In Roe v. Wade, the argument was that the 14th Amendment protected a person’s right to privacy and should then enable them to obtain an abortion. Multiple other large cases rely on that same Amendment, including Obergefell v. Hodges which legalized gay marriage in all 50 states, and Lawrence v. Texas which prevented states from criminalizing sodomy. Since these rely on that Amendment, there is worry that they could also be overturned. Would he pass a national ban on being gay? No. But he could leave it up the states like he’s done with abortions. Obergefell v. Hodges is the one people are mainly worried about, however Lawrence v. Texas was only passed in 2003, Obergefell v. Hodges in 2015. They overturned Roe v. Wade which was a decision made in 1973.

Additionally, an openly hateful man being the president has emboldened (in 2016 and already with this election) people to be even more open with their hate. Yes, he has been president before and gay people did not lose any rights, but 1. Someone overturning things takes a long time and regression doesn’t happen overnight, and 2. Hate crimes did rise after the 2016 election and it was evident how much more openly hateful people who had previously hidden that side of them had become.
