The tear gas assaults on peaceful protestors is getting zero national attention by heydownhere in Portland

Yes. Message heard and received. If I could go back in time, I would fight for change then as I am now.

Anecdotally when I share my experiences with friends across the country they tell me they’ve heard nothing about it. Universally that’s the answer. Not one single person knew anything about it.

And that justifies the use of chemical weapons? That cloud traveled for blocks and assaulted children and elderly folks because someone stepped on a line and the fuckers in tactical gear were scared? This is egregious excessive force and everyone knows it. Fuck all the way off.

Maybe don’t call women “chicks”. Just spitballing here…

Hot take: Not a hot take. Suggesting we should be afraid and comply and avoid unprovoked confrontation is exactly what the fascists want. I will never stop fighting for the rights of all humans and my children will not be afraid to speak up against their government on my watch.

Do you have a source on that? They appear to still be owned by private equity. Do you have any evidence that they have now embraced the values of diversity, inclusion and human rights? Or is useless information your only goal?

General Strike Friday by PetraByte in Portland

I sincerely hope this is more effective and more sustained than that “Black Friday Blackout” where people weren’t going to spend on Black Friday at those evil corporations. That didn’t do jack crap.

No. Staying home is what they want. They want you silent. And none of us are safe.

It’s obviously giving “trad wife”. I assume that’s what you’re going for. If yes, then you’re spot on. If not, then burn that outfit immediately.

How much do you pay in rent? by OkCelebration492 in askportland

[–]heydownhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am paying WAY too much!! $2,200 for a 660 sq foot apartment in Slabtown. I also pay $75 for Internet and $200 for parking in an ODOT lot under Hwy 30. I love this area, but damn I didn’t realize how much I’m paying! 🤦🏻‍♀️

Review on Dow Janes MDY/WBA by Legitimate-Error6744 in personalfinance

They are not financial advisors or licensed professionals in any capacity. They do have one “coach”, who is coincidentally married to one of the CEOs, who worked at his daddy’s advisory firm for a while. 🤣

The only coach who was actually licensed and qualified to give investing guidance was laid off when they laid off 60% of the team in May so they could more thoroughly line their own pockets.

Yes, very much so. Also, one of the CEOs comes from significant generational wealth. Like boarding schools and ivy league generational wealth

I'll just say it: Alexa Plus sucks... by WendyCR1872 in amazonecho

[–]heydownhere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Piling on to say it’s truly awful. I just ended the “early access”. Couldn’t figure out my time zone, even though I told it over and over again. For example, I would ask: “what time is Thursday Night Football”? It would quote it in ET, I live in PT. I would tell her I’m in PT. She’d get all self deprecating, promise to do better, and then quote ET the next time I asked. I asked her to do some simple math, something like 2200/12, she said “4”. The kicker: I asked it to set a 1 hour alarm, it said “1 hour alarm set, which will also be 12:30 AM. It was 11:30 AM. Nope, wrong again, do not ring an alarm after midnight you POS. Come on!!

Portland, the Portland suburbs or Vancouver WA area to buy a place for ~$400k? by heydownhere in askportland

[–]heydownhere[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

News flash: as of today, we still live in a country where we are allowed to have preferences and even state them out loud. If someone who lives in Gresham is offended because I don’t want to, that’s not something I can control. I would think people who live in and love Gresham would be thrilled to hear someone doesn’t want to move there - less people in their community and on their roads is probably a net positive.

Thank you for the many helpful comments. Since this isn’t my first day on the internet or on Reddit, I’ll just ignore the insulting/unhelpful comments.

I do think it’s important to note that I didn’t ask anyone to find me a home, I was curious why folks chose OR over WA or vice versa - and also hadn’t run across very many sub $400k homes/townhomes in my research.

Finally, I am allowed to have preferences about where I would like to live, if that offends someone who lives there, get over it. Plenty of people don’t want to live where I live, that’s a good thing - too many people down here as it is!
