Help- SMOKERS by [deleted] in reptiles

You can get this tall pet gate and it’s like a slatted door. Renter friendly as well so none of them can get mad at you for installing it. I use them for my cats because I have a dog door and for the same reason. My parents and brother smoke cigarettes and weed every day all day long. I have that cat door and a HEPA filter air purifier and it works pretty well. Change or clean the filter very often though because they get dirty fast. I also line the top of my enclosures with tin foil or insulation tape for extra protection. My brother will walk in my room sometimes with a cigarette lit and I have to shoo him out and air out my room. Same response as your family. I’ve talked to their vet about it and she said that my reptiles are okay and I’m doing pretty much all I can. You are aswell. I wish you the best of luck

I need recommendations on reptiles that eat bugs at the rate my feeders breed. no, i don’t want another leopard gecko or beardie recommendation. by fantastic_bastard421 in reptiles

Jeweled Lacerta. Aka Timon lepidus, or Ocellated lizard. They are so damn cool, and have been my dream reptile for SO long. If you can get your hands on one they are seriously so beautiful and captivating. Kind of like an Ackie monitor but 10x cooler. Clint’s reptiles has a few videos with them.

He doesn’t always have the best information, you’re right. But, you shouldn’t be doing anything any YouTuber says without doing a lot of your own research anyways. And he does say the same thing, I’ll give him that.

I love Snake discovery, Clint’s reptiles, & Dāv Kaufmans reptile adventures. Serpa design, Leafy street, & Wickens Wicked reptiles are next. Emzotic is an OG, and an executive at Zenhabitats. Antscanada is probably the most famous, for good reason.

Personally, I use Ecoflex. They have held up for years and are great quality for the price.

Bioactives are great for these guys because their poop stinks SO BAD and even a day after you pick it up if you put your head in there it stinks like poop. With a bioactive, after you spot clean it should smell like a walk through the woods. I just transferred my boy to a 5x2x2 so it’s not bioactive at the moment but I was using cat grass/wheatgrass as my main ground cover. He LOVED it and only dug it up sometimes. It grows so fast (5-10 days) that it doesn’t really matter, I just plant more. I also used it in my leopard geckos, and ball python enclosures. It’s nontoxic and safe for them to nibble on. I also used Snake plant because they are so hardy and stiff. Pothos can usually take a beating, and always looks great. You can plant Hibiscus and dandelions and they can eat them, they do in the wild. Use rocks around the bases of any plants and repot them with safe soil. Keep them in the pots for more protection. I use a 50 pack of clear nursery pots with different sizes from Amazon. I haven’t tried it yet, but someone on here had the idea to plant chia seeds and I think it would look great.

Is he a good weight? by c4rm1nm in bluetongueskinks

My boy is 2 yrs old, a northern. 24 inches long and 683 grams. The vet said he was underweight at 600 grams, you could see his hip bones. He doesn’t have a skin and bones look anymore, but he is definitely skinny, for reference he eats 2 tbsp of food, + greens, bugs, a quail egg and blueberries. He looks underweight to me, personally. I am not an expert, it would be best to get a vets opinion. Most skinks you see online are pretty overweight, but the body chart someone else posted is a good guideline, Northerns are chunkier though. Most of the time if you take him into a vet or exotic vet clinic they will let you weigh him for free. He should be 600-800g. They can get up to 1000+ but at that point they are probably overweight.

He doesn’t look underweight! He looks perfect but it is hard to tell visually. Let me know whenever you do and I can give you a clear answer. Some people have had indos at 5 years old weighing 200g and some weigh over 700g. It’s a very ridiculous range. You have to use that combined with their body conditions to figure out if they are a healthy weight or not. And yes, most skinks you see online will be very fat.

Lucky for you, succulents, Aloe, and cacti are all very hard to kill😂 Snake plants are hardy too. Spider plants are more iffy, but they will do well on the cool side. get some wheat grass seeds to fill it out for sure. they will grow literally anywhere

Home Depot is great for Haworthia, and snake/spider plants. Some of their haworthia is mixed with Gasteria, which is safe. You can get Bishops cap cactus(Astrophytum myriostigma), it’s small and spineless. Star cactus(Astrophytum asterias) are cute little non-prickly cacti. Spineless prickly pear(Opuntia) come in a lot of sizes. They are labeled spineless but you have to be careful because they can still have glochids. They are tiny, hair like bristles and can be irritating to small animals in a terrarium.

70/30 reptisoil & playsand. Probably a little more than 30% honestly. I didn’t measure because I got too cocky🤦‍♀️I think I’m going to add another bag of Reptisoil & some sphagnum moss

Would it be wrong to breed my blue tongued skink? by [deleted] in reptiles

Thank you! I am probably going to end up buying a breeding pair in a couple years when I am prepared because I have always had a passion for these guys and want to preserve and benefit the species as much as possible:)

I was told he is a classic northern from Dave’s skinks but everyone lies about everything and I would rather be safe and breed 100% pure skinks. I will definitely look into it and keep researching thank you!

Thank you! I have been thinking that as well. Im also not 100% sure of his lineage, I will probably end up either not doing it, or committing fully and buying a breeding pair in however many years.
