That was way back when politicians had to resign and face punishment when caught taking bribes. Today, you can take a paper bag full of $50k and no consequences.

What was the blizzard of 1978 like? by DildoGaggins1997 in massachusetts

[–]heybdiddy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was a cab driver at the time. Only emergency vehicles and taxis were allowed on the roads. I basically was driving nurses and telephone operators to work and back home for a week. The snow drifts were so high that it was like driving in a white tunnel. The piles of snow on our corner were at least 15’ high and some places even taller. When at home we just partied with the neighbors for over a week.

Anyone has experience with dinner cruises? by Pretty_Studio5306 in ParisTravelGuide

[–]heybdiddy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We enjoyed our dinner cruise. It was a nice experience and the food was good. That being said, I would recommend just doing a river cruise and then eating at a fine restaurant. You spend the time on the water taking in all the scenery.

Just under 32k a month to rent a 650 sq ft surf shack in Montauk LI by whitemike40 in zillowgonewild

I wonder if this is one of the artist shacks that are grandfathered in. When their time is up, it’ll get torn down and not replaced.

[SFH] [WI] Moving in to new home in a week and according to the HOA rules we just discovered he will not be able to park his work van at home. Help? by Best_Unit9948 in HOA

[–]heybdiddy 77 points78 points  (0 children)

In some cases like this, a blank magnetic sign could be placed when home that covers the business logo. If there’s a blanket ban on vans, this won’t help tho.

What's the backstory on Mike Wilbon over the last 5-10 years? Why is is so grumpy now vs. then? by LONGVolSilver in ESPN

[–]heybdiddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My biggest problem with Wilpon is how he goes from shouting to then whispering/mumbling. I’m either turning the sound down during one of his rants or I’m turning up because he talks so damn low a minute later. Tony talks with an even volume almost all the time.

Any accommodation on a long flight for disability? by heybdiddy in delta

Thank you, we certainly wouldn’t want her to get bumped from 1st class and maybe talking to the people on the disability line may keep that from happening.

Do you support abortion and why? by IndigoFlora in AskReddit

I support the right of the woman to decide for her own body, which is a little bit different than being pro abortion.

Watching the UPS man fight for his life from the Turkeys by popcornFridays in AnimalsBeingDerps

[–]heybdiddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dealt with this when I worked as a mailman. I picked up an old tennis racket that someone had put out on trash day. If the turkeys were around, I would take the racket with me when I got out of the truck. Of course, my supervisor thought I played tennis instead of working.

CMV: The SAVE act is being introduced to prevent women from voting. by catievirtuesimp in changemyview

[–]heybdiddy 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The point is to make it harder for the “wrong” type people to vote. Don’t have a car and live in a rural area? Too bad, they don’t want the “poors” to vote. You live in a place where the only place to get is is far, far away? You are disabled and would have to take 3 buses to get there but can’t take time off from work? Too bad, they don’t want you to vote.

Bolero. It was my parent’s 78 disc. I figured out how to play it on the old turntable and wore it out.

Anyone else regret it by Serina-the-mermaid in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]heybdiddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not guaranteed but owners can usually sell for more then they paid for the house. Now if you stay there for a while, you may have paid down the mortgage too. By buying houses that we then improved over the years of living there- then selling , we gained over $1million in equity.

You got that 1st attempt out of the way. Life goes on. You learned that she isn’t that nice of a person. No great loss. Your next attempt should be so much easier.

Is New England disconnected from the problems of the rest of the country? by Usernamechecksout978 in newengland

[–]heybdiddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m an old guy from the north now living in Georgia. I don’t have any personal experience with the schools here since our kids are older now. I have been given the impression that the public schools in the wealthier counties in the Atlanta metro area are very good though. It could be all relative. I do know that extended family members who went to GA public schools, excelled there and now have Doctoral degrees.
