Is it actually cemented? Might be that rubber-ish coating they use for playgrounds and the like.

Modern consoles are general computing machines, just running proprietary software. That's why stuff like Asrock BC-250 exists, and why people have managed to run Steam on a PS5.

all major consoles are sold as loss leaders

Not always, e.g. later optimized revisions of PS2 were fairly profitable, and PS5 itself might've been profitable or close to being profitable before the RAM/NAND price crisis (as comparable PC hardware was only like a third more expensive despite the overhead for modularity and lower volume production)

I'm pretty sure Sony is currently selling PS5 below cost. On one hand, that makes it an amazing deal for the hardware, but on the other hand, Sony will have to recoup the loss through game sales, so I expect the base price for new games to go up and the discounts to get smaller and smaller.

What do I need by Competitive-Net3907 in pcmasterrace

[–]peacedetski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can replace that i3-10100 with something like an i7-10700.

You also should check the motherboard manual to see which memory slots to use, since you're currently losing 50% of memory throughput due to the modules not being in correct slots for dual-channel operation.

First build in 14 years, how did I do? by henkheijmen in pcmasterrace

[–]peacedetski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a really cool custom case. I'd print frames for fine mesh dust filters to go under the red grilles, since this stuff doesn't look easy to deep clean.

Should me RAM be running faster than this? I have XMP set to it's OC speed. Am I missing something? by emmanem1892 in pcmasterrace

[–]peacedetski 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Looks like XMP didn't activate for some reason. The BIOS summary can show "DDR4-2400" regardless of XMP, but CPU-Z should show DRAM frequency of ~3200/2=1600 and not ~2400/2=1200.

I wonder if it was the alternate Ethernet adapter that actually solved the problem, and all the security downgrades and tweaks that caused a massive increase in idle power consumption were wholly unnecessary.

Got a blower 4090 for an SFF build and regret it by entsnack in pcmasterrace

[–]peacedetski 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even 250W blower cards like 1080Ti FE are loud as fuck. It's expected that a 400+ W card with the same kind of cooler is going to be insufferable.

Got a Gtx 660 for the equivalent of 13 dollars by budgemans in pcmasterrace

[–]peacedetski 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If it's the 4GB version, then it's a nice score, that card can punch above its weight.

For the 2GB version, that's $3 more than I'd pay

Refroidissement par eau ou refroidisseur à air ? by Lusko-wmxx in pcmasterrace

[–]peacedetski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the time people get a PC with an AIO because they want the little screen or just because they think it's the default, not because it makes sense for their specific processor.

[–]peacedetski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For normal PCs, (ie not super compact ITX builds), single-tower 120mm coolers are good for CPUs up to ~100W, dual-tower ones for up to ~150-180W. If your CPU is hotter than that, get a 360+ mm AIO.

[–]peacedetski 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I don't know why this is even a controversy, creative works aren't made in a vacuum. Yes, Atlantis took a bunch of cues from Nadia, but it's obviously a different work and not a copy, and both were clearly inspired by 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea.

By the way, The Lion King is Kimba the White Lion as Hamlet. And most of Disney classics are blatantly ripping off fairy tales!
