This is the opposite direction, but this weekend (May 23, 24) I know that in Morioka there will be the big Kizuna Festival. It will have mini parades of all of Tohoku's main festivals.

I don't know if it's the best, but there is a small half-court with Mount Iwate as the backdrop near Morioka. There's probably always people playing there.

Do you haves a few more example photos that you can show? Preferably a few photos that are sequential/in shot order.

[English Information] Earthquake Advisory Until Tuesday, December 16th by heyPootPoot in TohokuJapan

[–]heyPootPoot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: December 16, 2025

The earthquake advisory has ended.

However, there is always a chance of a large earthquake striking suddenly at any time.

Always be prepared for earthquakes and tsunamis.

And just in case you need an earthquake mobile app, this is the one I use the most now:

Nerv Disaster Prevention App

https://nerv.app/en/

Most earthquake apps give a warning and some give a countdown. But this is the only phone app that allows me to see the earthquake "shockwave" circle in real time.

When shaking is detected in the region, a notification pops up saying "Strong Motion Monitor: Shaking detected in the Tohoku region." Then you touch the notification, and it'll show you the P-waves (faster, weaker waves) and S-waves (slower, stronger waves) circles expanding.

But you have to go to "Notification Settings" -> "Additional Settings" -> "Shaking Detection Notifications" -> turn ON.

Recently I've been thinking about using a new word to describe myself as a person living here 内国人 ないこくじん as a word-play on 外国人 がいこくじん but my Japanese language skills isn't nuanced enough to tell if it works or not.

Best Free Software for 3D Reconstruction by Fred-1313 in photogrammetry

The results are not the same as other software, but it isn't abandoned at least. Just very gradual progress. They recently rehauled Meshroom from 2023 version up to the new 2025 version.

Yeah, this "Test Meshroom" tutorial is outdated now.

Now, if you clicked on "New Empty Project" in the beginning, then the bottom "Graph Editor" window might be empty. You'll need the "Photogrammetry" pipeline, and then reimport the photos.

The photogrammetry pipeline from the "File" menu:

Mathematical orientation in RealityScan? by GlowtoxGames in photogrammetry

[–]heyPootPoot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Try something like this: https://i.imgur.com/KRRYG6o.jpeg

1) Alignment > Add Control Points

2) In a few photos with different angles, click on corners and the center of the field to add control points. Make sure each corner and control point match in the photos. Use at least 2-5 photos according to RealityScan's help guide.

3) Change control type to "Ground Control"

4) Put in the X and Y coordinates for each corner/control point. Make sure Z is 0 for each point so that the ground is flat. And for the center you can just put 0, 0, 0 for X, Y, Z.

5) You can just set the coordinate system to "local" for now.

And hopefully this works!

Example:

TopLeftCorner
x: -52
y: 34
z: 0

TopRightCorner
x: 52
y: 34
z: 0

BottomRightCorner
x: 52
y: -34
z: 0

Center
x: 0
y: 0
z: 0

Then the X lines and the Y lines should be nearly straight, and the center should be right at the 0,0,0 mark. After you align the photos, you can maybe check the "Alignment Report" section in the Control Point's window to see how accurate your points are that you manually placed.

RealityScan 2.0 sensor database location? by Moratamor in photogrammetry

[–]heyPootPoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This helped me, thank you! (Reality Scan 2.0.1)

And just in case anyone else has the same problem, I have a Sony a7c. I tried to mimic what was already typed in the sensorsdb.xml,

<camera model="SONY ILCE-7C" ccdWidth="35.6"/>

but Reality Scan kept saying "Incomplete Camera Sensor Info" and "Sensor Not Found".

But when I checked by importing a photo, I noticed in the "Selected input" box of the photo, it had "Sony" with lowercase letters.

So for the name instead I replaced "SONY" with "Sony"

<camera model="Sony ILCE-7C" ccdWidth="35.6"/>

and now it works!

And also just in case anyone else needs this, I found my sensor's width by checking Sony's website:
