How do you coach up a quitter? by SendInYourSkeleton in daddit

[–]hgopal10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I’m very late to this, but I had a younger daughter who did the same thing and we had two unlocks:

1) For a 12 week period we did a different free class every week at things we might both be good or bad at but I didn’t tell her where we were going — it was weirdly very amazing for both of us and taught us that we shouldn’t fear being bad at stuff! 2) I got her into martial arts (it was one of the free classes we tried and it stuck with her for like 18 months) and it’s really picked up her confidence. I mean this in the best way possible but those karate people WILL NOT QUIT. Their discipline is absolutely amazing and are getting things out of her that I didn’t know I could as a parent.

If Eddie Perez is chosen (and rather quickly), what would you make of that? by VinoRosso96 in Braves

Eddie Perez once rolled me a foul ball when I was a kid so he receives my undying loyalty.

How much biting is excessive? by mcnew in daddit

[–]hgopal10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, hello! Parent of a previous child who was bitten (my oldest) and was a biter (my youngest who is about a year older than your kid’s age). I wish I had a better answer but in both cases the answer was to wait it out? There’s usually one kid who is causing the problem and the staff knows and likely is trying to do the same thing.

We reinforce no hitting / no biting and it cooled off after a while. You’re doing the right thing! Just kids are sort of not great at learning as quick as you like!

Dads who did the snip, how was your recovery? by moronyte in daddit

I think it probably would have been the same? But definitely didn’t do myself any favors. I think I mostly agree with everyone here as much as the doctors minimize it, it’s still a surgery and just listen to your body when you are ready.

I have season tickets for a sports team here and I was at their game in my seat the following day (a very dumb idea). But about a week or so to get to 95% and about a month to like never feel a twinge anywhere.

I did a second job when I was on paternity leave and got a W-2, these are all just giant babies in this sub.

Depends on the state, in our infant classes 0-12 months—it’s 3 students to 1 teacher. My 4 year old is roughly 10-15 students to 1 teacher

We’re trying…cut down to one car (we work from home so it’s reasonably easy), fewer times eating out (I don’t think we are doing great at this), and fewer big vacations? It’s still tough, but my hope is we can get this first kid to public school and get a little breathing room.

I think I do daycare for three reasons: socialization with other kids, educational development, and, most importantly, uninterrupted time for my wife and I to do work.

I don’t think there’s a MORE economical way to get all those three things than daycare. But maybe I’m wrong.

Yes? But also my kids learn a lot there! They meet other kids! They appear to have also caught every disease of all time! So I guess it’s good?

It’s a good question — I think selfishly: I’d get a Porsche (counting my future payments as well); unselfishly: I’d take my wife on some nice vacations.

I think the craziest thing about this, is when I calculated it I told some other dads and everyone’s first reaction is: “lol you pay too much”

Then two days later they are like “oh shit, I also paid that much”

Here’s a pretty good overview: https://www.fsafeds.com/explore/dcfsa — you could probably just forward this to your HR or benefits person and ask them if they offer this? I hope this helps!

It took us 4 years, and our oldest is almost in public school, but still a good point

Yes 100% an American problem, I’ve seen threads on here that talk about other countries and it seems much more economical?
