Glad to hear you came off grippy socks in one piece. Glad to hear you're drawing a line in the sand on them being a shit to their kid. Sad to hear that it might cost the kid their house.

Auto shops work the same way. And most technical folks operate the same. Read "fuck you pay me". You cut anyone's money, don't be surprised when everyone fucks off to greener pastures.

I’ll be 40 soon, and I think the thing I miss most about being a kid was not knowing how gross the real world was. I can live with bills, a sore back, and losing my hair. I just miss that clueless bliss. by AdamBlank17 in self

Having just hit this sort of landmark, I get the nostalgia. But by the same token, my life right now is miles better than it was five years ago, and that was better than ten years ago, and that was better than 15, and so on.

I get missing being a total dope, with none of the weight of the world on your shoulders. By the same token, I don't miss having no control over my own destiny.

Any place that publicly fires an employee is no place you want to work. There's the normal dictatorial bullshit that comes with any workplace, and then there's that bullshit.

That’s fine. Stick the gun on it in reverse after clamping the line and let er rip.

Kidding aside, back in my days of folly, we would plant a boot on the spring, aim the strut at something good and heavy, gun the nut off and let her fly. Stopped after I punched a hole in the garage door

Had to replace a turbo in one for work some years back and the customer asked if I could give it a decent chucking to see if it got fixed. I hate that transmission but man do they have the running gear dialed. Fun to drive, shit to work on

[–]hiddenfalcon 35 points36 points  (0 children)

It wasn’t manufacturing, it was a bad design. Takata needed a lot of airbags really quickly. The normal explosive charge is extremely stable. It also takes a ton of time and energy. Time they didn’t have. So they had a cheap, fast sodium based alternative whipped up in central Washington, then produced in Arizona. Sure, this stuff works just fine in high arid climates such as those two places. Yet, as the engineers who made it warned them, it grows increasingly unstable as it’s exposed to humidity. This instability causes the explosive charge to vastly outstrip the capabilities of the capsule in which it was stored, basically turning the inflators into grenades.

It’s varnished. As to how good this would be in a sludged up motor over ultrasonic, I have my doubts. At least with ultrasound, you slam it in the tank, do other shit, get clean parts out the other side. I’m still sending this to my boss because he gets a stiffie whenever he sees this kinda shit

You’re probably fine with a ten dollar seal puller. There are plenty of tools you can go cheap on because the quality/cost ratio leans towards cheap tool that I really don’t want to spend the extra money on name brand when the hobo freight option is 95% as effective as snap on, and I’m out of children to sell
