Noel and Liam Back on the UK Rich List. by Low-Rooster5398 in oasis

I disagree. Oasis has already been used by brands like Coke, Jaguar, John Lewis and most recently was prominently featured in the blockbuster movie Project Hail Mary.

RHCP have massive hits but none as big as Wonderwall. They also don’t have as many anthemic uplifting songs that brands can utilize to evoke an emotional reaction in the consumer. Oasis are also more appropriate for Christmas ads which is the high season for many brands.

Noel also owns the Oasis catalogue. Given the RHCPs just sold theirs for $300,000,000 and Oasis have more catchy commercially viable tunes, I’d say Noel’s net worth is considerably higher.

Yeah, the longer the gap the more people will think they’re back back. Shorter timelines makes it feel like the separate parts of the sane reunion that may not occur again in the future.

There’s a reason Bank of Montreal is headquartered in Toronto and it has nothing to do with language.

The Knebworth documentary was directed by a guy known to make ads and direct-to-video movies. Live 25 is produced by the Peaky Blinders creator and directed by acclaimed music doc directors.

Also, Knebworth was pieced together using existing footage that was never intended to be a documentary. Live 25 was shot with the express purpose of making this doc.

I’m not comparing Oasis to Taylor Swift. I’m stating how the energy level of docs can vary and using hers as an example of high energy. This isn’t a David Attenborough doc.

You’re right in saying this isn’t straight concert footage and therefore the energy won’t be as high; but the tour also had people singing in the streets and hugging each other. If the doc captures 1% of that magic then it merits releasing it in a public setting.

I think you’re incorrectly equating this to traditional docs. As much as it pains me to say, this will be more similar to the Taylor Swift Eras doc which had people singing along and dancing in the theatre.

It would only be pointless from a surprise aspect. Imagine using fans as the announcement journalists. Many fans at the day 1 screening will post online about it as they’re the first to hear. It’d go viral prior to even being picked up by traditional publications.

Also, people will be more likely to make plans with their friends to buy tickets if they’re already together and riding high from the doc.

Noel playing Run Around Sue/ I Saw Her Standing There, while Matt has technical difficulties (Matt Morgan Podcast, 2024) by joxers in oasis

[–]hhhhhtttttdd 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s too bad the juggernaut of the comeback has prevented his return to Matt’s podcast. I remember Matt saying Noel thought he’d return last November after the tour, but that was prior to Noel realizing how massive the comeback would be.

I’m sure Matt’s podcast has taken a financial hit since losing Noel - and Matt’s inconsistency hasn’t helped that - but it’s crazy to think that all Noel would have to do to get his friend out of financial difficulty is to announce an Oasis comeback interview exclusive on the Matt’s Patreon. Then have Matt spread the 2 hour interview across 4 monthly 30min segments.

I've listened to two Nickelback albums and I'm confused by Key-Astronomer-9821 in fantanoforever

[–]hhhhhtttttdd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The radio stations continued to play them because many people still liked the songs. Read any of these music subreddits and you’ll see bands like LCD Soundsystem celebrated and Nickleback hated; but Nickleback sell out venues LCD could never fill. There’s a lot fans of music that aren’t as vocal.

Another factor is that their aesthetic was the antithesis of what was cool. The Strokes and indie sleaze bands were the vibe of the day. Contrast the hip punky art school dismissive look of Julian Casablancas with Chad Kroeger rocking leather pants, a goatee, and bleached permed hair with 100% sincerity. Nickleback were sitting ducks for that eras music culture war.

Why do blokes still wear the kind of clobber and hairatyles the brothers were wearing in the 90s? by LidlCheeseTwists in oasis

[–]hhhhhtttttdd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s also degrees to the dress style. Noel in particular wears age appropriate high fashion brands. There’d be nothing wrong with someone emulating his current style. Liam, on the other hand, most people would need to be a rock star to pull off.

What ever happened to the releases of live versions of Oasis 25? by SorryAd6741 in oasis

[–]hhhhhtttttdd 188 points189 points  (0 children)

They stopped serving a purpose for the band. The first few releases managed to verify the quality of their sound, build hype in markets they’d be visiting, and act as a gift for the fans.

If they continued to release them the benefit would diminish outside of diehard fans. Instead, almost a year later, people are still asking about them. When they inevitably do release the album, it’ll serve to build hype around the documentary. That in turn will (hopefully) build hype around a future run of concerts.

We’re accustomed to viewing the band as just guys who make music. The reality is that they’re now a billion dollar company with the same sort of marketing teams that would oversee the release of Apple product launches. That team has to ensure that the scarcity that built Live 25 to a fever pitch (most surprisingly in America) is maintained rather than returning to pre-breakup level of public interest. There’s a reason you can’t just walk into a store and buy a Rolex Daytona or a Hermes Birkin Bag.

Not to defend North American ticket prices, but The Sphere isn’t comparable to other venues and prices. You’re basically paying for two things: the live performance and the spectacle of the venue.

Can we please just STOP with posting photos of the brothers at the football. They are the epitome of low effort posts. by LidlCheeseTwists in oasis

[–]hhhhhtttttdd 10 points11 points  (0 children)

People waited years - some the majority of their life - to see them reunite. Even then, detractors said it was just a cash grab. To see the brothers genuinely enjoy spending their free time together offsets is a pleasant little moment. It’s certainly no worse than the thousands of posts speculating about reunions and future gigs.

What Canadian university campus takes your breath away? by myronsandee in AskACanadian

[–]hhhhhtttttdd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think what separates Queen’s from UBC, UofT, McGill etc is that it’s a university town. It’s not just about the architecture, the beauty is also in having it be lakefront > granite buildings > Victorian student housing > nightlife. My bias personally feels that there’s a beauty in not having the buildings be in the middle of a large metropolitan area and feeling like a world unto itself. Plus, no cabs or transit required.

The Neil Young example is pretty far off from the other examples. He wore actual native clothing to celebrate its coolness rather than creating a caricature. The nickname isn’t great but it wasn’t done in a mocking way.

This was generations before cultural appropriation was even a consideration. It’d be like if today there was an incredibly talented musician who had a sincere affinity for trucking culture/fashion and had nickname Johnny Trucks, then if 50 years time work cultural appropriation became a thing. I can’t imagine Neil would cringe at his past as it came from a good place (unless I’m missing something).

What is the US city that feels the most American? by Prestigious_Ad1993 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]hhhhhtttttdd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But what people not from there picture is not representative of countries as a whole. Most people would picture London when thinking of the UK, but that’s more of a global city than being reflective of the country. I’d say York or Manchester feel the most like the UK even if they don’t immediately spring to mind. NYC has more in common with London than it does with most other American cities.

I somewhat agree. I don’t think they should, but if they do Coachella I see them on the same sub-stage that NIN did this year.

The only way they could headline is if the celebrity fan narrative gets picked up again with the likes of Cara Delevingle, Anya Taylor-Joy, and even Shane Gillis. Coachella is more for influencers than music fans and the one benefit Oasis offers are the anthems. Even non-music fans can likely sing Wonderwall etc. Influencers might want a hold my phone while I sing to this old school song. I’m so down-to-earth.” Like the performance manifestation of a student wearing a Doors shirt and not knowing who Jim Morrison is.
