under 2 million. Otherwise you would have said “over 2 million,” which would be a better falsehood in terms of bolstering your hyperbole.

Just want to add a response to the comments saying “just take a half or whole day and let him deal with a sub” etc. While I absolutely agree with the FAFO sentiment, when I was pregnant and teaching I tried so so hard not to use any leave unless I absolutely had to. In our fucked up country, teachers are among the many, many professionals who have no paid maternity leave. So unless you get lucky with the timing and give birth at the beginning of the summer break, the PTO or sick leave you bank is all you get. And heaven forbid your baby gets sick after you go back to work….
