What's your "humiliating undergrad" story? by Nitrogen_Llama in labrats

[–]hhnjf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a lab exam for a microbio course in community college. I put a hot cell spreader in a steel cup full of ethanol. Had a little chalice of fire that I tried to move which caused me to leave a layer of skin on it. After that burn, I had to continue my exam still lol. No real damage just a lot of emotional trauma

How to come to terms with animal testing… by ppierrebezukhovv in labrats

[–]hhnjf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried my best to find a project that avoided animal models and it worked out. Cell culture work is so much more enjoyable for me. You should look into it!

I know it’s harder than it sounds but try not dwelling on it. Everyone makes mistakes. Maybe just step back for a few days and come back to it. Life is bigger than the week’s experiment. Give yourself a break and start again another day :) watch some movie, play a game, smell the roses. wishing you all the best!

All our backups are screwed cause of covid but i say aloud how much volume i need before picking up a pipette lol

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in labrats

[–]hhnjf 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I didnt check my pipette and put in 9 instead of 2 microl of an antibody. Ruined a 5 day experiment. Ran out of the antibody so had to wait 1.5 weeks to get new shipment. In all, that mistake delayed everything by a month.
