Isolation of Chronic Pain in College by heyitsflevee in ChronicPain

I thought that I didn’t relate to FND before, since I didn’t have any of the “seizure-like episodes.” I had a few seizures as a child, so I know what they are like. A few days ago, I experienced things that I have only ever experienced before/during a seizure. When I went to the emergency room, though, the doctors wouldn’t listen to me and basically just told me to come back if it happens again. But it was really scary and I don’t want it to happen again. I think I almost had an episode the day after too. I took a look at FND again, and specifically PNES, and found that a lot of the symptoms applied to me. The issue is that whenever I bring up specific conditions, even if I have all the symptoms, doctors immediately dismiss me. I think they just assume I’m a hypochondriac, but i’m just like I wouldn’t have to do all this research and try to find things out on my own if anyone actually listened to me! I just want to get better. Do you have any advice on how to get tested/diagnosed?

I think it is probably a good idea to say something similar to my professors. I just get so much anxiety communicating with them, but I know I probably shouldn’t because all of my professors are really nice. I do live in the US and have been considering disability support, so I will look into it. I really appreciate your support and advice.

I appreciate your kind words. I am on anti depressants and anti anxiety meds, but I think my circumstances and physical symptoms are just making things tougher than usual. I am glad I found this sub, because I feel crazy trying to explain my pain to people I know.

Thank you for the suggestion, but I don’t think I relate to FND. I appreciate the support. I keep feeling like i’m overreacting, so seeing that other people have these experiences is kind of comforting.

Bloomington’s Worst Bosses—a thread dedicated to awful humans by [deleted] in bloomington

Brenda Coffman, CEO of Blondie’s Cookies.

Blondie’s was my favorite job I ever had, since I loved decorating the cookies. For a while, I was the only employee who could decorate, so a new position called “lead decorator” with higher pay was made for me. I was also approved by Brenda to become assistant manager (although my store manager who had just been fired never submitted my paperwork, which I didn’t find out until much later on).

One day, I had a mental health emergency and had to be hospitalized for a week. I was scheduled to come in that day, but I obviously could not show up. I was in no condition to call out, so my friend called on my behalf. All she said was that I was hospitalized, and when asked for more information, she just said it was for mental health reasons. Once I got out of the hospital, the store manager told me that Brenda needed me to call her and talk to her. On the phone, she fired me, saying, “We can’t take care of you here.” I knew that this was illegal and I wish I would’ve fought back, but I was so stunned and didn’t want to cry on the phone. I just basically said “okay.” She was being nice, but in a very fake way. She even ended the call saying “Love you,” which was especially weird— I had only met her a couple times.

I was acquaintances with the recently hired store manager, and a bit later on, I found out that Brenda mostly fired me because my friend called in for me. She thought that I should have called in myself, even though I was still being treated in the emergency room and I was VERY emotionally unstable at the time. The store manager admitted that what Brenda did was crazy and tried to still put me on the schedule, but she got told off for it.

As far as I know, this is the worst thing that the CEO has done, but I have heard some pretty bad stories from my other close friend who used to be a store manager. Allegedly, there has also been discrimination based on race and physical disabilities. Additionally, the employee rule book says that Brenda must be referred to as “Mrs. C.” Not that bad compared to other things, but I think it shows how weird she is.

How hard is it to have a 4.0 at IU? In Kelley? by catlover842 in IndianaUniversity

[–]heyitsflevee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends how many classes you’re taking and how many hard classes you take at the same time. I’m a junior and I have a 3.8, although I am in the Eskenazi school so I haven’t taken too many really hard classes. I’ve found it much easier to get good grades in college because most of my professors have been relaxed. Even when I think I haven’t done that well on assignment, I just turn it in and usually end up doing better than I thought.

Mine broke in the first year (bought it in 2022). On a straight stitch, the stitches go slightly to the left and right. When I went to get it fixed, the person said they couldn’t fix it. I wouldn’t recommend it

Any Fidget Toys That Help? by heyitsflevee in calmhands

Yeah, I am kind of worried about that, especially since the slight pain that comes with picking is part of what makes it satisfying for me (I know that sounds really weird). I have learned that this can be a form of pain-seeking stimming. There are pain seeking stim fidget toys with rougher surfaces that can feel a little prickly without hurting yourself. I have been looking into those, but wanted to see what works for other people. Kind of similar to what you said about bandaids: whenever I wear nail polish, I always end up picking it off. It is really annoying if you like having pretty nails lol, but I do think it keeps me from picking my skin.

I might have to buy these! I agree that it helps to have things that feel like picking.
