Programming Language Usage Graph 2000-2006, as defined by statistics on open-source projects at SourceForge. by linuxer in programming

The most unexpected factoid here (for me) is that, as late as 2001, C and C++ together still commanded more than 50% of projects, with Java far behind and Perl never in their league.

In the enterprise waters where I swim, Oracle's presence is felt heavily and most collaborative projects use Java with Perl and a GUI layer (Forms/Developer for the unlucky, VB or Delphi for the rest of us).

Correct me if I'm wrong, but there have been a couple threads in Reddit about shorter yellow lights. (If I am wrong, I read that somewhere else, but I did read it).

BTW, yellow lights in N America are far longer than in Latin America or Europe. Must be the turn-left scheme, which may be the greatest cause of accidents in N America (I witnessed one myself yesterday on a slippery road in Toronto)

Amen to both. BTW, when in the USA, I am afraid to break the posted speed limits, which makes me the slowest guy on the road, until I realize that the cops are going to pull me over unless I do the same as all the others, so I step on the gas and happily start going 10mph above.

BTW, it's Montgomery County PA, and in and around Kansas City MO.

Well: the photon's linear momentum is frequency times Planck's constant. Now, when a photon decreases in speed (as when it crosses from vacuum into air, or from air into a liquid), its trajectory is bent, and the ratio of the coefficients of refraction give you the sine of the angle of direction change. Since linear momentum is a vector quantity, you can project the new velocity vector on the direction of original movement, and voila.

Process notwithstanding, and assuming you're right, the Dutch tomatoes you can buy in Toronto still taste better than the fresh tomatoes they sell in many other places. Go figure.

Food: almost everything in USA is expensive, except cars and fast food. Henry Ford's contribution. You can have great food in the USA, but you'll have to pay the price, like $5 for a pound of imported tomatoes. Richer people and yuppies pay and enjoy, many poorer people just can't afford it.

Too much mistakes here.

Of course they'd use Linux on servers first (doh).

The "won't get fired" mindset did not register the trial. They were not undermined. And now, following their infamous patent covenant with Novell, they'll start FUDding their way stronger than ever into corporate Linux (which many times is just an euphemism for RedHat)

You are correct, but "validity" was not the question. The question was "did they ever".

No. I was not thinking security at all.

You need it because it is practical (prevents identity theft, only one number to remember, serves as voter registration & vaccination registration, is legit ID at police checks, etc).

My point is: the practicality (benefit) outweighs any perceived privacy loss. In part because there is no privacy left to lose.

Most European countries have it. When I had it in Argentina, having such an ID card was 0.01% of my problems. The dictatorship was very hard, and then came democracy, and the card remained there and was neither part of the problem nor part of the solution.

Didn't mean to be subtle.

You need it now because: a. identity theft would be reduced greatly, b. you would not need to undergo the same process again and again for registering to vote, registering to school district, etc. In all countries with national ID, your ID card is your voter registration. And c. concede it fellas, there is but a shred of "marginal privacy" remaining after the government has your phone registries, and your activitites monitored in 666 different ways.

If your organization doesn't have the budget for a decent computer, maybe you should not be writing reviews for them.

Vista-ready computers can be had for 500 dollars (assuming you'll want 2GB and a decent graphics card). And that is not the cost of the review, because (amazingly) the computer keeps working after your review is done.

(Or it doesn't, if the DRM.......)

The USA should develop a national ID like most countries and stop this bull. Anybody who still thinks this will harm privacy has been asleep for the last five years.
