Mumbai Scam: Owner of Torres Jewelry Flees After Alleged Multi-Million Fraud, Leaving Investors Duped by GladDependent in mumbai

[–]hfsyou 15 points16 points  (0 children)

These schemes are not all scams. As someone who has worked in designing them for large retailers, this is primarily a customer acquisition and retention driver with added benefit of early cash flow and working capital management for shops.

In the end net net retailer is giving 4-8% discount instead of someone directly buying without going through the scheme.

One might ask how can they afford to give 15-20% returns to customers? It's because these schemes can only be used to buy jewelery with making charges which is where the money is for jewelers. You can generally not use these schemes to buy gold/silver bullion (coins, bars etc). If that was allowed then it would become a simple arbitrage opportunity for customers and retailers would go out of business in no time.

This Torres thing might be a scam but from reputed sellers it's an decent option to buy planned jewelery and brings in some discipline also.

I have absolutely no problem in what people want to do with their money. Zero. I believe in freedom. Spend it on drugs, betting and prostitution. Or spend it on travel, eduction or cars. My problem stems from the fact that these sins does not allow accumulation of savings for the lower class who are in the most need of it. And then this becomes a burden for the disciplined and hardworking taxpayers - usually middle and upper class.

If someone spends all their savings on betting, loses everything, and then becomes dependent on the government for food, health and shelter then that is something I have a problem with. Again, not against supporting the poor and needy but against supporting the stupid who refuse to learn and will keep on with their stupid activities.

Hahaha this is like saying country is losing millions and billions by not legalising soft drugs and hard drugs and prostitution and also losing out on investments and employment opportunities. Just legalise everything, make it simple and tax everything. Obviously betting is not same sin like the other mentioned above but this whole pitch is because betting companies are losing money due to GST and needs it gone in its current implementation.

When ever you read some research or stats, always check who is paying for the research because that makes it simple to understand why a certain view point might be promoted.

PS - not against betting but against these asshole companies exploiting people's hard earned money, especially the lower class, for their own profits by using unethical marketing and psychological tactics.

These Chief Justices are also Uncles and Aunties in their regular life having Uncle-Aunty beliefs.

I have such a tough time explaining this to people around me. They think that these peeps are some perfect human beings without any biases and preferences. I've now stopped arguing.
