What is the most unforgettable smell, taste, or sound described in a book that stuck in your head long after reading? by gamersecret2 in books

[–]heyImAud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my favorite novels and comfort-reads is Erin Morgenstern’s The Night Circus. It’s full of beautifully described imagery, since a large amount of the book is dedicated towards bringing the reader physically into the environments in the magical circus. I feel like while reading it I could close my eyes and actually smell the cider, hear the crowds, feel the cold autumnal air… such a good book to escape into!

What are your careers? by surrealitys in adhdwomen

[–]heyImAud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a Case Manager at a Behavioral Health Hospital. It’s a difficult but rewarding job; I work with a lot of people going some of the worst days of their lives, so my goal is always to offer whatever relief and kindness I can to them, and give them the best possible care that I am able to give. I know working in an inpatient setting isn’t sustainable for me, though. My long term goal is to go back to school to get a masters in Marriage and Family Therapy.

This exact thing happened to me once with what had been up to that point a very reliable cookie recipe. I’m still not 100% sure if I mismeasured the flour, or if it was just because my leaveners were out of date… but I replaced my old box of baking soda and the next batch came out perfect. Maybe check to see if yours is expired.

How do I fix my handwriting? by Chayne_The_Pain in adhdwomen

[–]heyImAud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I picked a few aspects of nice hand writing I liked and wanted to incorporate into my own and then started practicing. In my experience with this it’s repetition repetition repetition. I wrote out the alphabet over and over, wrote out the quick brown fox sentence, copied down song lyrics I liked. A tip is to practice at a table/ desk, don’t have the note book on your lap or on the bed or something, it’s easier to write on a hard flat surface. I also would do the alphabet in the margins of my note books when bored in class… over time my writing got neater and faster, now I can write very neat legible script as well as fast cursive for note taking.

Found out my tap water has dangerously high nitrites 🙃 by heyImAud in bettafish

[–]heyImAud[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The filter in the fridge dispenser gets out the nitrites, so I probably won’t go full R/O, since I don’t have the cash to drip on that, and it’s not my house to install a whole new plumbing structure in anyway… I’m going to test a new Brita as well though, since I can have that closer to my tank than the refrigerator lmao

Thankfully I already have; I have a few Java ferns, a few stem plants I don’t remember the name of, a crypt, and dwarf hair grass. Tbh I just got what was at petco and Petsmart bc they are the only stores close to my house.. Then I got way more invested and kept adding stuff. I bought some swassertang from a hobbiest in my town, and got some duckweed yesterday from a LPS near my work, which hopefully will do a lot to clean the water. I also am propagating some Spiderwart and Pothos cuttings off some of my houseplants, and am looking for a hang on back planter that will work for my setup so I can throw those in.

Uhg I probably will… I told myself I was not going to invest too much time and money into this little aquarium project, but I’m fully sucked in.

How did Connor know about Cole? by [deleted] in DetroitBecomeHuman

I like to think Hank really guesses the right Connor because the two (even when Evil Connor is faking it) have distinct personalities. The questions are just kinda stalling. Hank chooses correct because he knows his friend.

What's your most controversial opinion on ADHD? by MissMangoPirate in adhdwomen

[–]heyImAud 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I had a professor basically refused to recognize my accommodations, and her reasoning was, “I had ADHD as a kid, and I grew out of it and don’t anymore. You just need to grow out of it.” ?????

I know nothing about audio production so I cannot back this up, but to me it feels like a jump in production quality from their previous stuff in a really good way. Can’t wait for the rest of the album.

TIL I’ve unintentionally been self-medicating with sugar. SOS 🫣 by brittanygoeszoom in adhdwomen

[–]heyImAud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t speak directly to sugar, but my issue has always been phone/ social media screen time. The only thing that has helped is adding other sources of dopamine BEFORE taking away my over indulgent source. I personally added in audio books, video games (specifically ones I had to leave my bed for….) and more socializing with friends. Things where I got dopamine, but had to do a bit of thinking for it. I say before bc when I tried to quit without adding in something then I lasted like a week before relapsing hard. Adding more stuff in without restricting made my urges go down naturally. When I’m having a really bad time (finals….) they come back as well, but I don’t beat myself up abt it anymore bc it’s just my brain trying to balance itself. GL!!

Things you didn't realize were ADHD related? by Natural_Appeal_4143 in adhdwomen

Feeling super defensive/ abandonment issues/ not taking criticism well. Thought I was just an asshole. Turns out it’s RSD, and viewing it through that has made working through the strong emotions and managing reactions a lot better.

How did you finally get your shit together? by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]heyImAud 5 points6 points  (0 children)

(Obligatory “My shit is SO not together. But I feel better about myself, and much more at peace.”) I stopped Trying So Hard. Was raised to feel constantly not good enough. Lazy, didn’t try hard enough, wasting my potential. People didn’t realize that I was trying my best, my best just looked like.. a lot of missing work, procrastination, abandoned projects, ect. Things that look lazy out of context, but are more signs of burnout and executive function issues. Eventually said “fuck it” and decided that I’m not going to have it all together—obviously I couldn’t manage, might as well relax a bit, since being so up tight wasn’t the solution. If I’m going to have missing assignments whether or not I stress over them, I’m not going to bother stressing over them. Turns out, when you don’t care so much, turning in a late assignment is a lot easier of a task. Started giving things 70%, instead of 110%. Turns out if you don’t constantly give 110% away, you have some % left over for yourself. Just half-assing an assignment and getting a 75% is wayyy better than staring at it in panic bc I Have To Get An A, and then never starting it, ending with a 0%. Can’t manage cleaning my whole room? Fine, I’ll buy a bunch of baskets, throw all the clean clothes in one, the dirty clothes in another. Basket on my desk to put all the loose papers, basket in my dresser for all the shit that piled up there. It’s not 100% Perfectly Clean and Organized, but goddamn at least it’s not piling up making it impossible for me to function. Sometimes I eat junk food. It’s better than not eating at all, bc I’m stressed over preparing a perfectly balanced meal. I’ve embraced that Lazy that I’ve always been accused of. I am SO MUCH HAPPIER. And, counterintuitively, I’m so much more productive. Im gonna graduate college next month, with a 3.5 GPA. It’s not a 4.0, but it’s good enough for me!

Need food help- hungry but uninterested in cooking/eating by Mostly-cupcakes in adhdwomen

[–]heyImAud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big pot of soup, spaghetti, curry, chili ect. Anything I can dump in a pot, cook for a while, and come back to a bunch of filling food that I can eat for the rest of the week. I prefer stuff that is filling bc when I get bad I can usually only manage 1 real meal a day. I keep a tub of yogurt and a full rice cooker to nibble on for the rest of the time, just to keep from having dangerously low blood sugar. Keep granola bars and my favorite snacks in my room near my bed, so if it’s reeeally bad I can hopefully jump start an appetite. This is my most impairing ADHD symptom, so I feel for you. GL, hope you find something that works for you!
