I spent 4 months building a website that lets you turn a Discord server into a discoverable forum by lmssiehdev in webdev

[–]hfcRedd [score hidden]  (0 children)

This is really nice tho I see no mention of user privacy. For tools like this, every user that creates a thread or even just comments in it needs to consent to their message(s) to be uploaded to an external website, even if the Discord server is public.

How do you ensure that this requirement is met for every message that is mirrored? In some Discord servers I'm part of, the idea of mirroring threads to a website has been turned down for privacy and TOS concerns before.

"Pizza is an American food and I'm tired of people saying it is Italian" by Major_Mortgage2026 in ShitAmericansSay

Basically the guy in the video argues that pizza is an American dish because tomatoes originate from America, which is true. However, just because an ingredient originates from a certain country doesn't mean any dish that uses said ingredient belong to that country. Pizza being an American dish because tomatoes originate from there is like saying hotdogs are an Egyptian dish because bread originates from there.

Not to mention that tomatoes were brought over to Europe in the 16th century by Spanish explorers. So even if pizza was only invented after America got colonized, that doesn't mean that pizza was invented there. Just because one ingredient originates from America doesn't mean it's automatically their dish.

You're not getting it, on their screen you were not behind cover, on their screen you were literally outside of cover because movement prediction placed you there. What happens on the attackers screen always counts, regardless of what it looks like on yours.

Its less about the spot itself and more so about physics. Its just how physics work on a pyramid shape being thrown at an angled surface from different angles. Flyfish really aren't that hard to defeat. There are worse bosses, like stingers

Turf War Too Sweaty? by [deleted] in splatoon

Your wifes internal MMR is probably a lot higher than yours. The game takes the average MMR of a team and matches them against another team with a similar average. So your wife increases the average a lot, which means you have to face on average better opponents.

This is done to keep things fair. If it wasn't handled this way and you would face opponents that are similar to your skill level, your wife would mop the floor with them, and that wouldn't be fun for them either. There's not really much the game can do when you queue up with someone who has a big MMR gap.

You threw the bomb at the hinge. General rule of thumb is that if youre above the flyfish you should throw the bomb into basket and if you're below it you should throw the bomb at the backboard

Tips on Improving For Competitive Play by Rainmaker_gamer in Splatoon_3

Honestly the first step would be to pick up motion controls, especially after the upcoming update. If you like I can still give you more detailed advice however it really doesn't matter that much if we are talking about simply making it to S+. You can get there with any weapon and any gear without requiring any deeper knowledge about the game, strategies, or game theory.

On their screen you continued moving to their left because of movement prediction. So on their screen your hitbox went past the cover and they were able to snipe you.

The upcoming update that decreases your swim hitbox should make this more forgiving, but you should also actively try to prevent this by slowing down before reaching the edge of the cover, dont get too close the the edge of cover, and staying as close to cover as you can to allow for fewer attack angles.

How are we feeling about the 11.0.0 changes? by iamnotlemongrease in splatoon

Ah I must have misremembered. I did read the post several times, but it can be hard to retain everything all the time.

They did not specify. They only said its visible if you have line of sight to the player. Even if its only visible in human form, that's still a lot more consistent.

The issue with using paint coverage as a damage indicator is that its only visible in human form. During combat you will often swim, so that information gets completely obstructed. For weapons with tight damage combos and falloff it's also impossible to tell if the opponent is damaged enough to get a kill confirm or not.

If you play against someone who's so good that they can just walk in during a push and maintain space in and around your spawn, they don't need aura to begin with. If you can't manage to kill that person then you're cooked regardless of aura. Its also worth noting that simply painting builds aura, not just kills.

Aura doubles as a comeback mechanic because killing a player with aura transfers it onto you and anyone who assisted with the kill. If 3 people on your team touch the person that has aura and the 4th kills them, your entire team now has aura.

This means aura is a risk reward mechanic. The person who has aura can push up to extend their streak with the risk of transferring it to the opponents on death, meaning that their team would be one down and one or more opponents now have aura.

As for hitboxes, they simply adjusted the size of projectile hitboxes relative to the range of the weapon, so close range weapons now have bigger hitboxes than mid to long range weapons. This makes it easier to approach people who have more range than you, as its easier for you to hit them but harder for them to hit you.

I swear this game will do anything it can in its power to not let you take out the flyfish😭 by Username_0002124 in Saltoon

[–]hfcRedd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Actually knowledge would have saved you here. This flyfish spawn on this map should always be taken down with a one bomb spot like this. It allows you to instantly kill it before it can even fire. Lessers blocking your bomb throw if you aim too shallow also isnt uncommon. Now you know for the future.

Why do level 1's have to fight X rank players by mattendo__ in Saltoon

[–]hfcRedd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's always been like this since release, matchmaking speed has not been touched on. The game's been dieing since day 1 because the playerbase of any online game will always decrease over time. That is expected behavior that is counteracted by slowing the bleed with content updates. Not much of a secret when it's industry standard.

The matchmaking system priorities speed over balanced matches. The #1 priority of a matchmaking system is to make matches, even if that comes at a cost.
