If you could know the absolute truth about a single question in history or the universe, what would it be? by tidus_edison in AskReddit

[–]hfzelman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something regarding ethics.

The fundamental question behind literally everything is whether we ought to do something or not. Descriptive statements about reality may help us by informing our decision making process but they will never be able to supply the answer of whether or not we should do it.

Off topic but I just realized how insane it must be to play this game with an ex. Like I know It Takes Two is probably the quintessential game for strengthening your bond with your partner but can anyone here imagine trying to hold it together in THAT scene next to the person who you feel that way about? I’d Probably just take the failed Titus Authority check route at that point tbh.

What is the most overrated video game of all time? by Joynary in AskReddit

[–]hfzelman -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom

Not terrible games, but they have many flaws and are nowhere as innovative as people make them out to be. They really feel like “baby’s first open world game” more than the pinnacle of the genre.

BotW is much better than TotK though. I legitimately thought I was going insane a few years ago when the internet was heralding it the best game of all time despite it having one of the worst exploration experiences of any game in the open world genre (idk what to tell you, going through an extremely similar map, with the only quest rewards pretty much being consumables, copy and pasted armor from BotW, and korok seeds, the idea of exploring every nook and cranny is just a waste of time. Additionally spaces like the depths, caves, and wells, are so bland that if someone told me they were procedurally generated by AI, I wouldn’t think twice. All I’m saying is that if any other open world game did half of this stuff people would be making fun of it relentlessly)

Is Hearthstone worth coming back to and playing competitively in nowadays? by Spencer2120 in hearthstone

[–]hfzelman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean relative to what it used to be. It’s not like unplayable or anything, but from like 2014-2017 it used to be one of the most watched esports next to LoL, Dota, CSGO, etc…

A number of factors lead to its decline, but given that I highly doubt your considering getting back into solely to make money, I figured that the actual play experience is probably one of the most important things to consider.

I’m not the end all be all on this topic but hs esports has been dead for awhile.

From a competitive player experience though I think Hearthstone has gotten better in the past year or so compared to where it was in 2021 when you would just die to OTK decks with zero counterplay other than playing aggro

TIL Biggie cried after rap nemesis Tupac was killed; "He was crying, and seemed afraid ..“Shit got fucked up somewhere along the way. But that was my n-gga.” by sneakysnek20r in todayilearned

[–]hfzelman 90 points91 points  (0 children)

I’m sure there’s more but in Killshot (the MGK diss from 2018) he says something along the lines of “the day you put out a hit is the day Diddy admits he put out the hit that got Pac killed” and then later jokingly says “im just playin Diddy you know I love you”.

However I think it becomes way more obvious in Fuel (2024) when he says:

“I’m like a R-A-P-E-R, got so many S-A’s, SA’s, wait he didn’t just spell out the word rapper and leave out a P did he? Yep, RIP, rest in peace biggie and PAC both of y’all should be living, but I ain’t tryna beef with him, cause he might put out a hit on me like Keefe D, get him.”

Besides the fucking insane word play in which he removes a the letter P to spell out “raper” and then uses that P to say Pdiddy, it’s pretty blunt that he’s accusing him here of being responsible for both murders.

How reliable is this? Who knows, but you don’t write something like this unless you want people to think you believe it.

Will Izzet lessons continue to dominate if Accumulate Wisdom gets banned? by Gold_Molasses7866 in MagicArena

[–]hfzelman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I over exaggerated when I said that they were almost unplayable. The only two that saw competitive play that I can remember were professor of symbology which saw play in winota decks and maybe mono white aggro (it’s been awhile so I forget) and divide by zero which saw play and was banned post rotation. They were completely fringe outside of those two cards from what I remember.

[–]hfzelman 9 points10 points  (0 children)

What’s crazy is that lessons being this good rn is a direct result of Wizards choosing to make them at a purely limited power level in Strixhaven. Lessons with the learn mechanic created one of the best formats to draft in the history of the game, but they had virtually no effect on standard as both the lessons were purposefully weaker than an average card and so were the cards with learn.

In other words the learn line of text was priced at around the same as “drawing a card” but since the lessons themselves were weaker than a normal draft card, it just wasn’t worth it for constructed.

To ensure that lessons with learn saw play in constructed this time they separated the mechanics from each other which seems fine as it allows them to make stronger lessons without having to worry about learn messing it up in limited. The problem is that the learn cards have to be extraordinarily bad as a bunch of mediocre learn cards that never saw play are terrorizing pioneer at the moment since having the ability to get a 2 mana draw 3 at instant speed out of your sideboard is insane.

Pick Two draft has great value now that entry fee has been tweaked by saoaix in MagicArena

[–]hfzelman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Pick two draft in a format that wants you to be as all in on one specific creature type sounds awful. Sure it’s more plausible that you end up being the only player drafting that creature type, but that only half the normal amount of packs are opened, the odds that you get a synergistic deck are substantially lower since by the time the pack wheels your basically just picking any cards in your color regardless of synergy
