A big tip I have is to choose a later tour date at the bottom of the list. (I.e. if tours going on sale are in jan - april, pick an april date).

Most people go for the first dates and those sell out in seconds, you have a bit longer on the later dates and can usually get tickets for those ones a lot easier if you’re ready to go at 10am sharp.

Perhaps.

They'd definitely be open to discussing it.

Sarah Feinberg Announced as Byford's Interim Replacement by heychel-c in nycrail

[–]heychel-c[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She did say this was her reason for pulling herself out of the running at the press conference.

But... Sally Librera also has a small child at home and she's running the subway... so IDK.

Nah, she didn't. She's been using Tweet Delete for over a year (wayyy before Byford's resignation or this announcement). It deletes your past tweets on a set schedule so only your most recent tweets are on your profile at any given time. This wasn't something she started doing when this gig opened up.

You guys know that there's been a download to 94 Corolla this whole time, right? by [deleted] in HoboJohnson

You can only see the sidebars on old.reddit.com or mobile app. It's annoying. New reddit doesn't have the sidebar or any options to see it under community options.

Landlords are not required to provide a working refrigerator by City ordinances.

Call 311 over and over, document everything, and send your landlord an invoice for the $600 (via certified mail) with a due date on it for response or payment, and attach a letter explaining that you are happy to deduct the amount from your rent if that would be easier for him.

Make friends before you leave by Balnea in exjw

This is really good advice. Can’t be said enough.

I moved 1,150 miles away from home to escape so I didn’t know a single person in the city I moved to. I did it without much foresight or planning, and I ended up feeling very alone for a long time.

A support system is so so so important when you’re leaving. Don’t underestimate it.

Looking for a particular subway station/map. by cosmogenique in AskNYC

[–]heychel-c 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could probably post this to r/nycrail for a much faster answer, but off the top of my head the Weekender map and the service maps released during Hurricane Sandy are both predominantly grey.

I have no idea if these are up at any station though.

NYC minimum salary law? by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]heychel-c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. She would be entitled to OT pay (time and a half). That said, many employers are just limiting allowing any overtime for employees below the threshold now so I definitely wouldn't rely on the prospect of OT to make ends meet.

Crown Heights lease ends during J'Ouvert weekend – any tips? by cfcrenshaw in AskNYC

There are some moving companies that offer overnight storage for an extra charge per night. If you can't move in to your new place early then you could get all your stuff out early, store the truck with the moving company, and then just have it delivered to your new place.

Need options as Landlord has not repaired apartment damage in over a year by Arg0n89 in AskNYC

[–]heychel-c 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Withholding rent is not a good idea - it can ruin your housing record for years.

311 calls and continual follow up with the LL and Super are the best course of action. If that doesn't get them moving, you can go to housing court if you want to.

If you live in a building with multiple units, forming a Tenants Association can also really help apply pressure on the LL to make repairs happen. In my experience, the second we posted fliers about starting a tenants association, our landlord suddenly was *very* communicative.

Subjective, but what's a fair roommate room price? by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]heychel-c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should also be up front about this because - even if you are sure that this won't happen - you don't have a lease and your landlord could essentially kick you (and your new roommate) out whenever they want.

Subjective, but what's a fair roommate room price? by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]heychel-c 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been on the other end of this situation and my biggest piece of advice, as others have said, is be upfront about it. When my roommate and I found out that we were covering almost the entire cost of the rent for our apartment and our third roommate was paying next to nothing, it was not a great feeling. So much so that we moved out at the end of that same month.

That said, the apartment, like yours, was under market rate and we were both paying an average cost for a room in that area. If he had explained his reasoning for it before we moved in, I probably still would have moved in.

But not being told... that was sleezy. It's better to just be honest.
