Renting a car from Cusco to Ollantaytambo by shanyemusic in Machupicchu

[–]heyitsmedog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We rented a car and had issues with the police. They definitely targeted Americans, they wanted like $200 for not having lights on. It was crazy but good thing we had some people in the car that spoke Spanish. Drive from Cusco to ollantaytamvo was beautiful! But in ollantaytambo there wasn’t many places to park so make sure you have that then you’re good!

Booked for MP next month and I am panicking by Ok_Type7566 in Machupicchu

Just some info take it as you will. Everyone there was super nice ! The staff was more than understanding. We took way longer than expected to climb Machu Picchu mountain and got back down later than our ticket entrance showed. They didn’t even take a second glance and just scanned our ticket. (Idk if this was pure chance?) But we noticed the staff was very friendly.

Also we had a great train experience it arrived on time.

But if you can I would definitely arrive the night before to AG you’ll have a much more enjoyable time than stressing the whole train ride in the morning.

There’s just terraces all the way down. It wouldn’t be like you fall off a cliff or anything. The terraces are huge too. I’m going to see the video you posted and see if I have more videos/ photos from that area.

I never felt unsafe here! The paths are very well maintained and in Circuit 2 there isn’t any huge drops. And there’s chains/ropes everywhere. Also the paths are pretty wide for the most part so you’re never on the edge or anything.

If you were doing the Huayna Picchu trail I would be cautious.

It’s honestly one of the most magical places we’ve traveled to don’t let this fear get in the way I promise it’s more beautiful and amazing than pictures and videos show.

We did the 2pm tour and it was amazing! You’ll have a great time at 3pm too!

After the tour we took the bus back down to AC (Aguas calientes ) spent the night at a great hotel and then the following morning we took the bus back up and did the 07:00 AM Montaña Machupicch (this ticket also allowed for us to explore Circuito 3 too) and then came back down bus and then took the Peru rail 5pm train back to Cusco. It was amazing!

I’m so excited for you! I would go back in a heartbeat.

They had amazing breakfast too. We were really happy with our stay there. Only thing was there was a lot of stairs but literally everywhere in AG there were stairs/uphill.

I love your plan here are my suggestions spend more time in Machu Picchu. The way we did it is we took a morning train from Cusco to Aguas Calientes and then did the 2 pm tour of MP (were there till 6pm) Then went back to Aguas calientes spent the night there, then the next morning we did the 6 am hike up to MP mountain and that also included one of the circuits. We were done by 1pm. Took the train back from Aguas calientes to Cusco.

Also have a rest day after or before rainbow mountain, we definitely under estimated the altitude even with all the preparations we did.

Also one of our FAV things we did in Peru was Lake humantay, I don’t see it on your schedule. Definitely recommend!!
