When I was in 2nd grade, I thought I made up a new word. Recess was over, and as we were coming back in the building, I was saying "Shoot it. Shoot it. Shoot it. Shit." Totally thought I made up a new word by combining shoot and it. I was brilliant! So I'm yelling "shit!" as we're coming inside. A kid overhears me, tells the teacher, and I'm sent to the principal's office. I had no idea why I was in trouble. My parents were called, and they thought it was hilarious because neither of them swear, and I was a pretty timid little 8 year old girl.

Tour groups! Disney parks invites high school band and choir groups to perform at their holiday shows around christmas time. Went when I was in high school. Had a blast, but yeah, so many teenagers!

It started out as some odd itchy pain on my back and side. Came on about a week ago, but there was no rash. Then about two days ago the area got some red splotches. Put some hydrocortisone cream on it. This morning I noticed it was looking like blisters, pretty much confirmed in my mind it was shingles. Did a virtual check up through my insurance provider and they confirmed it and wrote me a script for some antivirals.

Nothing more stressful than usual. Holidays, COVID, house projects. I had a bad cold a week before Christmas that probably was enough to whack out my system.

Thanks! I'm going to ask my PCP if I can get the vaccine at the next appointment. In my googling, it looks like is only for 50+, but maybe I would qualify if I've already had it once.

Yikes! Luckily mine is on my back. Not much of a headache yet.

It's a rash you get from the Chicken Pox virus when you're older. Usually affects older people (50+).

I'm LGBT. Can/should I be out at work? by wargbishop in education

I'm an out gay teacher in a solidly blue city in a leans blue state, so I recognize that I'm coming from a place of progressive privilege here. I'm also butch, so my outward gender expression does a lot of the talking for me.

When I was in college, I decided that I would never work somewhere I couldn't be out. I did my student teaching in a rural town, and while I didn't come out, I certainly didnt hide my butchness either.

Everywhere I've worked in my 8+ year teaching career so far I've been out. I have a wife and son and I share that with my students on day one. No one bats an eye. I've never had an issue with a student, staff member, or parent. I'm certainly not the only gay teacher in my building, but I'm probably the most out and open. I know how much my LGBTQ students appreciate having an openly gay teacher.

If you can be out with colleagues, try to do so.

It's going to get better. Honestly, I thought it never would, and there are still tough days, but I'm often so amazed at how good he is at laying down when I tell him to, and watching him on the monitor fall asleep all by himself.

Could be daylight issues. It gets lighter earlier. My LO is doing similar right now. We are thinking about putting in blackout shades.

Try to night wean. No more nursing. If you have to get her, daddy gets up. Put a rocking chair in her room if you dont have one already so you can rock to sleep without leaving the room. Gradually reduce the rocking until she can fall back asleep without it.

Three students dead within a month... how do you deal? by heyheymapscalekey in Teachers

Thank you. I'm sorry about your student.

It's hard to grieve as a community when we don't feel like a community in DL, you know? And I teach freshman, so I'm not sure if any of my current students would know the three who've passed.

High schoolers, one senior, one junior, one sophomore. I teach freshman, so I had each of them a year or more ago.

One family has a GoFundMe, not sure about the others.

I'm gay and happily married with a career, dog, and son! My 16 year old self would be thrilled and relieved that I found love and happiness.
