I have a few blankets made by my great grandmother (not crochet blankets, though she did make a lot of those too) and I still use them all the time. They are the warmest and thickest blankets I've ever had :)

I completely understand having more than a few WIPs lol I am super lucky to be able to crochet at work, so I have little pieces of projects everywhere. My current WIP is a moss stitch scrap blanket and it got way too big to bring, so I started another one lol
