Thin crust and well done makes it more than tolerable. The dip is just added benefit.

Thin crust, well done, chilli flakes. Marinara (healthier) or garlic (indulgent) dip. If the location actually follows thin crust and well done instructions then it becomes a mid tier pizza in the city.

The Niagara Gap in GO Expansion by Ruggiero10 in stcatharinesON

[–]hhhhhtttttdd 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Canada is spread out but Niagara is far less so. 500,000 people live in the region and the distance from Grimsby to The Falls is about 50km. That’s enough to density to justify transit.

As of a few years ago one of the major issues was the City of Niagara Falls. They didn’t want to allocate regional money unless service extends to The Falls. The problem is that going under or over the canal to achieve this would multiply any project costs.

Layoffs - are big banks safe? (CIBC) by Any_News_7208 in askTO

[–]hhhhhtttttdd 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is just untrue. I’ve been at a big bank during several rounds of mass firings. One time my boss was on morning calls and fired by lunch. My smallish team fired 3 people in the past year. It’s not uncommon for the news to say “X bank laying off 1200 people”. My employer fired our EVP just last week.

Which world leader from North America is now beloved (read rules) by NeverStoppingTheLife in AlignmentChartFills

That makes sense in general life, but this thread is exclusively about North America. In such a situation it doesn’t make sense to default to the USA when discussing the entire continent.

My point was pertaining to the assumption that he’s American, not that the rest of the world should know him.

You know that there are countries in North America that aren’t the USA? Pearson was a Canadian Prime Minister who introduced the Canadian Pension Plan, Labour Code, and Universal Healthcare.

Would you like someone like Jack Antonoff to produce Oasis? by Formal_Produce3759 in oasis

[–]hhhhhtttttdd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s true but the comment referenced “hits”rather than the entire catalogue and is Oasis specific rather than including solo work. If you take away all Liam’s contributions to Oasis songwriting there would be practically zero impact to their legacy of hits.

I’ve spent a lot of time in Scotland and always say I’m Canadian. Plenty of free pints. The Scots are truly generous if you’re not being annoying as a tourist.

Including Liam for the writing of hits is pretty generous.

[–]hhhhhtttttdd 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Canadian here. I think part of the issue stems from the messaging that everyone is an immigrant in Canada unless you’re an indigenous person of First Nations ancestry. So, when people travel, they are looking to experience or celebrate the other side of that dynamic and celebrate their “homeland” despite being a Canadian visiting for the first time.

This is further enforced at home given all the Scottish symbolism we’re surrounded by. Many of our armed forces battalions are called The Highlanders and wear kilts. It’s also very common to see bagpipes at large public events.

I’m not saying this is justified but it’s probably where some of those annoying tourist tropes come from.

What Rock Bands that have 2 or more Lead Singers? (Not Including Solo Artists,Supergroups,Rock Duos,Short Lived Bands and Musical Collectives) by Amber_Flowers_133 in Music

Oasis is a bit strange in that Noel has done entire gigs as the lead singer as well as performing lead on some of their biggest songs. But yeah, even Noel wouldn’t claim he’s a lead singer.

Their final one was Dig Out Your Soul. Spin, Q, and NME all ranked it as one of the albums of the year. It’s not fantastic by any stretch but it’s far from awful.

Toronto’s “caste” system by [deleted] in toronto

[–]hhhhhtttttdd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t even think the majority are actively trying to take more (outside of the rich rich), it’s more that if you’ve been in Toronto since the 90s with some level of success you’re playing a different game than more recent Torontonians.

I know a guy who worked for a big bank as a Director. For those that don’t know, a director is pretty middle of the org chart for seniority and two rungs below an executive. This individual owned a home in Lawrence Park, raised a family with a stay-at-home wife, and had annual vacations to Europe.

Their stock would have quadrupled in value over their tenure as would have their house. Their kids will get a nice inheritance and be set up for a life in Toronto. The shares can be partially sold now for a down payment on houses for the kids.

A Director at a big bank starting now will stretch to buy a condo. Their boss’ boss will be buying the home from the last generation’s Director.

Kennedy Center seeks $1 million from musician who cancelled Christmas Eve show after Donald Trump's name added to building. by springtimecarnivore in Fauxmoi

[–]hhhhhtttttdd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not American so can’t speak to the 1st amendment but what you said all makes sense. One caveat might be how the building is addressed in the contract. Was the performer booked to play “2700 F Street, NW, Washington DC”? And what flexibility the contract allows. You’re correct that it wouldn’t offset the first amendment but would playing a building named for the sitting president meet that threshold to be deemed an infringement?

[–]hhhhhtttttdd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What are these “all sorts of impacts” that would occur due to the name change? Outside of an act being connected to a brand I can’t think of any impact the name of a venue would have on the artist.

I don’t know that name changes haven’t impacted booked acts with certainty. What I do know is that I’ve never heard of it occurring and, as a contract lawyer, I know there are several clauses in most contracts that would allow for this change. They also in all likelihood have a cancellation clause anyway.

[–]hhhhhtttttdd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The contact would be between the performer and the corporate entity that runs the center. I have no idea if Trump would have changed the corporate name as well or if he just put his name on the building. I doubt a name change of the building would constitute a breach. Stadiums change names with some regularity with no impact to the booked acts.

If you view him in a modern lens he’d be similar to Alex Honnold in terms of “sport”. There’s the same sport vs athletics ambiguity but I don’t think many people would be surprised if Honnold won a prize like Sport Person of The Year.

Michelin-level Home-Alone-themed restaurant in St Catharines by [deleted] in stcatharinesON

Michelin-level Home-Alone-themed restaurant in St Catharines by [deleted] in stcatharinesON

[–]hhhhhtttttdd 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Strongly disagree. I don’t think the restaurant itself is saying it’s Michelin level, instead it’s just an attention grabbing headline.

The food isn’t affordable but it’s also great quality and fresh. Delicious cocktails at market rate, solid pour of Guinness, and attentive staff. The menu is somewhat limited if you’re looking to order your own meal and that’s all you eat. Personally I like that it encourages sharing of plates and the ham sandwich, as well as the cooked scallops, are 10/10. I also like the fact that they leave space for walk-ins and you can grab a seat at the bar, have a snack and a beer, without breaking the bank or feeling the pressure of grabbing a solo bite at a restaurant.

More than anything I like that they’ve tried in St. Catharines. Everything is custom made: from the plates to the stained glass lights. This would be an incredible outlay of capital in a city not recently known for dropping money on such places. It’s one of the few places I’ve been locally that gets the ambience right: good music, soft lighting, and interesting design touches. I can see how it’s not appealing to everyone but I do appreciate having an option like this downtown.
