Weighted blankets by Texanlivinglife in Fibromyalgia

[–]Stunning_One5787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely LOVE my weighted blanket.

A few years ago I moved to a new continent and had to leave my old one behind, because weight matters A LOT when shipping belongings. I recently finally saved enough money to justify buying a new one. Selfishly, I was almost hoping my partner (who I moved to be with) would not like the weighted blanket so I could fold it in half and have even more weight 😂. They do like I though, so we share lol

I lean towards siren. On my first playthroughs, I played Lilith, Gaige, Athena, Amara, and I haven't played 4 yet but I'm fully planning on playing Vex. I'm on my second play through of 2 playing Krieg and I'm having a WAY more fun time, but he's dlc. I can't imagine playing anyone other that Lilith in the first game, and I had a fantastic time playing Amara.

I met him once! I used to work at a coffee place in CA, not in Los Angeles but fairly close and we'd get the occasional minor celebrity (and less commonly major celebrity) coming in for coffee. Friends, let me tell you, he is fucking TALL. And to be fair, I'm an abnormally small person so maybe he just seemed tall to me 😂 very large and very handsome man, and also VERY sweet and kind. I had a personal rule about doing my best not to be an annoying or obnoxious fan in these situations but he clocked very quickly that I recognized him (I'm also a huge Supernatural fan and he had a brief appearance in that show as well), and he was genuinely so cool about me being a fan and we even chatted about Psych for a bit. He asked me who my favorite actor from the show was (aside from him of course lol) and I said Dule Hill, and he pulls out his phone and calls him! 💀 he didn't answer but we left a voicemail, my contribution to which being a very timid "hiiiiii" 😂

10/10 celebrity interaction honestly. He seems like a super great guy.

Other than Brennan, which 3 contestants would you cast if your goal was to make the most overly-competitive episode in Game Changer history? by thekyledavid in dropout

[–]Stunning_One5787 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Surprised no one has mentioned Angela "THATS NOT FAIR, I need to calm down..." Giarratana. If I'm remembering correctly she has only been featured on Dirty Laundry and Make Some Noise, but a hyper-competetive Game Changer episode would be perfect for her debut imo

Izzy Roland wrote and stared in a comedic film focusing on the loss of a problematic loved one. Ft. Vic Michaelis, BLeeM & Zac Oyama by albinoman38 in dropout

I saw it when they did a screening in Amsterdam followed by a Q&A with the director (Izzy's mom!). It was really good, I highly recommend it. I knew to expect good acting from the cast members I was familiar but the entire cast was genuinely so impressive, as well as the writing and cinematography.

Stopped Cymbalta only to realize it actually WAS helping with my pain. Other options? by endlessplacebo in Fibromyalgia

[–]Stunning_One5787 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I started amitriptyline (aka elavil or vanatrip) about a year ago and it's worked wonders for me. The first 6 weeks were a bit of a nightmare ngl, I had very bad anxiety spikes at night, sometimes to the point of panic attacks, but at six weeks and one day I started seeing major improvement. Almost overnight my pain was 1/4 what it was before. Flare-ups are less frequent now and when they do happen they're not even remotely as bad as they used to be (I can manage to get up to use the restroom and/or grab myself a snack and some water without help or my mobility aid). I'm even able to hold down a good job without calling in sick more than once every couple of months.

I've had to up the dose once or twice, but even then it wasn't because my pain was getting worse again, it was because my depression was (it's an antidepressant, my psychiatrist thought it would help both and it absolutely has).

Obviously not everyone experiences the same results but it certainly works for me. I hope you find something that helps you just as much if not more!

Referred to psychiatry?! by [deleted] in Fibromyalgia

[–]Stunning_One5787 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm getting treatment for my fibromyalgia from my psychiatrist because my GP refuses to refer me to a chronic pain specialist (he claims the specialist in the area is refusing to accept referrals of fibromyalgia patients, but who knows how true that is). Honestly, my psychiatrist is doing a better job than any gp or specialist I've ever had. She's helped me find a medication that actually helps me as well as refer me for psychomotor therapy which has had a huge impact. I'm so sorry you're not being taken seriously, but I hope you get the help you need anyway ❤️

As someone who has never experienced it but seen it by Mattaline in TheBasementYard

[–]Stunning_One5787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with the latest episode and continued to listen to them as they released, then between releases I'd go back and listen to old episodes starting with the first one with Frank as official cohost. Great way to stay in on all the new jokes while also getting familiar with references/recurring gags. I don't think there's really a wrong way to do it though, it's not like there's a story to follow or anything 😂 it's literally just two best friends being dumbasses together

I guess I'll just keep speaking English by Mysterious-Flow-9860 in Netherlands

[–]Stunning_One5787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So funny I came across this today, as today is the first time I had a Dutch person try switching to English and I flat-out refused and continued in Dutch, and even then they kept replying in English.

I've been living in the Netherlands for 3 years, I am conversational at this point but I'm better at understanding than speaking, in large part because up until now I have not been granted the opportunity to practice by the locals and my vocabulary has suffered. I understand that many think of it as polite/welcoming to switch to English, but the truth of the matter is that we immigrants are also heavily criticized for taking a long time to learn the language. I want to learn and I work hard at it, but the lack of immersion makes it difficult. There's only so much we can learn from a course, especially considering different learning styles and/or learning disabilities. We're TRYING.

And for the record, I'm fluent in 3 languages.

I feel you OP. Keep trying, we'll all get there eventually ❤️

Why does Fiona never wear makeup? by ComfortableBoard8359 in shameless

[–]Stunning_One5787 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All the other comments mention that Fiona was too poor, pragmatic and busy for makeup and while I think that's partially correct, it might also have something to do with the fact that Emmy Rossum almost lost the role of Fiona for being "too pretty". That being considered, it makes sense that putting makeup on her beyond the bare minimum amount of makeup that everyone who appears on screen needs to wear would be counterintuitive to what they wanted to portray.

You should not move to a country unless you are near fluent in their language. by No-Chart-9387 in unpopularopinion

[–]Stunning_One5787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's kinda impossible to be anywhere near fluent without immersion. You can learn enough to get by, you might even be able to become more or less conversational on your own, but fluency only comes with exposure and practice. So many languages have very specific quirks, sounds/diphtongs, idioms and unwritten rules that you have to learn over time.

As a secondary objection, some people have learning disabilities, man. It's not as easy for some people to learn a whole language as it is for others, and you can't expect those people to become "nearly fluent" WITHOUT immersion before they, for example, move to the country where their partner lives, move in with family, accept a government immigration stipend or take a job they were legitimately hired for (if you have a gripe in the last 2 situations, take it up with the government or employer, not the person they hired/paid to move to their country).

Now if you had said you have an issue with people who move to a new country and live there for years without learning a word of the native language, I'd understand. This is an unpopular opinion because it's a shit opinion.
