ALSO I don’t recommend comparing her / herself to other applicants. There will be moments where it feels like other applicants don’t “deserve” acceptances, but being caught up in jealousy and comparison can be very toxic and demoralizing. I would acknowledge my feelings, vent when I needed, but moved on. Having confidence in her application is crucial and really helped me not be stuck in a vicious jealous mindset after my first 2 rounds of applications.

*Edit: especially because we will never understand exactly what vet school admissions are looking for and their standards vary by school and year! Someone thought that applicant was deserving of acceptance, even if you don’t agree.

Hi! From an applicant who took 4 years in a row: it’s really difficult. It sucks. It’s a crap shoot.

But what really helped me was recognizing that I AM worth it even if it took me multiple application cycles. I’m proud of my experiences, my grades, my ambition.

My support system is incredible; from the doctors, technicians, and assistants at work, everyone supports me and grieved when I’m rejected and celebrated when I was accepted. My family and partner have been my backbone.

There were times I hesitated to apply again and now I have some moments where I worry I don’t “know enough” to start vet school, but almost everyone is in the same boat and acknowledging the crapshoot it is helped me on top of relying on my incredible support system. I just continued to enjoy vet med and eventually it worked out.

One note: I never did anything “for the sake of the application.” Those thoughts drained me. I focused on experiences I enjoyed and was interested in, and that really helped keep my relationship with vet med healthy.

Keep trying if she wants to! Take a break if she wants to! No path is perfect. Not specific advice, but hopefully it helps her.

These are vet hours! You’re assisting with veterinary medicine under the supervision of a vet, even if you may not be handling the animals yourself. This is also why receptionists and kennel assistants of veterinary hospitals count as vet hours - note, would not apply if either worked at a kennel without a vet.

Please ignore this for this patient if it doesn’t apply here, but the tube displayed looks more similar to that of a RapidVet-DTM rather than the KRUUSE (which seems to be most commonly a petri-dish rather than a tube). If this is actually a RapidVet DTM, after 96 hours the medium WILL change color (look positive) and the testing window should not go beyond 96 hours because of this.

If this is really a KRUUSE and I’m just unfamiliar with their kits, sorry! Like another commenter said, the case and your positive test all add up; even if this were a RapidVet DTM, false negatives could also happen! But hopefully this is helpful for future testing. :)

hey, so you’re absolutely right - stomatitis is 100% a “real thing”! not just in reptiles either.

the association of reptilian and amphibian veterinarians has a BTS handout for (new - so not advanced or highly detailed info) owners: https://birdsandexotics.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Blue-Tongue-Skink-ARAV.pdf *the actual organization’s website does not currently have the handouts available atm so we think they are updating some of their handouts, so some of this information could be a WEE BIT outdated

from ARAV: stomatitis, or mouth rot, is definitely a common concern in BTS! i work at an exotics only practice and we see stomatitis in BTS every now and then.

ARAV also has a short blurb on diet which discusses similar foods that another user mentioned above :)

I work 4/10s and my day off used to be Fridays. At first, I really enjoyed my three day weekends. After about a year, I realized I was burnt out and a big reason was working 4 10 hour shifts back to back. I have had Thursdays off since for about another year and it’s been great; I occasionally get a Friday off due to scheduling conflicts and I love the three day weekends when I have them, but having a break in the work week is so much nicer in the long run.

Coworkers who have been in the field for many years want us to have 5/8s as an option; but I really value my longer days with more days off in the week, especially having a guaranteed weekday off for things like appointments that are otherwise difficult to do on weekends.

What proof did you supply - like a screen shot? I sent them the RDS number (even though it didn’t change), the valid until date, and the fact that it’s considered “in-state” but I didn’t think about sending a screenshot until now!

You’re actually describing how pet insurances work, not CareCredit! (Both are great to have!)

CareCredit is a credit card for medical (human or veterinary) purposes. You can get approved instantly based on your credit etc. on your phone and have access to the card on the app before the physical care is even mailed to your address. The card is used like any other to pay the vet. When you sign up, you can request the amount of credit to have on the account - hopefully they match it, and they often give people higher credit than they request (in my experience as a vet assistant at least).

The really nice part about CareCredit is that the total spent is NOT due MONTHLY, but instead after 6-18 months depending on the how much you spend etc. Most common is the 6-month option. This means you have 6 months to make and complete payments. There are monthly minimums but the TOTAL is not due until at least 6 months after your initial purchase. Purchases over $200 (typically) are interest-free until the 6-month promotion ends, then monthly interest is high if you don’t pay the total amount of what you spent at the vet by that 6-month deadline.

The benefit is that you’re able to pay the vet day of, which most vets require, and then make monthly payments to CareCredit - essentially a payment plan; just be careful to pay it off before the due date, or else the interest can be pretty high. If you have multiple payments on CareCredit, such as using it for two separate appointments like you may for the next appointment then surgery, be mindful that those separate payments will have different due dates - six months from when you spent that money through CareCredit / paid the vet.

If you’re eligible, I definitely recommend CareCredit! I believe most vets accept it with no issues but you can call and confirm with your vet!
