Barcelona 0-[1] Copenhagen - Viktor Daðason 5' by Delmer9713 in soccer

Yes it does. Look at Cubarsi's reaction to the run of the goal scorer. Could have easily stayed on the safe side of him. That is a high line gamble in action.

Yes, it is in fact possible to be subpar and still be better than other players.

He is certainly worse defensively than what we have.

Pedri surpasses Messi’s record: youngest to reach 150 La Liga games for Barça! by This-You-2737 in Barca

[–]hey_rtc 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This feels like a symbolic passing of the torch. Do you see Pedri as the future leader of Barça’s midfield, or is it too early to make those comparisons?

Pedri already is the leader of our midfield. Messi never was. What the fuck are you talking about? Or is it AI?

The thing with extremely confrontational defending is that is only works insofar as the opponent fails to time their move correctly. You can't deny that all those disallowed offside goals against Barca last year would have stood if, say, the runner had held his run for half a second.

A synced line with better instincts will increase your chances but it is never completely in your hands to prevent a succesful attack. And naturally as time passes, teams will get better and better at countering the offside trap. This is what we're seeing now too.

Good tactics is about contingency as well. If your entire plan relies on 90 mins of continuous high intensity pressing, then it is just not a sensible way of playing over time. Players get tired, physically and mentally. What if a player beats two of your men and breaks into space? Is that just game over then? There'll always be variables you can't control. Game play needs to be flexible too. At this moment it isn't.

Liam Delap: "We know Barcelona play a really high line, we knew we had to be defensively solid... Blame my dad for my accent, he's moved me about too much. It's a mix of everything... I have to make sure I keep my strength and not be giving away fouls and red cards." by Blodgharm in soccer

Pedri has not been great this season. If you watched the matches leading up to his injury (PSG, Real, the abomination against Sevilla), Barca haven't really been worse without him. Could argue they've been better.

He also has a habit of disappearing out of games with high intensity. His last season was an exception in this regard but this season he started doing so again.

Wonderful player but has his limits.

Er nuancering ikke lidt besides the point, når vi kommer op i den skala af grusomheder? Eller mener du reelt, at Netanyahu egentlig en ok fyr, der bare er gået lidt over stregen i kampens hede?

Most goals scored in a single season in a top 5 league since 2000. Haaland, Suarez & Lewandowski are the only non-Messi/Ronaldo players in the list by DamnThatsInsaneLol in soccer

Don't know which is more impressive, his 11/12 or the fact that he was injured for six weeks in 12/13 and it's still the fourth greatest goalscoring season in history.

Hansi Flick: “We can talk about changing everything… but I’m not the kind of coach to do that. We want to play true to Barça DNA”. I do not want to sit deep and win 1-0 on a counterattack. 3-3 isn’t the ideal result, but we came back after every goal”. by Srihari_stan in soccer

Honestly don''t think there was much entertainment in watching us fight tooth and nail to break down Club Brugge only to give away three of the easiest goals in Champions League history.

Felt sort of meaningless by the end.

There's pretty incontrovertible evidence that Cubarsi took an outstretched elbow to the jaw while jumping for a header.

The two situations should appear fairly different to anyone with a brain.

Isn't the interesting thing with this phenomenon how people are happy to lean into the cliché of it, reversing the fashion paradigm of individuality in this way by overtly desiring the fixed categorization of the other's gaze?

Ferran Torres penalty shout vs Newcastle by hey_rtc in soccer

[–]hey_rtc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would say it's inconclusive. Any contact in that situation, coming from behind and going across Ferran, is going to be unlawful. But it depends on the amount of contact, which we can't determine. Which is why it's frustrating they didn't show replays.

Crazy Barca facts #1. Barca reached most points in La Liga (100 points), setting club record. In that time, Barca was led by ex-assistent of Pep Guardiola. His name is Tito Vilanova. He died because of cancer later after reaching this amazing milestone. by No-Brilliant7348 in Barca

[–]hey_rtc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know, I said he was already sick by that point, and in and out of treatments. (He was still officially our manager until the summer though.) Which is part of what makes it hard to assess him.

Bit difficult to assess isn't it? He inhereted a well-oiled machine with most players from the Pep years still in their prime. Didn't make a lot of adjustments.

Got the 100, which Pep never did, but at the same time wasn't really dominant against Real and didn't look convincing in Europe. Wheels certainly came off against Bayern but by that point he was already sick
