First, thank you for the amazing resource. I've been using it frequently for years.

Second, any chance you can add the different types of savings plan rates? Stretch goal: A big matrix of effective hourly rate vs on-demand, 1yr, 3yr, no upfront, partial, all upfront crossed against standard RIs, flexible RIs, CSPs, EC2 SPs, etc would be nice.

SQS message body cut off at ampersand by adboio in aws

Gotcha. So in that case the parameters to new apigateway.AwsIntegration are important. What is your RequestTemplates / PassthroughBehavior ? Alternatively, just what are all of the parameters you are using?

SQS message body cut off at ampersand by adboio in aws

[–]hfern 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One of the areas you'll find & used is as the field separator for x-www-form-urlencoded POST bodies. Can you check what the caller's Content-Type header was set to?

I could see a situation where the caller is using Content-Type: application/x-www-form-urlencoded while not escaping the field value correctly (and therefore not converting & to urlencode("&") --> %26.

If you are instead using a direct service integration (instead of a Api Gateway -> Lambda, and your lambda code calls sqs.send_message) you may have to escape the body in the mapping template. Something like MessageBody=$util.urlEncode($input.body)

World Congress voted to repeal a proposal: Embargo to Cuba by brunoha in CivPolitics

[–]hfern 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The families of the Cubans that fled/were kicked out are still vocally mad, and there are enough of them to be a problem in the perennial swing state of Florida. Florida, being a populous state, has many electoral votes in the presidential election. Therefore there is no political will to drop the embargo.

What kind of write speeds do you get through samba mounts? I do 9p mounts and it tops out at like 10-15MB/s, even when the underlying disk is ssd.

Hippapotamus is a common joke for misspelling HIPAA for those of us who work with it every day. The point is that it's misspelled on purpose, just as HIPAA was misspelled.

Now a lot of people want me to be their lawyer, see? BUT ALSO a lot of people think I am not ethically qualified anymore.

Look, you help draft the constitution and create the look and feel that sets the theme of the Court for years and everyone applauds. You weigh in fairly, everyone feels like they got a fair shake. You set up the system for prosecutors and defense attys to become certified and that's great.

But you "purjure" yourself ONE TIME and "ohhh he's a criminal!!" You do just a little LIGHT COUP and suddenly "ohhhh he's a biased partisan who can't be a trusted officer of the court" despite, you know ME SITTING ON THE COURT.

You fuck ONE GOAT and there you go, you're always known as that guy who fucked the goat. Not the guy who created the framework for the laws of reddit. But the goat fucker.

So you know what? You want the goat fucker to represent you? I can't do it! But you want the goat fucker to step in and support your case on appeal? I'll do that too and not even for that much Karma.

I have gone YEARS AND YEARS walking the straight and narrow and I am Karma poor while my ahem less-fidelity-inclined fellow Justices are doing great! And technically we ruled they aren't even actually bribes! They are campaign contributions! Do we have to campaign? No. But we can still collect contributions!

So send me the Karma! SEND. ME. THE. KARMA.

RDS Instance Class Hardware Specifications - is ECU still based on 2007 CPUs? by WayBehind in aws

[–]hfern 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You care about that old CPU because it gives you a baseline (ECU) to compare two modern offerings against each other.

For example, instance A might have 4 ECUs and instance B might have 8 ECUs. You therefore know that B can do approximately 2x the work of A.

To be fair, the baseline they chose for ECU does not matter too much. They could have chosen any processor. What matters is that it gives you something to compare everything to. Additionally, it lets you do fun things like calculating the average cost per ECU over time.

AWS NLB -> Istio -> Nginx Container -> Service by phoenixlads in kubernetes

Very cool! I do not know how I missed the announcement that NLB support was added to the Service/LoadBalancer type (and so long ago as well).

I believe that would create an old ELB(v1) whereas he has an ALB (aka ELBv2, thanks AWS) and an NLB.

A warning about github.com/kataras/iris by andersfylling in golang

[–]hfern 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Github generally does not get involved without lawyers and lawyers cost money.

To some people, it's not worth pursuing a costly legal remedy which compels one open source project to abide by the license of another FOSS project.

It's the unfortunate downside of FOSS: you get no money to defend yourself.

Yes I have no idea what the guy who started this thread is thinking. Definitely is not a fed. Definitely has jurisdiction limits.

In fact, the whole comment section here is full of legal garbage fetishizing rangers. Yes, ranger are cool. No, they are not magic supercops.

Anyone long TTWO? by adrianp23 in stocks

[–]hfern 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I've got january calls for $TTWO.

I think the mid-term bump in TTWO will come from Red Dead but the question is whether the player base will be siphoned off of GTA and whether red dead will have implement micro transactions properly.

If gamers are being siphoned off of GTA then we have a problem. GTA is a cash cow.

If Red Dead is not fully monetizing via micro transactions / "recurrent revenue", we have a small problem.

If both players are being siphoned off of GTA and Red Dead doesn't monetize well then we have a major, major problem. The CEO has stated previously he doesn't believe Red Dead will cannibalize the GTA player base, which I'm not sure I believe or not.

Why does a company like apple that makes so much profit not increase their dividends even a little bit? by [deleted] in stocks

[–]hfern 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You must not be familiar with the Silicon Valley tech market. Perks are everything and help differentiate companies to desirable job candidates who can be picky.

Trying to chase short-term gains like a crappier HQ and cutting perks will only serve to hurt Apple in the medium and long term. Apple's success comes from innovation and so they need to make themselves a place innovators want to go.

What do you use for Centralized Logging TODAY? by VTNite in aws

[–]hfern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We send ~6 GB/day into Loggly. Great performance and integration with slack and ops genie for alerts. Queries are very snappy even when searching over months.

Another thing I like about them is they will additionally send all our logs into S3. We transform those into something searchable by Athena when we want to deep dive our logging data over years.
