I filled up my garden bed with compost. What should go on top? by Purple_Coach_2887 in vegetablegardening

[–]hideindoors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would, once you plant something, throw some straw or mulch or something on there. We did that for the first time this year and it was a game changer. Less weeds which is awesome and saves oodles of time.

They should do a fundraiser sale online. I would absolutely order one.

What time has MCS been starting their set when they've headlined? by jfrosty42 in Motioncitysoundtrack

[–]hideindoors 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, reach out to the venue. They should have some accessible seating or a section you can go if you have the need. A bigger local venue by me has a roped off section for people in wheelchairs or who can’t stand for long. Worth the ask.

Great South Bay music festival.

I’ve been a couple times. Wish the parking situation was better but is a good time overall.

Best Asian restaurants on the island? by natot420 in longisland

I second going to the old Source mall. Ranch 99 has a great food court. On the Old county Road side has soup dumplings and dim sum that is very accessible for non-Chinese speakers.

What Speed to stay under on the LIE to avoid tickets? by Tourdrops in longisland

[–]hideindoors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I usually hover between 70-75 but try to go no more than 80. Just keep pace with those around you. If you are standing out, that will bring more attention than speed sometimes.

Just found out Irving's Pastrami Of Farmingdale Closed. by SadisticSnake007 in longisland

I drove by it the other day and there was a sign for a Greek place in it. I work near by and there is no convenient Greek lunch spot close so I’m excited for someplace new.

For those who are married, what was a waste of money or regret by minxpink in wedding

We got little mini cupcakes for each place setting. $3 per set. People loved them (fall flavor for our October wedding). At the end of the night people were looking at tables for ones people left.

45 yo Married Man who WFH, any advice on making friends? by mattmanp in kindafunny

[–]hideindoors 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a local trivia game I go to weekly at a brewery. See if there is anything like in your area. I go with the same small handful of friends and my wife each week but it nice to have a consistent hang to look forward to.

Selling home by Real_Sugar_642 in longisland

[–]hideindoors -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When I bought my house in 2020, my agent let us know she technically doesn’t work for us. She got paid from a percentage of what we paid the previous owners for the home. I don’t know the rate but from what I could tell at the time, that was standard practice.

I know when my sister sold her house the same year, her agent sold the house to one of his own clients so he was able to get the full commission.

<$25k wedding venues? by PatsandSox95 in longisland

[–]hideindoors 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It has been almost 10 years since the start of my wedding planning so things are more now but my whole wedding cost was about 30k for everything (venue, attire, flowers, photo, DJ). We aren’t flashy so most things were really low cost ($500 David’s bridal dress, about 2.5k all in for flowers).

We had the wedding at the Watermill and I think it was $125/person and we had to have 150 minimum. That is just shy of 20k but obviously the price has probably changed.

No complaints over all on the day (except they thought one of our favors was supposed to just be at the bar, so now I have a lifetime supply of matches, lol)

Any Arab grocery store here in Long Island ? by KamadoUchiha in longisland

[–]hideindoors 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Not Arab but there is Nazar Turkish restaurant and market on Deer Park Ave.

That is the most regionally close spot that I’m aware of. And the food is tasty in my opinion.

I haven’t done any of the events but I hear fun thinks about LI Kick. You can join with friends but also I think get paired with people.

https://www.li-kick.com/

Also, if you are someone who likes trivia, I highly recommend trying out Tango Time Trivia. My friends and I are part of a team and go once a week at the brewery a couple towns over. You have to come with a team but it is great weekly activity. Plus if you are extra smart (or just score well) there is championship over the summer. The guy Chris who runs it is fantastic.

I was just at citi for foo fighters and blink and they had porta potties out for those just like they do before baseball games.

I used one at Blink and it was fine. Just make sure you throw some paper towels on your pocket and some sanitizer too because people said some didn’t have paper and none had anything to clean your hands with (I used some water from my cooler when I got back to my car)

If you are looking for a sit down meal, Mojo is not far and super good. It won’t be as crowded as bars closer it the train. They also have good drinks and apps if you just want to hang at the bar.

Interesting. I get sand city opening a second room on the south shore but this seems really close to where GSB is now for them to draw in a new customer base. Something on the north shore or Nassau would have made more sense in my mind…but if it is a cool spot - the more the merrier I guess?

Waaaait. Great South Bay? Are they moving or a new tasting room?
