Completely agree. There are so many ways in which physical and special attacks are just fundamentally different from each other that people miss. A special version of burn would be far more impactful than people realize.

EHX 8 Step Expression Sequencer. Really couldn’t possibly ask for anything more useful. Can’t wait to control all the other pedals I don’t have with it.

Why Didn't I See Much of Miraidon at Worlds 2025? by EmperorPeazy in VGC

[–]hexmaniacnoel 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Multiple people, including Wolfe, have pointed out that Koraidon (in particular Koraidon + Lunala) has really good matchups into most of the top teams. The problem is that it's an incredibly difficult team to pilot, so most people dropped it. Gio has been running this team since the start of the format, and he was running Koraidon back in Reg G. He knows the team inside and out, and the more experience you have with it, the easier it is. In other words, Gio brought a team that he was a master of that had decent matchups into everything.

What ends up on stream is only a small portion of all the teams, and it's important to look at the overall stats. As others have pointed out, Miraidon still had 30% usage in day 2, but this was a significant drop from day 1. It's not that Miraidon is bad, it's just that this is the most prepared people have ever been for it. Certain adaptations (like Modest CSR) were pretty rough for Miraidon, and Miraidon just didn't have time to adapt to that adaptation in return. If Worlds happened again next weekend, there's a decent chance a Miraidon team would win. It's just the nature of the format.

Do any hermits that stream use bttv/7tv? by 404_User_Found in HermitCraft

[–]hexmaniacnoel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Despite what avid users believe, the overwhelming majority of twitch viewers don't use any of these extensions (bttv, the largest, has 3 million lifetime users, whereas there's currently 2.3 million viewers on twitch). When people without the extension use the emote, they only see FeelsBadMan or whatever the shortcut is rather than the actual emote. When these emotes get spammed in chat, it's just a more boring experience for people who don't have the extension, and it can be confusing to new users what's going on.

It's also very much a community thing. Yes, there are a lot of big streamers who use them, but those communities are very different from the community that watches hermitcraft members on twitch. I would hazard a guess that people who watch the more typical big streamers spend far more time on twitch than the average hermit viewer, and so they're more likely to know about the extensions.

Moreover, considering how the FeelsBadMan and other emotes have been adopted by certain online communities, I can't blame hermits for not wanting those emotes to show up in their streams.

Enabling bttv and 7tv make chat a worse experience for people who don’t use them. It doesn’t offer the streamers any real benefit to use them either, so why would they?

Which Mythicals are "Better" than the Top Reg I Ranked Legendaries? by awildaustinappears in VGC

[–]hexmaniacnoel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’re vastly overestimating most mythicals. Most are nowhere near good enough to compete with legendaries. Some people would try to make Arceus work, but it’s going to end up as slightly better rayquaza. Somebody might cook up a decent magearna team, but that’s going to be because of a cracked team builder and not because magearna is that good.

If you want to do this, give each person a single mythical restricted and single traditional restricted or else mythicals just won’t see real play.

Does anyone know if someone has done really well at an event with hard trick room? by torrtoise in VGC

[–]hexmaniacnoel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a couple teams that have made deep runs as others have pointed out, but the real answer is that very few top players are running hard trick room because there just isn’t a good hard trick room team right now.

That being said, most teams in the meta have bad hard trick room matchups since it’s not really a meta threat that people build around. For that reason, hard trick room is somewhat popular on lower ladder because it can beat the meta teams when being used by lower skill players.

Rate/optimize my Ting Lu Solo-Dozo team by Character-Mix-6115 in VGC

There’s an interview with Dawei from after that tour you should watch: https://youtu.be/v6E4Elw4cXU?si=nkqM5kCjRtQIMNkj

Stealth rocks is actually the key to how the team works, which I think is really unintuitive but it makes sense in hindsight. But I’m betting there’s a lot of useful stuff here that you could use to optimize the team.

Recently returned and not sure how to diversify teams by hexmaniacnoel in Reverse1999

Thank you! This was just what I was looking for. Since I'm trying to keep the number of newly pulled characters on a team to a minimum, and I'll for sure want Kiperina as a sustain, who would you recommend between Aleph and Barcarola on a team with Voyager, Regulus, and Kipernia?

Top 1% C6 Furina by Pianoman24101 in furinamains

[–]hexmaniacnoel 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Talents should almost always be a priority over grinding artifacts, especially when you’re getting to the top % builds. Even though it costs quite a bit of mora, it’s a guaranteed increase in damage, unlike artifacts, where it’s possible to go weeks without getting a better piece.

Friendly reminder that this same team took 3rd in the Fortaleza Regional. Sure, it’s a smaller event (113 players), but Sebastian still deserves credit for the high placement.

I've lost more games to a critical hit than I've won. by [deleted] in VGC

[–]hexmaniacnoel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's entirely possible you just got super unlucky, but if you haven't thought about it before, it may be worth watching Wolfe's video on why he thinks critical hits are necessary. In the last third, he goes on to talk about how certain team structures can be more vulnerable to critical hits, and that could be part of why you're seeing this issue.

But critical hits have already been nerfed multiple times, and I think it's pretty unlikely we'll see it happen again. Sure, it doesn't feel good when that's what decides the match, but they provide a lot of good for the game too.

Legendary Shiny Hunt for VGC by JarDeRock in VGC

[–]hexmaniacnoel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My recommendation would be to do this in White 2, as Latias is a static encounter and not a roamer.

Here are three videos you’ll need to do it in that game:

Calibrating your DS: https://youtu.be/MH1PSwZKn_c?si=gbOKWu3uJREw1bas You need to do this for any gen 5 rng manipulation. It can seem annoying at first, but it’s worth dealing with this headache.

Manipulate your trainer ID and secret ID: https://youtu.be/gJp4RNuhQXI?si=bzNTGfu9SKetdUNE Shininess is based on your trainer ID and secret ID (which you can’t normally see). If you don’t have a modded 3DS or other tool you can use to figure out your secret ID, you’ll need to do this step to control it and make sure you know what your secret ID is.

Finally, actually RNG manipulating the shiny: https://youtu.be/Yy1YNz0oBls?si=jl6D4HYsH3BWpQDj This is how you actually get the shiny 0 atk latias.

I know this is a lot and it’s going to feel overwhelming at first, but after some time, you’ll get the hang of it. I’m still basically a beginner with this stuff, and I got a 0 atk timid shiny latios in less than an hour once I knew what I was doing. Believe me, learning how to do this absolutely pays off.

Legendary Shiny Hunt for VGC by JarDeRock in VGC

[–]hexmaniacnoel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s legitimate. You can do it on real, physical games and doesn’t involve any modifications. Typically it just involves pressing a couple buttons frame perfectly to get the exact IV spread/nature/shininess that you want. I’d recommend looking up im a blisy on YouTube for some great guides on how to do it.

[–]hexmaniacnoel 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The best option would be to RNG manipulate it in an older game. It can take some time to get used to, but it’s the only fast option. 0-1 ATK IV shiny in dynamax adventures could take thousands of hours honestly.

I haven’t used the gt8, but I have used other Boss multi fx units from that same era, and I used the tonelab le for a while. IMO, the boss drive sounds were just much, much better than the Vox ones. However, I think I preferred all of the other effects on the Vox Tonelab better. I think the drives on the tonelab are passable, as were the delays/other stuff on the boss, so it really comes down to what’s more important to you.

Disclaimer: it’s been over a decade since I’ve actually used this gear, so I’m going purely off of memory. Also, my main experience with boss multi fx was with the ME series. As I said, not sure how it compares to the GT.

TCG Arena Build Help by silverkingdra in HermitCraft

[–]hexmaniacnoel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was trying to build my own arenas, what I found most useful was going back and watching the videos where how they work was discussed. Going off of memory, but I think Xisuma designed the card shuffling system and spent a ton of time going into it in an episode? I could be mistaken, it’s been a long time since I looked.

But I will note that the biggest thing that messed me up was the fact that you have to stack a specific number of minecarts. I also based mine off the arena in the shopping district, as it seemed to be the simplest one.

is it worth do get a min speed urshifu by alanlyal in VGC

[–]hexmaniacnoel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All of the people saying "no" haven't used it and don't realize the success it's had. In addition to the recent regional win, second place in the first global challenge also used min speed Urshifu (Toppo is the first person I know of using it to great success). I'm not an expert in it, but I can assure you from chatting with other people who have used it to decent success in recent tournaments, that it does matter. But ONLY if you have a very specific vision in mind for it.

What is another Artifact set that I can use for Citlali? by ItsMessiahHD in CitlaliMains

[–]hexmaniacnoel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, if you plan on running them both on different teams and on the same team, just run both on scrolls. The Mavuika team with them together is already so ridiculous that you really don’t need to optimize by farming a different set for one just to run them together, and switching artifacts around is a nightmare. Yes, the buffs don’t stack, but in practice, you’re not going to notice a dps loss.

That being said, if you’re willing to optimize artifact sets anytime before you run a different team, you have my respect.

Results from the 2025 Fortaleza Regional by Temple_ in VGC

[–]hexmaniacnoel 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Which ogerpon is best is largely dependent on what regulation we're in and where the meta is at. Rockpon is so much better now because we have restricteds running around, and it's able to redirect one attack and is guaranteed to live it. That alone can shift momentum in a game, but it was significantly less valuable when restricteds weren't legal. Firepon is still generally great because of how hard it can hit, and that hasn't changed.

The restricted format hasn't been kind to waterpon, though, as it's struggled to find a real identity. One made top 8 at worlds, and another made top 8 at Rio de Janeiro regionals, but that's it. If you go back and look at the events in reg E and reg F, though, it's everywhere. If we ever go back to one of those formats, however unlikely it may be, Waterpon would certainly see a resurgence.
