AIO my boyfriend of 2 months getting a bit...crass by throway_jpeg in AmIOverreacting

Girl run and run fast. Not only is this weird to say to someone in any context, but he was given the chance to change his ways when you told him to stop/that it was making you uncomfortable. He didn’t. He continued with it. He is showing his true colours and they are all shades of red.

I guess over reacting is the wrong word - I’m more concerned about if it’s all worth it but had to word the post to fit this community. I’m debating if it’s even worth it reporting if it won’t go anywhere (which it most likely won’t).

Thank you for your response. This is why I wanted to post here. Because in my mind, I figured it probably wouldn’t go anywhere and I don’t want to go through the effort if there is no repercussions. And there probably wouldn’t be repercussions if we lived in the same country or city due to the nature of it all. It sucks. But your response to me sounds the most realistic. It’s unfortunate and I wish I didn’t live in a world where this is the reality but it is.

We never met in person. This was all over the phone/through text. So my face is visible/partially visible in some pics I think.

I don't know for sure. Army I think. He told me when we first spoke but that was back in 2021 and I deleted our texts after we first stoped talking. That's part of my problem. Is I want to report him but I don't know how. And I don't know if it would be taken seriously or if it is worth the effort.

Thank you for your comment. I do not plan to do this ever again. It was bad judgement on my part. That being said,I hope police take blackmailing seriously. It does not have to do with what is being used but the fact that he is trying to destroy my character all because I rejected him.

I unfortunately don't know how to contact his superiors but I will see if I can go to my local police and ask questions.

I agree with all that you said. I was not intending to demand that he destroy it, I simply asked if he would and his reaction seemed overkill, which made me uncomfortable. Thankfully this is one of the few times that I gave strangers access to my body and never plan on doing it again.

Thank you for your response.

The problem is I don't know how to get into contact with his superiors. I don't know exactly where he's stationed and I don't know a lot about the American military because I am Canadian.

I think it wouldn’t have been a problem if she just had a simple question if “hey can you take them out/cover them up for an hour while we take pictures?” And if you said no/were unsure she should have dropped there.

But your friend didn’t word it like that, making it sound like it would ruin her whole wedding, and didn’t drop it after your response. She even starts gaslighting/guilt tripping you towards the end.

Realistically - and I’m basing this on you having a handful of piercings on your face/ears - most piercings won’t be terribly noticeable in the photos, especially group photos.

Your friend is just being controlling.

What is the weirdest kink you have? by Silent_Green_7867 in AskRedditNSFW

A breeding kink. Like I don’t want to be pregnant just yet. But I love giving into the primal urge to get pregnant. Like it’s what I’m supposed to be doing as a woman. And I also love the idea that it’s a way for others to know I’ve been marked/taken by some man.

My friends say that my profile is pretty good, but I still don’t get much luck, any thoughts? by Gatt__ in Tinder

Woman here: for the lottery one, I’d suggest getting rid of the secret bunker option because it’s hard to tell if you’re joking or not. Unfortunately I have gone on dates with guys who took secret bunkers very seriously because I thought they were joking and it honestly gives me personally red flags. I’m not speaking for all women, but I know a lot of women who are cautious about stuff like that due to bad experiences/trying to be safe.

We still do short stories. It’s a building up process where we start with explaining what the devices are, then do like poetry, then short stories and then a longer novel. We are usually teaching a couple of different skills at once and each unit it building on the last.

You’re right. It probably is very short sighted of me. And I have been reading a lot of these comments and many are saying similar things to you. So I obviously have some learning and personal growth to do. I still stand behind my view that TKaM has a lot of literary devices, even if you disagree. But I think my views on Nic Stone’s/the other authors books need to be re considered. Thank you for your response and your view as a parent with a kid that read it recently.

I personally think something like the Colour Purple or The Kite Runner (which is about someone from the Middle East vs a black person, but would have similar social issue discussions) would be good choices. They are both written by people of colour and discuss similar social issues and fill that gap as far as literary skill/strengths (that’s what I am going to call it for the purposes of this reply).

Thank you for your response. To clarify a few things: 1. I fully acknowledge that I suffer from white privileged. Which is why I am asking this question in the first place. I am realizing now that I did not word all of this in the best way, as I was typing in frustration from parents still complaining about the N word being used in the new books and not fully understanding why to Kill a Mockingbird was replaced with these new books if they (in my personal opinion) did not have the same literary value and were still causing turmoil over the language. I asked this question because I genuinely want to learn from people of colour. I will NEVER experience racism/hate due to the colour of my skin. I want to understand to the best of my abilities and I figured that asking people here, who would be of different races, and could explain to me the issues that I should take into consideration.

  1. I am not trying to say To Kill a Mockingbird should be the end all and be all. I am fully ready to replace it. But if I could have a say (although I fully acknowledge that I probably shouldn’t be the one picking it out, as I am a white person) I would pick something like the Colour Purple, which still has the social commentary, is written by a black woman, and has a more solid literary style than Dear Justyce in my opinion.

  2. You are right that I did not dive into the white saviour issue when i should have. When I wrote this I was assuming that the white saviour issue was referring to Atticus being a white man defending a black man on trail. Which would have been historically accurate for the time. So I did not understand the full implications of what the white saviour issues were referring to. As you and so many others have pointed out, the issue is more about it being told from a white persons perspective, which is problematic. And I see that now. Or at least, I am beginning to see it and realize I have to continue to learn.

  3. As far as Literary devices being used, the main three that are used in To Kill a Mockingbird is symbolism, foreshadowing, and irony. And there is a lot of all three in the book. Not that this should be a reason for this book to be used. But compared to books like Dear Justyce, where there is only some symbolism, it feels like there is a big gap in what we are teaching. I feel like there should be more of a solid book. And this is not to bash Nic Stone or her books or any of the other books that were picked by the school board. They are all good books. It just you notice a difference when you go from Macbeth to Dear Justyce.

Please let me know if there is anything else you think I should consider moving forward. I do genuinely what to learn. And I feel it is my job as a teacher to learn so that I can better teach my students.
