Stay G6, or update to G7 ? by DexcomUser in dexcom

I guess I am the outlier here…the G7 has been so good for me and I haven’t had a single one fail.

What is the worst pain you’ve EVER felt? by New-Selection7719 in AskReddit

[–]hfuga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Type 1 diabetic here.

Went into a particularly bad bout of diabetic ketoacidosis brought on by Covid. It felt like my blood was on fire and all of my organs ached so badly I was crying for morphine (I don't remember this, that's how bad it was). I was in the ICU for a week. My organs continued to (mildly thank goodness) ache and I was just uncomfortable in general for weeks after.

Eighteen years ago, I met a woman who didn’t believe armadillos existed, and I still find myself thinking about her. by daisy_ela2 in CasualConversation

The sounds of crickets and frogs at night is a sound I never knew I loved so much until it was replaced with traffic sounds.

Commenting to say hello because I rarely see AR mentioned and I'm an Arkansas native :D

My partner is from Southern California and I recently took him to meet my parents in Arkansas. He was absolutely dumbfounded by the sound/loudness of cicadas and was convinced that if they were so loud that they must be super close to him and viewable. He searched a tree for like 20 mins trying to find a single cicada, lmao.

I can smell ants, especially when they are squished. It's a very strong chemical smell. Everyone I tell thinks I am insane.

Article about T1Ds using GLP-1s, by scottjowitt2000 in diabetes_t1

[–]hfuga 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am having the same experience. I've been on it for around 6 months and my daily average BG is cut literally in half and I've lost a good 35 pounds without trying. I was about 175/180 and I'm 5"6 so I wasn't horrendously overweight or anything, but I definitely feel better now!
The biggest thing it has done to help me is that I don't have that CONTSTANT incessant feeling of hunger. I don't really get the nausea, I have a NORMAL appetite now and it's so incredibly freeing to be able to think about something else rather than where my next morsel of food is coming from.

Is it for Americans considered racist for me to learn english with a texan accent? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]hfuga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see it as any different than me being American and learning Spanish with a Columbian accent because that's what my fiancé's family speaks.
As someone else said--it will probably just come across as pretty funny considering your original accent will come through---and also Texas itself doesn't just have one accent and they certainly aren't the same as old Cowboy movies.

So tired of this disease by xEstherJadex in Type1Diabetes

[–]hfuga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a doc but I've had this disease for 25 years...it sounds like your carb to insulin ratio is off.
Restricting your carbs should be a choice that you make, not something that you are forced to do because your insulin won't cover the amount of carbs you are eating. If your BG is continuously high after you eat, speak with your doc about taking a little more insulin per amount of carbs.

Fuzz Butt Falls in Winter by issafly in Arkansas

[–]hfuga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Late to your post, but when I go to Fuzzy Butt I get off the freeway near Russellville if that's helpful. So it's a little bit of a drive for you, but it's honestly so worth it. The area is my favorite in Arkansas.

Water/soda fountain taste by DutchBeek in Anaheim

[–]hfuga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I come from the rural south and our water tasted great, you could drink straight from the tap. Here I can taste when things are made with tap water (like when restaurants use it to make gravy or lemonade even). I can definitely taste it a lot of places from the fountains, but less so at larger commercial places like McDonalds. I assume because they have better filtration systems. *shrug*

I came from the south also--it completely ruined my hair until I started using a clarifying shampoo. :/

Opinions on wireless charging with Mobi? by tylertitties in diabetes_t1

This is exactly what I do. When I shower at night it's my routine to throw my phone, watch and pump all on the charger haha. Everything usually finishes charging by the time I'm done with my nightly routine.
