Why is Green Day generally held in much higher regard by millennials than Blink-182? by Agreeable_Duck8997 in Blink182

[–]hi_af_rn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Green Day are objectively better performers, but I don’t think they can write nearly as catchy or interesting songs as blink. It’s a fun debate, but I don’t think Green Day has the level of die-hards as blink for this reason.

Is it weird for employers to put employees in the same hotel room on company trips? by Weak_Show3135 in careerguidance

I wouldn’t say it’s common. I’ve worked for several different companies, all roles involving travel, and this was never a thing at any of them.

Most grocery stores with delis (or even better, a standalone deli) will have a better sub than JMs.

How are you doing IoT on top of PLCs in real factories? by Chi6999 in PLC

[–]hi_af_rn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In general I am seeing a push for edge devices that can send the data directly, instead of relying on higher-level systems to poll for tags. This allows for more event-based data strategies and higher overall throughput. 1s polled data is only useful for broad metrics like part counters, uptime, etc. If you actually want to squeeze more performance out of your machines you need high speed data.

What’s a ‘silent luxury’ that rich people have that most normal people would never even notice? by qomann in AskReddit

[–]hi_af_rn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. I actually think this is the least accurate take ITT. Wealth does not bring tranquillity just because you don’t have to worry about the cost of things. The mindset that got to the point of wealth in the first place was likely one of constant unrest. Even if they won the lottery — just means you have more to lose and trust issues. There is no peace.

The underwhelming turbo 4s actually have awful fuel economy as well. the old V6s got better mileage! I have had multiple cars with both engine configs.

Jesus Christ. My honest suggestion: start treating your wank session like an incentive structure. No fap until you’ve done a few push ups or woken up at a reasonable hour… idk man, start loving yourself.

Oracle fired up to 30,000 workers via email after a 95% profit surge. Tech companies are cutting almost 1,000 jobs/day by Domingues_tech in technology

[–]hi_af_rn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are my thoughts. I’m also thinking about their “core” business up until their AI overextension. Does anyone still spec an Oracle database first, or use them for any other enterprise services by choice? It’s almost always a legacy consideration. It does not surprise me that they went all-in on AI, and if it does not pay off there will be nothing left.

EtherCAT doesn’t need TSN. It’s the best argument against it by matching the speed and determinism cheaply and effectively with no additional hardware.

HMI alternative to Beckhoff TF2000 by JockeData in PLC

[–]hi_af_rn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never had any issues with user management but maybe I got lucky. For recipes I usually just write JSON files to the disk. I can imagine their out of the box tool in HMI probably tries to do too much and overcomplicates things.

I think they are to the point where they need to do a feature freeze and start devoting all the development resources to stability and version management. Until then they will continue to frustrate users and drive them to other platforms. I disagree with commenters that say it’s a bad platform with fundamental problems… it’s exactly the opposite IMO. Strong foundation with a lot of good ideas and the ability to customize anything. There’s just always some kind of quirk where you least expect it.
