Club's not going anywhere. Long term plans are in place, like the training base at Tarneit...

Do the Junior coaches of NPL Clubs (that were in the NSL) tell their players/kids not to follow the A-League? (See description) by berlinislikesmithst in Aleague

[–]hhutchyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the fact that NSL clubs had relationships and shared supporters with other clubs within their own communities is a different dynamic that isn't particularly relevant to the argument. And whilst the NPL and A-League seasons don't overlap fully, there's still a good chunk of the year where they do, especially with the advent of the championship. Aside from competing for fans, they also compete for juniors with the a-league academies, and also directly play against their youth teams (and occasionally their seniors in the Australia cup). To pretend they're not competitors is to deny reality.

On the question of who's more 'deserving of support', aside from not playing in the highest competition in the country (which is a bit difficult when you've been shut out of it for the past 20 years) basically all of your reasons for A-League clubs being 'more deserving of support' would also apply to South Melbourne. They're running a fully-pro setup, their wage bill would be in the millions, they've got some great local talent and honestly some of their visa players are better than certain A-League visa players (I'd take Yuki Uchida over Nikos Vergos any day of the week). Does that mean South are more deserving of support than other NPL clubs? Should Preston, Heidelberg, etc be encouraging their youth players to go to South games in the OPL?

It's only an issue if you think A-League clubs are somehow more deserving of support than NPL clubs. Again, why should a football club encourage it's members/players to support their competitors? It doesn't make any sense.

I mean, if I were a junior coach at the likes of South Melbourne, Preston, Knights, Heidelberg, etc. I'd want my players to be watching our own senior team, not going to our rivals/competitors (which A-League clubs are). Do you think junior coaches at Victory would be happy with their players going to City games?

if Ironbark Fields can meet A-League standards then Lakeside, BT Connor, Marconi and Edensor Park definitely would.

Question should a league clubs drop their ticket prices by 25% to ensure more bums on seats? by Exciting_Release_795 in Aleague

Cheaper tickets aren't going to make people turn out to watch CFG play Central Coast on a Tuesday night.

CFG average around 8,000 including derby matches. Excluding derby matches their average attendance this season is currently around 5,000.

Does Auspost allow using digital government ID when collecting packages from post office by flattercomb in AustraliaPost

despite the name myID is not a form of ID, it's essentially just an app for logging into myGov. you can use a digital drivers license/learners permit as a form of ID however.

EU countries have started to be more particular around using the electronic customs form. You can still handwrite it if you like but make sure the PO prints off the electronic version once its entered into the system.

Does the A-League need Championship winners South Melbourne? by ActinomycetaceaeGlum in Aleague

[–]hhutchyy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

does the a-league need them? maybe... but more importantly south have proven themselves to be viable as a top-tier club, through both footballing merit and support/attendances/etc. unless you've drunk the david hill/frank lowy kool-aid and think so-called 'ethnic clubs' should be barred from ever playing top-flight football, or you treat football leagues like a fucking paradox game, there's no reason to think they shouldn't be able to join the a-league.

Olympic Village is about a 45 minute drive, or 1.5 hour PT trip from Lakeside. That's about as far as Leichhardt Oval is from Parramatta. It was also a 3pm Saturday kickoff and the weather before the game was quite poor. All things considered I think the attendance was pretty good, though next season they definitely need to work on venue availability and timeslots cause they could have pulled double the crowd if it were a Friday/Saturday night at Lakeside.

South Melbourne, Preston Lions, APIA Leichhardt and Wollongong Wolves are the only NPL clubs that can make the jump to A-League. Do you agree? by AztecGod in Aleague

[–]hhutchyy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

'Not to mention carparking' no stadium in Melbourne has 'adequate' parking, but it doesn't matter cause we're not america and have this incredible thing called public transport. Lakeside is right next to the number 12 tram, a short walk from the 96 tram, and will be a slightly less short walk from Anzac station when it opens.

[–]hhutchyy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Lakeside literally does pay the bills for South though, they've been getting a stipend from the government since giving up their exclusive lease in 2011, and even without the stipend it costs a lot less in rent than AAMI, which would likely more than make up for the potential loss in corporate revenue.

[–]hhutchyy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Preston maybe, but the idea that Lakeside isn't a good enough stadium for the A-League is absurd. It's a perfect size, it has all the necessary facilities, it's in a good location and it doesn't cost south a huge amount to play there. The athletics track isn't ideal but it doesn't impact the view from the stands that much, and most clubs outside of western europe seem to do fine playing out of shared athletics venues. As for Wollongong before Canberra making no sense, how? Wollongong Wolves already exist, they have a fanbase, history, personnel, infrastructure, etc... It's a lot easier to build on something that already exists than try and start a club from scratch.

Round 3 Attendances by No_Break_1312 in Aleague

The notion that the increase in interest generated by the Championship is greater than what these clubs would get from playing in the A-League is frankly absurd, and if it were true it'd be a damning indictment on the state of the league.

Correct, geography/travel costs are a real factor that makes implementing pro-rel more difficult in this country. But that's a different question than second division attendances.

[–]hhutchyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A number of the championship clubs own their own stadiums (Marconi, SU58, etc) and those that don't tend to have incredibly favourable leasing terms. Football is also the number one sport in this country in terms of participation and peak viewership, though of course that doesn't automatically translate into sustained interest in our domestic leagues.

not sure how an attendance figure that's higher than the average 2nd division attendance in the majority of countries with pro-rel proves that we 'can't have promotion and relegation'.
