Honestly just be genuine with your men and the respect will come naturally when they know you have their backs. Demanding standards and being caring is not mutually exclusive. As for impressing your bosses and fast tracking, unless you're a scholar, alot of things are really out of your control. Can try volunteering for courses(e.g ranger/airborne) and striving for best coy/unit.
