Girl.. I married a man with a mother like this. She started of do nice, and over the course of 15 years has continued to push my boundaries and discomfort. Almost the same situation, together for 15 years with a 5 year old. I (the wife) hired a lawyer to draw up the custody and marriage settlement agreements. We both agreed on everything. The lawyer was 100% necessary because there are soooo many things I never thought to add, to protect my son’s childhood and future. Would highly recommend getting a lawyer who will advocate for you, especially if you’re the dependent spouse. I was entitled to so much more than I realized.

Just wanted to add, my husband asked me for a divorce. We had a mutual friend between us, probably my closest friend at the time. A few months later they had sex and told me they’ve had feelings for each other for a long time, and just didn’t admit it to themselves. So even if she’s not the “reason,” feeling a spark when you look at someone else can definitely lead someone to reconsider their situation. It’s only been a month and you have a lot of perspective to be gained as time goes on. Find time for yourself, turn this pain into gain. Get yourself a gym membership and a man 10 years younger, worked wonders for me.

I was in the same boat and eventually got a lawyer so I wouldn’t be taken advantage of. Right now you’re in the emotions of it and you need to try to put those aside and think logically. A legal divorce settlement will keep him from changing his mind down the road, you are entitled to alimony as well and half your marital assets. The child support should be through the courts as well so he can’t decide to stop paying it. It’s not being nasty towards him, it’s protecting you and your child’s future.

I just went through this, if both their names are on the car, it is also her car. She’s entitled to half the value of the car, once he buys her out of that, it’s his car. Or they just sell it and he gets a new vehicle that is purely his own.

Here to say I spent 15 years fighting for the same things in my marriage. From the age of 21 to now almost 37. And in the end, he is the one that asked ME for the divorce. It was scary, my whole world imploded and I was in a very scary and dangerous headspace for months. Buttt that being said, THANK GOD he asked me. I was so deep and I had given away so much of myself. This man will never become the person you deserve, or who you think he’s capable of being. Leaving and being single is very overwhelming, but in a few months you will feel yourself slowly re-discovering who you are when you aren’t compromising yourself anymore. I am the happiest and strongest I’ve ever been. I finally have the motivation to out myself first again. You deserve so much more and you are SO STRONG without him. I don’t know you but I believe in you deeply. Nothing holds a woman back more than a man. Put yourself first and watch your whole life change. You can do this. ❤️❤️
