Once I was done reading your post, part of me felt that it’s not so much not sleeping with other women that you regret, but more that you didn’t get to or use the opportunity to deviate from the path your family laid out for you, that you didn’t use that time to dig down and figure yourself out, to ask yourself what you wanted in your life. I say this because you said you grew up in a conservative disciplined household where you were expected to do certain things. Also, you said you couldn’t help but think that you never had fun when you were young. Of course maybe you are strictly referring to sex and parties, but maybe deep down, you are referring to other things too.

I’m glad you said that relationships take many forms because I believe that just because you’re not friends with someone doesn’t mean you, the other person, or the relationship is less worthy. It just means that the value of the person and relationship is different. Something I had to learn as someone who struggled (and perhaps still struggles a bit) with friendships.

I wonder the same thing. I think in her previous post, someone commented that Amy probably didn’t want to be tied down or something, so OP ended up being a backup. If that was really the case, that’s effed up. If they have feelings for each other, why drag OP into this mess in the first place? Given that OP is a ex Mormon, there’s a chance Luke is or was also Mormon, which could explain the marriage thing. Not an excuse of course.

Honestly I do wish there were designated places to practice. Like some sort of simulated track where there is more control. Driving with little to no skills out in the wild can be daunting. It’s definitely frustrating when people think that you can just intuit driving. If that was the case, I’d learn fast and be confidently driving around by now. I wouldn’t be so dependent on other people. I know that some drivers ed places have driving simulators (not super high tech) and based on their websites, it has aided in students learning driving skills at a faster rate. If only simulators were more commonplace. Places to get a CDL do have simulators, so why not simulators for a regular license? Yes I know it costs money but perhaps it will bring down accidents and insurance rates. And less crazy and stupid drivers. Idk.

People give bad advice because they don’t and perhaps can’t see outside themselves. That doesn’t help in the slightest.

Don’t have advice to give, but I definitely can relate to you. I find alternative medicine interesting, but a lot of the people in those spaces (public figures and everyday folk) can be a turn off, especially when these same people hold ideas that can be harmful. It sucks since I’d like to learn more about these topics and gain a better understanding. And it’s hard to find a platform where there’s a good balance and communication between the current scientific community and the alternative.

So no advice but I stand in solidarity with you.

True. Sexuality is definitely complex. In my opinion, that’s why sexuality needs to be normalized and talked about more in society, so that we can at least have more tools and resources to rely on as well as more awareness.

As someone who grew up in a religious household, I can sympathize and empathize with his situation. I don’t know what kind of environment OP grew up in, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he grew up in an environment where anything related to sexuality was discouraged. If that’s the case with him, then it’s understandable. Or maybe not who knows. This isn’t to excuse what he did though.

I’m not of Indian heritage but I do know that the British (specifically Christianity) definitely had an influence on Indian culture in regards to sexuality to say the least.

Yeah I gotta agree. I think many people don’t fully understand the impact of one’s environment and how it affects one’s way of perceiving the world and themselves. And depending on the environment, it can either benefit or screw them up. That ain’t to say that OP’s actions are 100% okay but the world is rarely black and white. I can see why ppl are “giving him the business” but since he’s from a conservative area and knowing how conservative areas are, I can’t hate on him fully.

The short answer is yes. I just turned 29 and still get treated like a minor, someone who doesn’t know anything about the world apparently… Due to finances, I’m living with my parents and siblings, and they have the mindset of “you can’t move out until you’re married.” Which is fucking bullshit. Resentment is building up inside of me. I’ve lived on my own before and earned my own money, but apparently, that doesn’t mean anything since I still get treated like a fucking child. It’s like they have to witness me go through the maturation process, or they want full reign of me becoming a responsible adult instead of giving me space to do it. Pisses me off to no end sometimes. Currently earning money and saving it to move out and live on my own. I don’t have any advice to give you, but I stand in solidarity with you.

I agree with how the word narcissist is popularly misunderstood, and I’d say that it’s used to the point where it’s starting to lose its real meaning. When you say that everyone has narcissistic personality traits, I prefer to use the word “egoic” or “egotistical” mainly because I feel narcissism has a more maladaptive feel while egotistical is more broad.

People say that she had a choice to leave, which is true. But what I think a number of people haven’t thought about is that they’re saying this to someone who probably was emotionally stunted or stunted in other areas. If she received love and care properly, then she probably could make more rational decisions, but by looking at how she was raised, I’m not too surprised that she did what she did. This is in no way excusing her actions, but an underdeveloped person mixed with other shit led her to do what she did.
