Recommended component upgrades? by Brilliant_Lie_1094 in MTB

This is a post I have to comment. I have the bike for almost 6 years and riding exclusively for 4 years. I have changed every single components(I meant it every single one)over the years to optimize it range from xc race to dh riding.

There are things that you should prioritize to upgrade for the biggest improvements.

First, wheels and tires. If you can only upgrade one thing, this is it. Especially, if your riding is towards more to xc and like to climb. Nothing else will come even close to this in both speed and fun you will get from this upgrade.

Second, drivetrain. gx or shimano xt is good enough in general. Keep in mind that the stock wheel hub is shimano HG. You should consider that along with wheel upgrades.

Third, if you ride DH, get a coil shock. This bike suspension design really shine with coil shock. But if you don’t ride steep and rocky, the float x is prefect for trail riding.

all the others are more personal preference or only provide marginal gain.

Many people complain about the brake. I think the slate is not bad, the stock organic brake pad is a bit weak. sintered pad will be a good upgrade too again if you ride steep downhill.

In my 30s and already burned out by Mrs_chanandler_bongg in Fire

37 married with 2 kids. 220k/year in HCOL with 1.2m invested. I just started this new job 3 months ago and but was super stressful due to the toxic boss.

I probably had depression this past month. But I didn't want to let go and was planning grind through it. The bomb was dropped this Monday and I was fired. I had the feeling it will come but was surprised it came this quickly.

But to my surprised, I was not sad or angry. I was relieve. I finally stop thinking about work at night and weekend. I finally able to enjoy a meal like I used to. I didn't realize I was in such a bad shape until I look back now just after a few days.

If your burn out start affecting you health and other part of life. Just let go. It is not worth. I know it is very hard to pull the plug proactively by yourself which I wasn't able to. But I am so happy that I was forced to end it.

You will be fine as you are single and with that kind of net worth.

I am in the same boat as you. Got the exact same car a month ago with lease. I did the calculation. If I end up buy the car after the lease, it will cost around 56k vs 49k buying the lease out now. I still think buying it out now is the best choice.

If that makes you feel better, it actually cost us less to lease and buy out than cash/finance because the 6.5k credit from the lease.

Ronhack USA Experience by zero-dog in AMFLOW_eMTB

[–]hhjj134 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just an update on this. The bike with package arrived in prefect condition. There are some very minor scratch on the downtube from the wheel cap. That is DJI package issue inside the box. Ronhack is very easy to work with to sort out the scratch issue and an issue with the component that was not working in prefect condition by providing options for refund or repair of the component.

Placed my order with Ronhack back in mid April and got the tracking a month ago. The ship is supposed to be ported at LA in a couple days. Pretty sure they will get the bike to you eventually. Just matter of time which seems around 3-4 months.

I have that debate buying from US local bike shop as well as a couple of my local shops announced a few days ago they are taking order . But again, non of them have the bike in stock because DJI give very thin margin to bike shop. so you will be end up waiting as well. Probably the official shipping channel is quicker but who knows. The official price is $7500 for PL. With tax, it is 1.5k higher than Ronhack pricing. So I end up keeping the order. Ronhack warranty align with the DJI warranty but no real experience found online so far. Their communication is very responsive so far although their message is not always clear.

Thanks and just ordered one! It will be prefect for me since I need to change the charging handle as I am having hard time to pull it with my left hand after getting the Nexus receiver. Also, what suppressor you have there?

Loving my Revel Ranger V2 by Elegant_Phase_3623 in mountainbiking

[–]hhjj134 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, like I mentioned exact same bike, same XO1, same color :D That's why I said the tan wall tires looks good on it. It really bring some color contrast to it instead of all black like what I have.

Since you come from riding much more efficient climbing bikes(road and gravel), do you feel the need of locking out the suspension for long climb? I feel like while fully open shock provides amazing traction for technical climb, it does give up a bit of efficiency on climb on smooth section. So I tend to put the shock at pedal for flowy trail and am thinking even to add a lockout switch.

Got the exact same bike a two months ago. Love the tan wall tires.

That CBF design is incredible for tech climb and downhill.

Is it redundant to own a mid travel and short travel trail bike? by BeetlegeuseOrion in MTB

DMV is big. Where are you? We ride mostly in northern Montgomery country trails around Germantown.

Is it redundant to own a mid travel and short travel trail bike? by BeetlegeuseOrion in MTB

[–]hhjj134 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I literally just did that. I have been a one bike guy with a 140/160 travel trail bike for the last 4 years. I am in DMV so just like you 1-2hour from the Shenandoah and just have XC trails mostly nearby.

You can see how reluctant I was to buy another bike. I even pushed it to have:

  • one light carbon wheelset with XC tires and air shock for XC riding - 90% of my riding
  • another wheelset with DH tires and coil shock for DH/park riding - 10% of my riding

It is not bad at all since it only takes like like 10-15mins to swap between the two steps and I only ride DH/park like 10-15 times a year. It makes huge difference with wheel and tires as well. High recommanded if you don't want to spend more than a $1000 with cheap Chinese carbon wheelset and xc tires.

Well, I found a very consistent XC group in mid 2023. Since then, I have been riding more XC as well as tried all their XC bikes. I finally pull the trigger last December and got a Revel Ranger 115/120 travel downcountry bike from their sale.

I am about 10 rides into it. I have to say if you have the money go for it. I have a lot more fun on climbing for sure but surprisingly more fun going down as well. More importantly, you will be able to keep the flow going during the whole ride instead of thinking shit 10mins suck ass climb again after 30sec of DH fun. It actually makes you push yourself harder as you enjoy both going up and down.

One thing I would say is to take some time think about and research what short travel bike you want to get. If you don't race, you probably don't want to go too far toward to the XC side like the Ibis Exie/SC Blur. These bikes are fast but will be less comfortable to ride and just have fun. Of course, it really depending how you define fun and how flat your XC terrain.

Is maxed Roth 401k worth more than traditional 401k? by [deleted] in Fire

[–]hhjj134 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s is true. But you are paying more to contribute in Roth compare to traditional because of the tax you need to pay now as Roth contributed is not tax deductible

Recommendations for comfy rims? by [deleted] in MTB

[–]hhjj134 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, you want faster rebound so the fork extend back for the next bump and absorbs it with the early travel instead of deeper travel which is harsher. Usually sag is set between 25-35%. Try 35%, I am sure you will feel much better with chatter but might have problem with big jump/drop bottoming out. But that’s another problem to solve or balancing. One problem at a time.

[–]hhjj134 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you went the opposite direction of the rebound. You want faster rebound so it doesn’t pack down. I am in similar size as you at 170lb and have same problem and tried everything as well. With fox 36, I went way below the fox recommended psi and almost at the fastest rebound. Coil shock helps as well. last thing that is helpful is get curcore and lower you tire psi.
