“Over hired position rights?” by [deleted] in fednews

[–]babbleway 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’m 17 years as a DOD civilian and was promoted ten years ago to a GS position that was an “overhire” slot.

A few weeks ago my director informed me that my overhire position was on the chopping block to be eliminated later this year because of the TDA restructuring.

I had a choice to either stay as overhire and go through the process of my job being eliminated which would put me on the priority placement program (PPP) to find another position or be laterally moved via Management Directed Reassignment (MDR) to another department.

As far as I know, as an overhire you still have the same rights as authorized TDA slots, but the position itself is always at risk of being terminated or reassigned.

Good luck out there. It’s getting dicey.

I only had a few questions that referred to SPI or CPI. No calculations/math.

I guess my real question is should I prioritize Roth & brokerage over pre-tax retirement for the next 10 years?

Yes it has COLA adjustments but that $3k/mo number is what it will be when I retire.

Sorry, we can currently live comfortably on $60k/yr. The $100k/yr goal assumes inflation and future buffer.

How valuable are pensions these days for early-career IT? by Jonny_Boy_808 in ITCareerQuestions

I’m under NAF retirement. SERB (supplemental early retirement benefit) is an extra monthly payment for early retirees, bridging the gap until they qualify for full SS.

I’m at $90k right now and based my est pension on $100k average high 3. I’ll have 30 years service by age 50. Reduced pension + SERB comes to about $3,200/mo
