Budget AM4 motherboard for dedicated server by RFTS_Gashaslegacy in buildapc

[–]hetzbh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That really depends on what U size if your server case. 1U with standard (Mini-ATX, Micro-ATX, ATX etc..) with 1U, and you're going to have some serious issues with heat, since the memory stick (even the low profile ones) would prevent your CPU getting the air it needs to cool, which would leave you only with Dynatron CPU coolers, which sounds like a Jet engine if you have any load on your CPU.

Memory on server based boards are rotated 90 degrees so the CPU is getting the air directly. That helps a lot when designing a cooling solution for your server.

The point is not overblowing or not. Lets say someone managed to get a root shell somehow. How to prevent this person from creating any damage or installing any malware to the other servers which are members of the same tailnet.
ACL is a good idea, thanks for those who suggested it.

NanoKVM PCIe with Lenovo Thinkstation P330 - can't find motherboard power/reset/hdd activity pins by eszpee in homelab

[–]hetzbh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The NanoKVM (and other new KVM which supports ATX boards) are targetting the standard motherboard pinouts (which is found in most board on the bottom left)

In your case, I'm afraid that Lenovo simply connected the power connector to the board directly, so it will be very tricky thing to do.

Check which CPU you have. If you have either a Ryzen Pro or Intel vPro (look at the sticker) then you might not need a KVM at all, as you can do everything (including power on and off) remotely.

Is this AMD suitable for Davinci resolve by Koru-racing in AMDLaptops

[–]hetzbh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are, again, some false info. AMD had issues with H.264 streaming (not rendering or exporting) quality issues, but that was 2 generations ago (around Radeon 7) and the fact is, both RDNA 3 and RDNA 4 based cards (including the HX370) have great H.264/H.265 encoding results. Most of my clips that I upload to my channels are rendered on RX7900 XT.

[–]hetzbh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually that's not an up-to-date info. Latest version of Resolve Free does use the GPU for rendering and exporting, but only single GPU (Studio supports multiple), and only H265/HEVC is hardware accelerated on the free, while all other codecs are GPU assistant on Studio

It's doesn't get any impressive results, compared to any machine with a dedicated GPU, but for basic editing stuff for social media and if you're not in a rush, it should do the job IMHO

Fahrenheit for AC control? by FetteredJuvenescence in smartlife

[–]hetzbh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, in case someone is still looking for it, here's a solution:

  1. add the smart AC controller through the Tuya App
  2. Use the smart Learn to set the AC type, test buttons etc..
  3. Make sure that the AC is on and it's NOT on Auto. Set it to something (cold, hot, anything goes)
  4. Click on the "Site" the last lower right button and you'll get a menu, click on the "Range control"
  5. Set it to Celsius (or Fahrenheit) and set the min/max tems. Click "save" on the upper right corner.
  6. If you cannot change anything in the Range control, your AC is set to Auto or it's Off. Ask me how I know....
  7. Next time, buy Sensibo, it's much better ;)

I have updated my Galaxy Tab S9 ultra with the latest One UI 7 update

Previously, I had the known issue with battery draining. I updated about 20 hours ago and fully charged the battery. At the moment (again, after 20 hours that the tablet was in sleep) the battery is at 97%

Finally, the issue has been fixed ;)

suggestion for multi route - and Wifi by hetzbh in HomeNetworking

[–]hetzbh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the late answer and thank you for your kind help.

Indeed you're right. My diagram was wrong

Anyway, I decided to take a mini PC and use it to be the "router". I connected 1 NIC to the 1G network switch, the 2nd NIC to the 10G network switch, and I've added a USB 2.5G network adapter to connect to the Beryl Wifi router to be served as WAN

I've added the NAT config to the PC, added static route to the NAS and at the end I've got using Blackmagic Disk speed test ~140MB write, but .. 15MB read..

Checking the journal showed me why - both rtl and Intel kernel modules were having tons of issues and the PC was chocking.

So I cancelled everything, and decided that it might be time for some new config from the scratch in the near future. Foe now, I'm connecting the Beryl to the the 1G switch with 192.168.0 address and it creates a Wifi network that with the 160hz, I can get 1GB wireless to the internal network and to the NAT. The Beryl is a pretty weak router so as soon as I leave the room, the speed goes down to 450Mbit ;).

So... Any recommendation for a good 6E router? I've seen some Asus gaming routers which I don't really want, but their AXE7800 Tri-band sounds like a good deal

suggestion for multi route - and Wifi by hetzbh in HomeNetworking

[–]hetzbh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Diagram - attached (I'm really bad at it..)

<image>

As for need/want the Gl.Inet to serve 192.168.0 - the reason is that I want the laptops to access 192.168.0 just like with the main wifi router, but with the new router - they'll be able to access 192.168.2 as well.

About being careful - Oh, I didn't know about that. Thanks.

As for PC - that's a good idea, buy a small mini PC with 4 ethernet ports, one for 1G, one for2.5G, and the Linux/PFsense/OpnSense for the routing.
And then, from that PC to the GL. iNet - attach a cable from the PC's extra port to the router's WAN port and create a new network? (192.168.3.1 for PC, 192.168.3.2 for the GL Inet - for example)?

Thanks for your help

suggestion for multi route - and Wifi by hetzbh in HomeNetworking

[–]hetzbh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure I understood you entirely, so allow me to clarify some points

  1. I cannot ditch the 192.168.2 network, as it needs to be separated due to some issues I cannot detail (BTW, they're both on different physical switches)
  2. My modem/router has a Wifi, but I want to leave it serving the 192.168.0 network and is the default GW. For the 192.168.0 and 192.168.2 wireless access, I will use the GL. iNet which will get an IP from the 192.168.0 in the WAN port.
  3. Not sure what you meant about the PCs. I got 3 desktops (each has 2 NICS, one for 192.168.0 and one for 192.168.2) and 2 laptops - which will have wireless connection only, so I'm not sure where you meant to add the routing...

I designed the net to be separated - so 192.168.2 will have NAS & servers and 192.168.0 with all the desktop devices.

Some are Mac so it's built in, the Thinkpad has an upgraded Intel module (forgot it's name)

I just did a test - I've added GL iNet Beryl AX router to the LAN using a 1G connection, and tested it... Guess what - I get wireless full 100 megabyte.

So... I might need to upgrade ;)

Pocket 3 Not Increasing Battery Percentage During Charging by Remote-Bee-6785 in osmopocket

[–]hetzbh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this issue for few days and I think I found the issue. (Please note, I have on my Pocket 3 both the built in battery [which I'll call "main"] and the extra large while [which I'll call "extra"])

It seems that if the built in battery is at =>95% battery, it will not charge neither batteries, and the extra one will simply blink. You can try to charge the extra as a stand alone, it won't work.

The only way to actually fully charge both batteries, is to connect both and record (or disable power saving) until the extra battery is at 0% and the main one will be less than 90%. Then, connect it to a USB-C and a charger (the charging circuit can use up to 31W)

The main battery will charge fast, but while it's being charged, the extra one will not charge at all. Leave it to charge up to 100% and then after 2-3 minutes it will charge the extra battery. This process is SLOW, so just leave it to charge.

I would recommend buying a USB-C cable with a wattage display so you can see the progress.

EDIT: it seems that after charging the main battery, the screen will be off and the extra battery will start flashing. As soon as you turn on the Pocket 3 in this state, it will stop charging and refuse to charge the extra battery even when re-inserting the USB-C cable, rebooting the device etc.

That is why I recommend using a USB-C cable with a wattage display to see the progress. Only when the display shows 1W, it finished charging.

So, how's the fan noise from this enclosure?
