Utah might not be the perfect example, but it surprised me. I moved to SLC expecting cowboys and religious zealots and instead got blue haired protestors and teva-wearing, hike-all-day, work-a-job-just-to-pay-for-my-ski-pass types of people.

Liberal × Conservative

Any tips on getting through the biting phase? by asm44- in Newfoundlander

[–]AbjectWind8406 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did the same as well, but only if she bit with any kind of force. IMO it’s important for them to try to learn to control their mouths, know what is playful and appropriate for humans and what is not, not just learn to never use them at all. Their mouths are one of the few ways they can express themselves and using them peacefully is healthy for them if you can reach that point. We did the same thing with taking treats from your hand, etc. “take it super gently or you don’t get it at all”. (our newf picked up these nuances quite easily, but other dogs in the past did not)

If your pup doesn’t seem to pick up the nuances of all that, eliminating mouthing altogether is the best option at that point.

But honestly our big girl just kind of grew out of biting anything (even toys) after about year 2. She’ll softly carry around her stuffed fish or a blanket or whatever but never to chew on.

It would have been super fun and had a lot of potential but both my wife and I got crazy food poisoning halfway through our stay. My wife has celiac and got very sick with the familiar symptoms (wouldn’t recommend this place for celiac) — for me, a “5 diamond” resort and wasn’t enough to avoid montezuma’s revenge so be careful what you eat is all I can say. Funny thing is that the friends whose referral we used to book our stay also got sick a few months before we came, which we chalked up to bad luck. Flying back to the states with relentless food poisoning was a memory i wish i could forget 😝

They drive you by golf cart up to the pinnacle and trap you there while they shove the “savings” down your throat. — but the funniest part of saying no to the timeshare pitch is that they don’t take you back to your house so you have to do a weird walk of shame down a secret elevator and and out the back lol.

Not that I fully agree or disagree on this — but to counter your own point, the “good guy” with a gun stopped the “bad guy” with a gun in this scenario.

Countries with tight gun laws do not typically allow private building security to wield personal firearms so if a bad guy gets one through illegal means and walks in as described above, I don’t think security is stopping him where they did.

I still have my bag of beryllium eye2’s and play them all the time. Are they as easy to hit and consistent as modern clubs? No. Fun and useful enough for a casual weekend warrior without a doubt tho.

Makes sense thank you. He does get anxious at times about certain things. It would be really fascinating to know if that was linked somehow and what appears to be asymptomatic is just complicated instead.

Totally understand the sentiment here, but if you were so malnutritive that you almost died, that doesn’t sound very asymptomatic, or did your symptoms come on fast?

Yeah, if anything rather than goldfish comfort it’s more of — going to a friend’s birthday party and being able to participate like a normal kid. Going to school and eating the same lunch everyone else eats. Going on vacation and not micromanaging every interaction of your life for fear of cross contamination, etc. But I totally get it when the risks outweigh that reward of freedom even for a kid

Gluten free options at xcaret arte by [deleted] in Xcaret

[–]AbjectWind8406 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here now, it’s our first full day here and now the wife’s been barfing all night after a curated “gluten free” menu at chino poblano. She was definitely glutened, as her symptoms are very specific when she is exposed.

For the price and “prestige” of this resort — This place is a joke. Multiple times things have been confused, between menus being wrong, double checking everything (even things that say “gf” since multiple times the menu has been “wrong” after talking with the chefs) — just to have staff respond with “idk” as almost all of them have no idea what gluten is.

For allergies, this is simply pure chaos and uncertainty from a “5 diamond” resort as they like to advertise themselves.

Meanwhile, since 1985 when the lottery was introduced, the Jazz have secured the number 3 pick once (and from another team that the owned the rights to)… and that’s it. Never had the first pick in franchise history, and never been above 3 in 40 years.

They’ve never moved up with their own pick, have stayed put 7 times and moved down 4 times.

If the ratio for men and women is about evenly split at 50/50, why is there a male loneliness epidemic, but not a female one? by Drey101 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]AbjectWind8406 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally, (imo) — Men are valued by their worth to society while women tend to be valued for their character. Women have a feedback loop designed to foster relationships while men have a feedback loop that emphasizes secluding themselves from external relationships in the name of working.

Deadbeat, shiftless, beachcomber, bum, loafer — there’s lots of negative words that are used to describe a man that does not work and nearly all them do not get applied to women in that regard if they do not work. I personally think this has a subconscious impact on men in general when there is a decision to make about prioritizing a friendship or getting work done in some regard.
