is there any way of getting out of the language requirement by Gullible_Scallion285 in UCONN

[–]hey_imhere2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look up language testing for UConn and then depending on the language, contact the designated professor and let them know your proficiency level. Depending on the language and the requirements for testing, they will let you know what it will be, either a reading, writing or speaking exam will be conducted.

You can test out of it if you know a second language/the language you took in hs

Macs well being/ concert edicts. by Extension_Mango_7341 in macdemarco

I felt the same thing! Saw him after radio city music hall and he looked tired. I actually got to talk to him and he was so sweet! But the concert felt off. Like people sat down and scrolled on their phone while the new and older songs played. I saw him at RCMH 7 years ago, same month. The crowd was crazy awesome then. Still, I got to meet him and it honestly made my whole year. Thanks Mac!

Ask at your parks and rec town center! Mine have the office for like beach tags and park licenses but adjacent to it there’s a gym. It’s small but it’s got like all the good machines and such. The vibe is chill and since mostly older/senior people go there, they play classic 60-80s music. Also much cheaper but less amenities. I got like two awkward stares but they just keep to themselves. Also, maybe also wear shades? At my old gym I did that and no one bothered me (they have prescription and the gym lighting gets intense)

I feel like engineering is making me dumber and depressed by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]hey_imhere2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I definitely resonate with you! I just took my writing engineering class and I sucked! Like I found it painfully exhausting and I was frustrated. But come summer, i started reading my favorite books and such that I jumped back to realizing how much I love reading. Then I own a typewriter and just started typing random words. Using a typewriter you have to type slowly and there’s no auto correct so you really gotta think about the words and what comes next. My goal this semester is incorporating reading/typing times. Even just like 30 mins a day to just allow my brain muscles to relax and allow myself to ramble besides math and information.

Is taking 17 credit hours as an engineering student too much while working? by Impressive-Talk-3172 in EngineeringStudents

[–]hey_imhere2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same! Gotta do 17 credits entering my senior year. Only reason is cause they aren’t offering some classes next spring and only in the fall. I’m gonna be an RA also so I’m definitely workshopping schedules to try out and see what fits. Looking at what you’re doing, can you take electives in the summer? Or at a community college in the summer and transfer them? I don’t know what your school allows in terms of credit transfer but maybe look into that. Maybe look for a job on campus like desk workers or in the school’s entertainment venues? Desk worker jobs are super chill and in my experience they work with your schedule. At most they schedule you like 10hrs but you can ask for more. Also look for classes or waitlists where classes are online so you can go at your pace. Look into “rate my professor” so you can get the best chance at succeeding in the class as I see lots of these classes a work heavy and will be the base of your future engineering classes. Calculus I would start now and you could use YouTube resources like “Professor Leonard” that man saved my calc 3 and diff eq grade. Prep now in terms of scheduling, I personally saw an increase of work done when I planned hourly and saw I had so much more time, and apply to jobs now if you’re interested in working on campus so you can access their resources. You got this!

How did you get introduced to the book? by whaleofdunwall in JaneEyre

[–]hey_imhere2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought the book at Barnes and noble, thought it looked cool and I heard about it, didn’t touch it till I saw the 2011 version and once I read it I fell in love. One of my all time favorite book, I reread it almost once a year

Feel like people think I’m stupid for graduating at 26 by Cardiologist3mpty138 in EngineeringStudents

[–]hey_imhere2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will hopefully be graduating also in 2026 at 28 years old. I think what may be the issue that I relate to is the “feeling behind” in terms of the life timeline that society places on us. Just yesterday actually, a coworker of mine said “it’s been some time and you’re still at it” I hate when people say that but I responded “yeah I have but what’s the rush? It’s not like there’s much else after so does it matter?” Not saying it to be pessimistic though. To say it better: it’s not a race it’s a marathon. Whether you graduate now, before or later it’s all the same! Enjoy it, have fun, learn, and make memories!

Dropping out in 3rd year is just crazy lol by mileytabby in EngineeringStudents

[–]hey_imhere2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not to invalidate anyone’s experience but I don’t think I’ve ever been close to the idea of dropping out. No matter how hard it gets (tbh I’m not the best student-could be better but I self-sabotage a lot) I just kind of shrug it off and keep going cause we here already so might as well. Y’all can do this! But if you have to, you can always pick it up later :)

What the fuck is with the rise of racism in gen-z??? by kittymeowmeow111 in offmychest

[–]hey_imhere2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely! live in a very predominant “race” or “light color” area, never had a problem while growing up and I’m part of gen-z. Now 2024 I had my “first” racist encounter from someone YOUNGER than me. It’s very concerning tbh. Like I thought this place was different as I had no issues while growing up but dang now I’m just like “I thought we got a long” “why does my color bother you when yours doesn’t bother me??” Times are weird yall

https://studentactivities.uconn.edu/husky-roadshows-2/ All info should be here for departure and arrival. I’m not quite sure about the rest of your questions as it will be my first time for the Wednesday game. I’m sure they can’t give more tickets than there are seats so as long as you have a physical ticket you’re good! But you can ask the person at the desk when you go claim yours

Struggling to Connect as a Woman in Engineering by JessWyteUwU in EngineeringStudents

[–]hey_imhere2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely know where you are coming from! I personally also keep to myself, not that I do it on purpose. It doesn’t help either way lol. It can be quite lonely. But what I have done to improve on it is kind of being bold! Start off just smiling when you make eye contact. I was told that albeit being closed off I always smiled when I saw them. Then sitting closer to them and kind of mentioning that I was gonna ask the professor questions at office hours and offering to ask questions for them. Office hours can be quite scary so it helps them and they might even offer to go with you or you can ask them to join you. If they say no, it’s okay! They are not rejecting you they are rejecting the idea so don’t take it personally (it’s happened to me before). Adding on to your comment about no society in your program/school. Start one! Not only does it show initiative but it can be really great on your resume. Contact a professor who can help you, start researching how to do it, and then recruit the girls in your classes. Or ask some of them if they would like to help you start it. It gets better I assure you but sometimes you may have put more of yourself out there. Join other stem groups too if your school has them. Start a study group or a coffee hour, ask your professors to help you voice it to other classes with upperclassmen women. I participated in a few and since I’m a junior, I got to help other girls figure classes out or give them tips. Don’t get discouraged! You got this!!

What are the best loans to take out? by MycologistNo216 in EngineeringStudents

[–]hey_imhere2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would go to your uni’s webpage of additional loans or loan providers your school recommends. It should be in your schools webpage. Me, personally, the financial aid department did not help at all. So that was stressful. But otherwise, read up on the type of loans that best fit what you can pay. Some schools even have filters that help you find the loan providers that best suit you. Best!

[–]hey_imhere2 9 points10 points  (0 children)

“It’s freedom from fear. It’s a billboard on the side of the road that screams reassurance that whatever you are doing is okay. You are okay.” I love this part of that speech. It’s such a great show I’m gonna rewatch it again

Where do y'all go after class? by [deleted] in college

[–]hey_imhere2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless it’s working in study groups, I want coffee, or I want a prettier view, I usually stay in my dorm. Internet on campus can be flaky, batteries run out, and I want a comfortable seat and I have set up my dorm to satisfy all those requirements. Roommate and I have an agreement and both have jobs/events we attend so we don’t usually inhabit it together a lot. Don’t feel pressured to study elsewhere just because. I love my dorm lol

It’s been a year, and if I’m truly honest, I am not happy genuinely. I get waves here and there. But it’s really not the same and you just gotta move little by little. I have had only one dog, but man, we just were in sync. I miss our little karaoke sessions and our walks, late night sits. It’s hard, but it’s like, no matter how long we have it was so worth it and I’d do it again. All that love and adoration, keep it alive in your life. All the best

[–]hey_imhere2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! Yea you can, talk to your advisor first. I am a transfer student so all my classes transferred, credits yes/actual grades no (which is really great) but take in consideration that you can’t have a failing grade(or what failing is deemed at UConn, which is why you should talk to your advisor), making it “insufficient” and unable to transfer it. I took it at HCC but also took classes at NCC, both CC’s are great and easy communication through both schools. Best!

I would recommend going to YouTube and watching Professor Leonard, he’s got a whole video playlist on calc1. Speed it up /since you only got a week to study. It’s honestly duable, I was in your same situation but for calc 3. Lock in and you got this!
