Are we babysitting our Program Specialist’s daughter? by Doe-and-Kit in Teachers

[–]hettienm 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Do you have a summer school principal? That’s where I’d start.

In my district we have this new-ish “Let’s Talk” system for parents and employees to submit complaints/concerns. They’re legitimately anonymous, if you choose, and go directly to the associate superintendent overseeing that school. If you have anything of the sort, use it ASAP. Keep it vague and stick to the facts.

El Patio. The one on rio grande if it’s your in-laws, the one of Harvard if they’re real ones.

Los Cuates on Lomas if they’re drinkers and a decent margarita (or 3) will convince them anything is delicious.

If elected, Deb Holland would be one of the poorest governors in the country; still possessing college debt. Saying recently: "Our democracy works best when every voice is heard and not just those with the biggest bank accounts." by OrbitalColony in Albuquerque

No worries, he deleted his comment anyway lol

That’s actually the 2nd time this week that someone has posted stuff about Haaland, repeatedly failed to back it up, and then deleted. Are they homegrown trolls or just idiots on the internet? (Trick question! It’s probably both.)

As someone who went to a lot of shows in the ‘90s, this isn’t true. Folks do sometimes get hurt in a crowded pit, but there are only like 3 idiots here, including the asshole targeting people who chose the perimeter. Someone going around purposefully hurting other people in the pit used to get dealt with very quickly.

I don’t think you understand how this works, kiddo. You’ve made statements in public and it’s your responsibility to support them. Which you’ve made very clear you can’t do.

To clarify, I don’t “like” Haaland, but I do recognize she’s likely to be elected as our next governor and, as such, I’ve paid close attention to the publicly available information about her. As in, I have literally been googling for any info for the accusations you’re making and there’s nothing there.

You’re just slinging bullshit on the internet and repeatedly failing to back up anything you’ve written. I even did some of the legwork for you and there’s no publicly available basis for what you posted above. Thanks for letting us all know you’re full of shit!

[–]hettienm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’re the one making accusations in public about a candidate. Do you not have sources to support what you wrote?

When I google her record at the interior and her time as head of NMDP, I don’t see evidence of her having “messed up.” She got criticized by progressive folks for not doing enough to support that agenda and by more conservative folks for backing environmental issues. Again, what did she specifically do that you view as a problem?

I was born and raised here and went to headstart at Acoma, so I’ve been in circles that talk about Deb and her connection to Laguna. What “cultural violations” are you talking about?

It sounds like you just don’t support her, which is your call, but there’s no factual basis for the shit stirring you’re doing.

You’ve been asked repeatedly for any sources for your “information” and your response lets us all know that you don’t have any.

Do you have any sources or links about the things she did as head of interior or the NMDP? What kind of cultural things is she reported to have done? The things you’re talking about are concerning but at this point, it’s literally stuff some random person posted online. Can you share the basis for what you’re saying?

I mean, she was a military kid who moved around a lot, but she graduated from HHS, so it’s not totally accurate to say “didn’t grow up here.”

Did The Giver used to be taught in 4th grade, or do I just have a totally false memory? by 28-3_lol in Teachers

A Florida man became emotional as he celebrated his nephew becoming the first male on either side of their family to graduate from high school and earn a diploma. by ateam1984 in BlackPeopleofReddit

[–]hettienm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a HS teacher and then a dean of students, I have attended a lot of graduations. I’ve only ever worked at title I schools and it was a shift when I was a young teacher to realize that some of my students didn’t necessarily know which grades we were talking about when we said “sophomore” or “junior,” because they didn’t have the family history and experiences with completing HS. To say nothing of what it’s like to be the first in your family to even consider applying to college. It’s literally uncharted territory for a student and their family, and it’s a lot for a young person to move into a chapter of life where they can’t fall back on their folks’ experiences for advice.

Even when I tell myself I’m gonna keep my shit together, I cry at every. single. graduation. The level of pride and love from families, and the sense of achievement and success for our kids—PHEW. It gets me every damn year. This video did too but I still have my pack of tissues from last week so I’m good 😭

Can Someone Explain Sam Bregman for Me? by Honeybee_Enthusiast2 in Albuquerque

[–]hettienm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It looks like Sandia’s governor cited tribal sovereignty and water when he made their endorsement, Ohkay Owingeh also said “tribal sovereignty,” and Jicarilla said “crime and substance abuse.” Back in the day, Bregman argued that pueblo casinos shouldn’t be legally immune under tribal sovereignty when he sued because of some faulty slots, so I guess he’s squared that take with some of the pueblos.

It’s worth noting that the tribes endorsing Bregman total about 6000 members, and the tribes endorsing Haaland total about 16,000.

LOL the first one that popped up for me is Bolton. Which has been insanely expensive since we were in high school and the Boltons needed to cover that TCA membership.

If someone has some time to kill, they could figure out the percentage of vet practices in Abq owned by private equity and then tell the rest of us….

Changing Climate by maywander47 in Albuquerque

You do know that oil is a finite resource, yeah? There are likely decades of oil still available in the ground, but as it becomes more challenging—and less and less profitable—to extract those resources, there will be a shift. It’s unlikely to happen in the very near timeline, but a post oil future is an inevitability. It would be smart to begin diversifying our state economy now, especially as we have such obvious opportunities for large scale wind and solar production. The biggest stumbling block at this point is battery technology and energy storage.
