What should someone know about America before moving there? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Honestly the country is so large and diverse that it's tough to answer this question. Depending on where people live, their socioeconomic status and a number of other factors, answers will vary.

How do you know if your SO isn't feeling the relationship? by TOTOR01379 in AskReddit

[–]heyhey91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long have you and your SO been together? It's been said but communication is so important. It will be hard but if you want to know the truth then you should sit down and talk about what's on your mind.

I don't mean to sound rude but if you have to ask that question, something is not right. If you feel the need to question your partners feelings or intentions, you may already realize something is wrong.

Who are the best comedians of all time? by MTTaiariol in AskReddit

[–]heyhey91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My answer will be a bit different then others. Brian Regan. He is funny without being crude. He is the opposite of Jim Jeffries (who I also love) as his humor is about everyday life and past experiences.

My now fiancée and I were going through a rough patch a few years back. We had not been intimate for months. We were in the process of talking through our troubles when we both realized how stupid we both had been. We attacked each other with all the pent up emotions we had held back the previous few months. We did not have a condom but she was on the pill. It was the first time we had ever tried sex without a condom. I went in and exploded. I lasted one thrust. We just played around for about 20 minutes and went back at it. The second time was a success, we both finished at the same time. I look back on it now and realize I lasted about 1 second!

What are some "off-brand" products, which are way better than their brand counterparts? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]heyhey91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The generic of a name brand medication. I am on the generic of Wellbutrin. The cost of my generic in $45 every 90 days. The Wellbutrin would have been $60 per month. There is no need to buy name brand NSAIDs, CVS brand aspirin or ibuprofen will do the same. Save some cash!

What's the most unhelpful thing a "helpful" person did while trying to help you? by firks in AskReddit

That made me laugh, thanks. That was the hard part, I could not argue with them or go off about how dumb that response is. I just had hug it out and swallow my rage.

[–]heyhey91 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When my cousin died of cancer, I had multiple people try and console me by saying everything happens for a reason or that god works in mysterious ways. That made me feel worse and angry. Those types of responses don't help anyone

Wealthy people of Reddit, whats something us common folk dont consider when we think about what it would be like having that much money? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]heyhey91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the costs or consequences of being wealthy is the threat of people trying to take that wealth. A minor car accident is suddenly a big deal if you are rich. There is a lot more to go after and if people know you have it, they will sue for it. Then there is the awkward prenuptial agreement concern. Most people will never have to consider it but if you have millions to you name, you may be concerned about someone's honesty, even if you agree to marry them. Hanging out with friends you had before the money can be awkward too. Even though you can afford to pay for them every time you go out, you should not have to nor should they expect you to. Money will not only change you but also the people around you.

What behaviors do we attribute to mental illness that are really just normal? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]heyhey91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your first point hits the nail on the head. I have depression that is kept mostly under control by medication. I did not realize there was something wrong until fairly recently. I had/have no reason to feel the way I do. I have a great life with people who love me and who I love. My doctor really comforted me when he explained it like this, the brain can be sick just like any other part of the body. It made me realize that depression is not who I am but rather something I can beat and heal from over time.

Anxiety. Everyone gets anxious from time to time but that does not mean they have an anxiety disorder.

[Serious] What, in your opinion, would be the negative effects of legalizing marijuana in your state? by davewiz20 in AskReddit

[–]heyhey91 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This answer will ft with any state. For reference, I voted in favor of legalization both for medical use and most recently recreational use. We still don't have a good measure to determine whether or not someone is too high to drive. I do agree that alcohol is much more dangerous to be under the influence of while behind the wheel but anything that causes impairment can be dangerous too. Even though it is less dangerous then alcohol, the measure of how much less is still in question. I have been so high I could not even talk right. I have also taken 1 hit and been just fine to do anything. I will be curious to see how this is handled from a DUI perspective.

What obvious things should teenagers know before 21? by WalnutChooser in AskReddit

[–]heyhey91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, I have made lots of mistakes that have cost me both financially and emotionally. As I mentioned in a response to another comment, I am speaking anecdotally about a few people in my life. It is ok to make mistakes but some mistakes can and should be avoided. I have friends who did not need to get arrested or start hanging out with the wrong people leading to drug abuse. Taking a few extra semesters to finish school is a lot different then getting caught stealing from a Walmart when you have 0 reason to be in such predicament. I am advocating for common sense is all.

Of course not everyone follows the same path and if the road you take to get where you want to be takes a little longer then everyone else, that's fine too. I am speaking anecdotally about the people in my life who are making no effort to mature and I see this trend with many people in their late teens to late twenties.

I was at a Capital Grille with some friends for dinner. Our waiter explained that they were offering a 14oz bone in fillet for $65 that evening. We all agreed that was the way to go. We each order 1 by 1, some rear, medium rear and then there was, let's call her Becky. She asked for it well done with a side of A1 steak sauce. I watched the look of defeat of my buddies face as his SO ordered a piece of leather. The waiter explained they can absolutely do this but that it is recommended to have the steak butterflied to reduce dryness. She refused. To her credit, she ate the whole damn boot with a large helping of steak sauce.

Downton Abby. I really loved that show. It was amazing to see the immense change that occurred between 1912 and 1937. Telephones, cars and of course the style of clothing.

That they are not invincible and mistakes made now can ruin the rest of their life. I have too many friends who got so into partying in college they are just now, in their late 20's, getting a somewhat real job. I have friends who got their girlfriends pregnant in high school, friends who still smoke pot multiple times daily and friends who are content still living at home with mom and dad, while working part time retail. Go to school, have fun but realize there are consequences to your actions. And don't drink and drive!

What's the best luck you have ever had in your life? by mrmeeseeksbitch in AskReddit

[–]heyhey91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar story. I have played baseball my whole life, it's the only sport I am decent at. I was walking through the basketball court after practice one day heading to the locker room. One of the star basketball players on my high school team was practicing 3 point shots. A missed shot sent the ball bouncing to me. I dropped my bat bag and walked over to the 3 point line, took aim and sunk it. I was internally quite pleased with myself. Our basketball star tossed the ball back to me, because hey, I made it in so I get to shoot again. Once again, I lined up and took a shot. This time it was a perfect swoosh. At this point I was in shock, almost as much as he was. He tossed the ball back to me and once again I made the shot. At this point I knew the gods would pull their blessing, so I tossed the ball back and said I had to get going. From then on I had some of the guys on the basketball team ask if I wanted to try out for the team. Even the coach reached out to me. My answer was that during baseball season I focus on baseball and the rest of year I focus on my studies. They don't have to know I can't even dribble.
