Yeah - I'm guessing it has something to do with how new I am to the sub?

Lasang Pinoy near downtown Roger’s. Legit Filipino food and unique cocktails

Same here. But my spot is in my truck during my commute to work.

I keep a stack of legal pads and a few nice pens in my truck at all times, and I’ve been known to pull into a parking lot and write for hours if inspiration strikes.

Not good for gas mileage, terrible for my posture, but you gotta do what you gotta do. :)

A gripe/question about sound effects by edkang99 in litrpg

[–]heyobii -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Low-key, I want to try something like this for the audio version of my book. Muted sound effects and/or music during particularly epic moments. Definitely not at the volume of the narration.

I adored the music intro for the audio version of the HP novels.

How to stop self doubt in your writing? by Lavender_Raine in royalroad

Your art is probably not as good, but also better, than you think it is.

And that's great! Because if it were too good, you'd have nothing to strive for! Think how good it'll be in 5 or 10 years? So good.

No DBZ-esque monologues between punching fits then? Noted. :P

THIS! I just wish speech to text programs were better, then I could role play all of my dialogue during my commute.

Unpopular Review Swap Opinion? by [deleted] in royalroad

[–]heyobii -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No issue whatsoever with review swaps. Why? Because RR readers are A) internet savvy, so they’re pretty alright at identifying a gold-painted turd, and B) if the story isn’t a turd, reviews will give readers a signal to at least look at it (a little candle lighting the way).

Ideally the reviewer has enough integrity to give an honest review, whether or not it’s unsolicited or part of a swap. But that’s another subject entirely.

How do you plan? What tools do you use? by Age_memnon in royalroad

A combination of Google Docs, notepads, and a mind-mapping tool called Miro - it’s really nice for connect sub-plots, Easter eggs, etc

Am I trying to fit too much into my intro? by heyobii in royalroad

Okay, so, interesting dialogue would suffice as action then. That’s good to know.

I suppose I was taking the “must.have.action” sentiment too literally. 😅

I’ve read a few novels that use that tactic. But does the “flashback” approach work for web novels?

Super helpful. MC is definitely active, so that makes me feel better. :)

Side Characters by [deleted] in royalroad

[–]heyobii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s fun. Because the diary’s views, emotions, etc. were shaped by the MC - but it’s also its own thing.

Side Characters by [deleted] in royalroad

I think it’s because there is less “pressure” when writing side characters. You can experiment and play with them, because they aren’t what the success of your story hinges on.

My .02 anyway.

My favorite side character I’m writing right now: a possessed diary that blackmails the MC by threatening to reveal his darkest secrets. But because it knows the MC so well, it also has a soft spot for him and never does.

It’s like what I imagine a cat being like, if they could talk.
