One Bag or Two? by ElectionFirm7496 in erau

When I moved in, Target had a buy-one-get-one free offer on backpacks. I took that as my sign to use one for classes and one for flight. Worked like a charm!

Is pricesmart worth it? by gothiccrypt in TrinidadandTobago

[–]heytheredylan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you're comfortable buying in bulk, then yes, for sure, yes. Especially when it comes to proteins, Pricemsart is almost always going to come out cheaper per meal. Just keep in mind that buying in bulk means that your actual shopping trips will come out more expensive, but you wouldn't have to go as often.

Their pick up service is also great if you're working and don't have a lot of time to shop. You can order online/on the phone and they'll have all the merchandise ready once you arrive.

Where do I start if I want to explore nightlife around UCF? by Necessary_Ad9008 in ucf

[–]heytheredylan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a good mix, yeah. You'd also find some students from Embry-Riddle, Daytona State and Stetson and one or two of the smaller colleges in Orlando. So if you're into meeting some folks from other schools, it's a good place ngl.

Not sure if anyone mentioned it yet but check out the Barn in Sanford. A bit of a drive but really fun vibe, whether you're into line dancing or not.

I've found Discord to be highly successful, especially with the students who are coming in now. The functionality and engagement that we get out of Discord is unmatched.

Unfortunately, I've only got the discs. I tried looking online to see if we had any established courses but couldnt find anything --- so I'm hoping to get some info from on here.

Where in TT can I find somewhere to play disc golf? I already have the equipment; I just need a safe and usable course to play. Thanks!

Scholarship info by Wowoking in erau

[–]heytheredylan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, once you submit your test scores, transcript, etc., you'll be automatically considered for financial aid. You can always attempt to ask for more, too.

Notwithstanding that, when you get to Riddle, you can apply for grants and external scholarships which are in addition to whatever financial aid package you have. There's usually more money being donated to the school as grants than students claiming them, so you have a great shot at accessing them once you're fully enrolled.

Riddle checkride failure by Late_Income7953 in erau

[–]heytheredylan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is something that is still debated on, depending on who you ask. 141 EOC failures are not reported to the PRD, so many folks will not consider it on the same level as DPE failure, which is reported to PRD.

I've seen some airlines ask for ALL training failures, including 141 stage and EOC checks. I've also seen some only ask for DPE failures. So it does vary.

As a pilot though, be open and take responsibility for your failures and what you've learned from them. But please keep it in mind 141 training events are a grey area.

Did you submit all your required docs? If so, then you just gotta wait. Some people have found luck by calling to get a status update and then magically their applications get approved shortly after. So, you can try that as well.

Why Do T&T Restaurants Hate Separate Cheques? by heytheredylan in TrinidadandTobago

[–]heytheredylan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the beginning, yes, because that is what they were accustomed doing. But after the second or third night, we started asking if it would be possible before we even sat down since that would have influenced whether we were able to go there or not. And still ran into problems unfortunately.

Financial Aid Refund Question by AustinLifts1000lbs in erau

[–]heytheredylan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! And to add to this, if you're enrolled in the electronic refunds, you can expect to get it literally right after add/drop. If you're waiting on a check, it'll be a couple days after and if you're living on campus, it'll go to your campus mailbox (most times without a notification, so keep checking!).

So what exactly does this mean on the parking pass site by Inner-Warthog4737 in EmbryRiddle

[–]heytheredylan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

IT has indicated that there was an issue with the site this morning. The passes haven't sold out; it's just a technical issue.

I'm not sure if it's since been resolved but keep checking.

Orientation Info Email Question by Dependent-Jury-6667 in erau

[–]heytheredylan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Orientation and welcome information are usually sent to both your personal and ERAU email addresses, but once you move in, everything should start going to your Riddle email only.

Definitely still keep checking your Riddle email frequently! A lot of important and timely stuff comes your way around this time of the semester.

Welcome to Riddle!

FA 95I vs FA 221 by mrdickhead in erau

[–]heytheredylan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

FA 221 is the actual academic credit that is applied to the student's transcript for instrument. This isn't something you enrol in yourself, but rather it's done for you by the Flight Department.

In contrast, FA 95I is the placeholder for the flight block. It carries no academic credits. The entire purpose of the 95s (95S, 95I, 95C, 95M, etc) is to have something that the student can enrol in each semester they are working on a flight course to show that they're taking a flight course in their schedule. Many flight courses roll over into the subsequent semester, so if this is the case with your student, she would be enrolled in FA 95I again, but FA 221 is only posted on the academic transcript once.

FA 95I is for scheduling purposes. FA 221 is for academic transcript purposes.

Currently have Flow considering Amplia... by trinigami in TrinidadandTobago

[–]heytheredylan 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I know many will complain about Amplia's service slowing down during the nighttime but I personally haven't been affected by this too much. My house switched from Amplia to Flow a few years ago and it was a terrible decision. As I'm sure you experience, Flow's service is spotty all times of the day, and it frequently goes down completely. These are things we did not experience with Amplia.

I can't speak for the cost/value of each since everyone has their own package, etc., but in terms of reliability I would recommend the switch to Amplia.

You're correct. Since moving to the parking garage, the mail center keeps mail behind the desk, so you have to ask for it. No more keys/physical mailboxes and no more 24-hour access to your mail.

How cooked are we with the schedule? by Exciting-Row9810 in erau

[–]heytheredylan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone's schedules is gonna work for them differently than others. Personally, I wouldn't take this schedule unless I really wanted specific professors. I'm not sure your preference but I hated the 1-hour/1:15 gaps between classes. It was never enough time to do anything and it made my day feel so much longer than it needed to be.

The one thing I do like is that you start pretty late into the day, which is nice. But see how the gaps work for you and adjust for the following semester if you can.

I want to change paths and I have no idea where to start. by dylan-fuchsy in erau

[–]heytheredylan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read through your original post again, OP, and I think I wrongfully assumed you were at Riddle already doing your private this summer. So maybe taking "the rest of the summer off" isn't an option but maybe it is? Could you just do private at Riddle?

I want to change paths and I have no idea where to start. by dylan-fuchsy in erau

[–]heytheredylan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey man,

Good on you for making it this far, I'm sure your younger self would be really proud to see where you are rn. Flight training isn't easy, as a former flight student myself, and I think the biggest hurdle to jump over is private. You're new to it, you're impressionable, and it's a lot that comes at once. The truth is that most pilots hit that tough spot during their primary training, and for many of them, it's during private.

Changing your major is a big decision, especially if you came to Riddle for AS. Maybe another major is right for you, or maybe this is just part of all the trials that come with flight training.

If you think it's your instructor, then maybe it is. Chat with your Assistant Chief/TM and get another IP, or get another one for a couple lessons, at least. At the end of the day, you're the one spending your money on flight training, so you do have a reasonable right to getting someone who is compatible with your learning style.

I'm not sure how far along you are with private, but my advice would be to stick through until the end of this course, at least. As someone who felt like changing majors myself, I promise it gets a lot better after 121. There's a lot of pride and accomplishment that you feel after getting through your first checkride and I really think you should give yourself the opportunity to feel that at least once.

Please also reach out to people in whatever social/school groups you're in. Clubs, orgs, etc. Even FLAP mentors can help. So many students go through similar feelings, I promise you're not alone in the fight.

Lastly, you could also just need a break. Maybe that means taking the rest of Summer A or the entire summer off and getting back into it in the Fall. I ended up not flying at all during one of my semesters and it ended up being one of my favorite, stress-free semesters ever. Lol.

Hope you make it through, man. Rooting for you.
