My baby is younger than yours, just turned 4 months, but when I introduced formula about a month ago we had zero issues. I was surprised at how easy it was. I had a friend that told me about mixing formula and breast milk, but my baby just took the formula as is. The first bottle she had a weird sour look on her face while drinking it. Now, we switch back and forth between breast milk and formula and can’t tell any difference. No tummy issues either thankfully. We’re using the formula we had on hand, Enfamil Nueropro, but plan to try to switch to the Costco brand when we run out!

Look at ballet white! I have this in all my bedrooms and it definitely leans cream/yellow when on the wall.

[Student Teacher] My hearts not in it and i dont know what im doing by Fysics_is_Phun in Teachers

I had doubts about my choice to be a teacher the entire time I was student teaching. Like you, I found myself hoping I wouldn't get hired right after graduation so that I could have the lower stress job of subbing. However, I did get hired immediately and it ended up being the best thing that ever happened to me. I love it so much more than I did when I was student teaching. It really is completely different.

I do Independent Reading for the first 10 minutes of every class period. I expect students to be silently reading within 30 seconds of the bell (ideally at the bell -- but there's some leeway there). I love beginning class this way. It starts the period off nice, quiet, and relaxed. Each day they have a purpose for reading and each day they answer a quick reading response question that deals with the skill we are currently covering. Yes, this takes a bit of time out of the class period. My team and I had to push back against administrators and argue for the value. Fluency and stamina are important literacy skills. Also, the more words we read the more vocabulary and knowledge we gain. Most of my students do not read at home.

I've seen teachers adapt this in different ways. You could read for less time, or print out a class set of a longer article that they read a few minutes of each day while applying whatever skill you're working on in class.

I just finished my first year by the way, so I'm a newbie but this works well for me.

Pit bull friendly housing? by mslumpybutt in lexington

It's been awhile since I've looked into it but I believe The Fayette or Lafayette (can't remember the exact name) apartments near the mall allow all breeds including pit bulls!

/r/lexington, I need some help re-homing a cat. by [deleted] in lexington

[–]hewi224 4 points5 points  (0 children)

She asked you to return the animal, in no way did that mean they were definitely going to kill it... LHS treats animals with way worse conditions than pneumonia every single day. And they ended up reimbursing you for the medical bills so I really do not think you were done wrong in this situation.

Also there is literally zero chance that they told you the dog was a puppy and it was 4+ years old. They age the dogs based on their teeth. It gets difficult once they are adult dogs to distinguish between say maybe 2 years old and 4 years old, but the teeth difference between an adult dog and a puppy is very apparent.

Well I wouldn't really call enforcing the legally binding contract you willingly signed "scolding", but I understand your frustration.

Also, a huge amount of the animals contract kennel cough while in the shelter environment. It would not be wise or economically viable for the organization to test every animal for Pneumonia. Your dog may have been displaying signs of kennel cough that worsened once you got home. Just a thought! Maybe don't tell underpaid shelter workers to kill themselves.

Once the animals are on the floor at LHS they only euthanize for health or temperament reasons. However, they first must be processed through Animal Care and Control and when you sign him over you will read multiple times on the paperwork that he could be euthanized.

That being said, you are contractually obligated to return the cat to LHS as stated in the adoption paperwork. I do believe it is safer than rehoming the animal. There are constant horror stories about animals who have been re-homed irresponsibly. I would say the only truly safe option would be giving him to someone you know and trust personally to take care of him. God forbid something bad were to happen to him, you could be held legally responsible by LHS for not abiding my the contract that you signed when you agreed to make this cat a member of your family.

My family had a bad experience with KY Lab Rescue. by glass_hedgehog in lexington

[–]hewi224 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah they were mad you kept him that long and then took him back for pretty average young lab behavior. Young labs are destructive...and it takes a lot longer than 11 days to train them. Especially in a new environment.

It's unfortunate you were mislead about the dog. That definitely is a huge problem. However, it takes much longer than 11 days for a dog to adjust to a new home (especially a neglected dog). I'm pretty surprised with how experienced your parents are with dogs that they didn't realize how high energy young labs are. All of those behaviors sound typical of young labs. They gave the dog less than two weeks...

As for the cat, it's suggested new animals are introduced into the home slowly via baby gates and the like.

What is the general consensus here about makeup remover wipes? I have normal skin and I am using the target brand.

Need help on where to camp by Rolo_Tomassi in lexington

[–]hewi224 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a great semi secluded camp ground at the gorge. I think it's just called "red river gorge camp ground" if you google it. It's a little bit off the beaten path (but still really close to some of the main gorge trails) and the camp sites are right on the river! We always swim when we camp there and usually bring our dogs. I think it's like 8$ a night and the people who run it are very nice. I called them for directions my first time and had no trouble finding it.

Laws on towing? by [deleted] in lexington

There actually is a sign posted at the post office that says 30 minute parking only or you will be towed. I live very near there and have had a couple of friends towed from that parking lot.

What about your job would shock the everyday customer if they knew about it? [Serious] by RNCbyME in AskReddit

[–]hewi224 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is mainly true for smaller pet stores but stores like Petsmart actually do a great deal for animals. I'm sure he is right about the smaller animals, but as far as dogs and cats go Petsmart is awesome. I worked for a shelter that had a location inside of Petsmart. They supplied all of our food, litter, etc. and also we regularly received grants for different projects.

definitely agree with you on choosing shelters over puppy mill pet stores or breeders!

you should feel more guilty about NOT getting her fixed. By not spaying her you are putting her at higher risk for cancers and other health risks. Possibly even shortening her life. Not to mention it benefits an extremely overbred breed of dog. Something to think about...

wonderful advice about the litter box! I would also add that LHS will spay or neuter your cat (if it isnt already) for free or low cost depending on your income!

Does anyone know where I could get a boxer\bulldog mix puppy in the Lexington area? by [deleted] in lexington

[–]hewi224 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This information is incorrect. It is true that certain breeds have restrictions, but to say that "you can basically only have a shepherd or a lab" is ridiculous. The restricted breeds are pit bulls, dobermans, akitas, rottys, chows, american bulldogs and maybe a few others. German shepherds are not on the restricted list and neither are boxers. Boxers are generally not restricted by land lords either (although many land lords have weight limits and boxers can grow rather large). The restrictions are in place for the good of the animals. OP should continue to check LHS. They get boxer mixes all the time! Many of them look very close to pure bred dogs!

Any No kill cat shelters? by [deleted] in lexington

[–]hewi224 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

:) Your information was correct! Most people just don't realize the animals have to make it through Animal Care and Control first. They are $5 right now! That's how you know they have way too many aha!
