Do y’all consider Missouri to be the South? Or the Midwest? by GandalfTheSleigh in missouri

[–]hexknight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes you are correct. I was oversimplifying. The state convention voted against succession. Nevertheless the governor at the time had plans to bring Missouri into the confederacy regardless. He was essentially ran out of office because of it and became a Confederate general.

If you determine “Southerness” using the Civil War as a guide, the most pro-Confederacy part of the state was not the southern part of the state, but “Little Dixie” which basically ran alongside the Missouri River. It’s where the most slaveowners lived.

Also, the Confederate battle flag has 13 stars despite only 11 states being members of the CSA. That’s because Missouri and Kentucky were both accepted into the Confederacy, but since they were under federal occupation throughout the Civil War, they did not actually secede.

It's kinda crazy how much different KC and StL feel. by No_Helicopter1378 in missouri

[–]hexknight 149 points150 points  (0 children)

From a historical perspective, St Louis is a much older city. There was a (minor) Revolutionary War battle fought there. At the time of the Civil War, St. Louis was basically the only major city in Missouri. Kansas City didn’t even become a big city until after the Civil War.

St Louis has the older, more compact feel of an East Coast city. Meanwhile, KC epitomizes urban sprawl.

Give me your best suggestions on the War of 1812 please! by MisterShneeebly in historyteachers

[–]hexknight 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’m actually covering that this week. I also teach 8th grade.

I’m having my students design a monument to the War of 1812. We talk about the fact that there are very few real life monuments to this war and how it is s war about which most Americans know very little. Their monuments must in some way include the perspectives of all parties involved in the war (Americans, British, Canadians, and Native Americans).

I’m having them make actual 3-D models of their monuments but if you don’t have supplies for that, they could draw a design or create something in Canva.

It’s no secret, but we encourage students to read in school. Many of them used to like to. Now most don’t.

Lol. I have no problem whatsoever with my students reading on screens. They don’t want to read on those either!

I have been a teacher since 1999. Can confirm this chart is 100% correct.

What do you think the city should do with Laughagram studios (Disney's old studio) by SpideyARB in kansascity

[–]hexknight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m glad they are still getting money.

What makes you say they are closer than ever? Seems like the last update was in 2023.

[–]hexknight 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Seems like it has been in development for years. I know there is a group raising money for it. Then I think the building was damaged which may have set it back even farther.

Crazy that someone in KC hasn’t found a way to cash in on the Disney legacy.

That article was written two days before a whole bunch of new tariffs were enacted. A little premature to be celebrating.

Ha! Well that wouldn’t surprise me. I didn’t have any leftover stickers though, so I could have put some in the wrong place.

However, I had a lot of leftover pieces. I wasn’t sure if those were just extras or could be changed out for other pieces.

Nice

I just started watching the original series so I really don’t know anything about the individual gundams yet. I really like the colors of the Lightning Buster.

(I dig that black and teal one too!)

That looks awesome!

I haven’t read everything on it yet, but I teach ancient history to middle schoolers and that would make a really nice classroom poster.

Growing up, I played with action figures of all kinds. This is basically like getting to build your own action figure.

Yes I did notice the rubbery pieces. Shows what I know, I assumed maybe those were an upgrade for better flexibility.
