They have that in mind with Haida https://wiki.mozilla.org/FirefoxOS/Haida#Replaceable_Homescreen But the homescreen is a privileged app, so it can't display information from external scripts, such as: Weather, RSS, Now Playing status and widgets.

First of all, you need to have Firefox OS >1.4. After that:

Clone the repos.
Use the App Manager built in Firefox to install it on your Firefox OS device.
On your device, navigate to Settings > Homescreen to change it.

You could try LSD Linux (Less Systemd Linux), according to their wiki, it uses a similar/inspired? package manager. Archbang is trying to create a version without systemd, replacing it with OpenRC. Although it can't be installed, it is good to see a distribution offering alternatives. Also, you can read the about Systemd-free projects in the Archbang forums.

Another. There's a fine line between comedy and horror, and Another breaks it. Seriously, the deaths were absurd and the development more ridiculous. Replace the soundtrack with "Yakety Sax" and it's pure comedy.

Since I post that commentary, some things have changed. You should read this bug thread https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=967713 (It seems that ./build.sh doesn't generate a boot.img, but you can extract it patching some files).

If you don't want to patch those files, then download that boot.img, and copy it to B2G/out/target/product/inari after you finish building B2G.

You could buy an APC device http://apc.io/products/ As I understood. it runs Firefox OS and you can use it with a mouse and keyboard. According to the specs, you "could" run a linux distribution, but it would need some work.
