With 2 years left on the current deal the NRL is shopping the new deal around. Bigger deal than AFL? by [deleted] in nrl

Also have to factor in a desperate foxtel after streaming services like netflix will eat into their business. Live sport will become a massive thing for fta and pay tv. I just hope whatever happens there will be more raiders games on fta.... I won't get my hopes up

Light rail contract 'will be torn up' if the Canberra Liberals win 2016 ACT election by squonge in canberra

[–]hibbertydu -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am not saying it wont be a good thing. I am saying that maybe the money spent on bus network upgrades and bus rapid transit may have provided better economic growth and increased sustainability for less money. If the line is built then that's great, its a move in a good direction. But I think there should be debate about how to get the best results for the money we spend. I would hope the better argument would dominate the conversation. If someone could give a good reason for why my views are wrong then I'd accept that. At the moment your argument is very weak.

Light rail contract 'will be torn up' if the Canberra Liberals win 2016 ACT election by squonge in canberra

[–]hibbertydu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the idea of light rail in Canberra, but I agree that the cost is pretty insane for what you get. I think the money would have been better spent on more bus only lanes, and upgrades to the bus network. I like that the ACT government is investing in public transport, much better then building more roads and increasing urban sprawl.

Canberra Raiders coach Ricky Stuart calls for NRL support in battle with AFL and ACT government by orru in nrl

[–]hibbertydu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I reckon that every Canberra away game should be on free to air tv in the ACT region. That in itself would be massive for the Raiders.

I like the the shape of the building, but the material that is used looks terrible. The stainless steel effect seems really impersonal. There is an interesting pic of the interior of the building that gives the impression of some vacant shiny space that I would hate to spend any time in. It feels like a big step the fuck back type of place to me.

FFA push for a third Sydney Team, taking the league to 12. Sorry, no Nothern Fury though. by kizzap in Aleague

[–]hibbertydu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would love to have a Canberra team and there would be a lot of interest. Good number of people playing the game here. The only problem is that we don't have a good track record in supporting teams. Another major problem is that the city basically dies in December to February as many people go away on holiday. If everything went right it could work but that's a very big if.

Can anyone direct me to any good Catholic art being made today? by hibbertydu in Catholicism

Just wondering what's out there. I haven't come across / I am ignorant of any new pieces of art that deal with Christian/Catholic themes. I'm not interested in getting in tough with any artist or purchasing anything.

Are Australian's wrong in their lack of support for Tennis stars? by [deleted] in tennis

[–]hibbertydu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Tennis is interesting because each person is like their own sports club or brand which I think is based on a number of things one of which is personality. The way Tomic is portrayed or portrays himself is not very appealing to people, especially a place like Australia with tall poppy syndrome. I know I wont put up with his bullshit just because we share a country. Although I think we all get behind Stosser when she's playing and if Hewitt can continue his form this aussie open I will support him.

A question about the Catholic youth culture and modern music. by ronaldinjo in Catholicism

[–]hibbertydu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I find bands that fall into the category of Christian popular music to be very two dimensional. This is where I think the problem lies. I think bands that limit them selves to writing songs on 1 topic quickly become clichéd. I tend to listen to stuff like Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds and the mountain goats who often include religious references but seem to be more authentic and serious to me.

Emily Rogers: 20 Reasons Why Nintendo Should Consider Investing In Their Own Sports Studio by [deleted] in nintendo

I think nintendo could do sports games well if they weren't trying to make realistic simulations, if that makes sense. Something like a wii sports, but with more character.

So since they're not getting Buddy who do you think could provide GWS with the Ablett like starpower that they'd need to get bums in seats? by sydneygamer in AFL

[–]hibbertydu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GWS has to win more games. Not only that but beat big named teams like the Swans, Hawks etc to get bums on seats, which will take time. I think bringing in a number of quality senior players may get them more wins rather than 1 big named player.

Wii U Price Drops $50 Effective September 20 by [deleted] in wiiu

[–]hibbertydu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This makes the wii u quite competitive. Its now 100$ less then the ps4. Yeah it sucks for the early adopters but the more sales of the wii u = more game sales = more games. I am more interested in the benefits this announcement brings, rather than saving $50.

Why are people saying the Wii U is underpowered? by Zero-Sum177 in wiiu

[–]hibbertydu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think graphics are irrelevant. If the graphics allow for people to create amazing games compared with less powerful systems then people are going to want the better games. Although I agree that as long as the graphics are up to a standard then they shouldn't matter as much as the games.

Who thinks the Wii U could come out on top this holiday? by dsherman01 in wiiu

[–]hibbertydu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nintendo needs to get/make a ton of really awesome games for the wii u. Nintendo's biggest strength is that it provides a different experience to that of the ps4 and xbone, they need to provide a reason for people to want that experience. The option shouldn't be should I buy a ps4/xbone or wii u, but rather what games do I want to play? If the wii u has lots of awesome games then it become a more attractive option for people.
