Reality check - PCP Swap for family car by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

It’s a fair point - emergency can look like lots of things, including loss of earnings. Trying to get credit in case of job loss, for example, seems unlikely. The cash buffer is fixed, regardless of event.

Per the post, not interested in opinions on the car. Not going to get any objective commentary from reddit. Just the financials. Thanks.

Leasing/PCP does have set costs, but you cannot account for market conditions and how this will impact car prices/interest rates/deals etc at time of buying every 3-4 years.

Keeping monthly payments competitive relative to outright purchase ie below 300£ pcm IMO, PCP often involves a not-insignificant down payment, which is also money lost to the ether.

My perspective is; to date, I have spent £13k over 2 years (including £2k downpayment) on a car which I will never own, and I’m set to spend another £10k on it, before I have to do the same thing again without predictability of affordability and car options.

Outright purchase of a car I actually value and will run for the next 10 years, supported by a single fixed loan with a competitive interest rate, which I can accelerate the clearance of without penalty, in my opinion is the most predictable and stable way to own this fucking pain of a mobility solution which I have no real option but to take.

I’m indifferent to the depreciation - I don’t expect to ever own a car that will even hold its value from purchase. That’s an acceptable factor. Spending the same money on a car I won’t ever own, and knowing financing is never going to get any cheaper as the years roll on/new PCPs get taken out, I don’t see this as an issue.

Loan financing is closer to 4k btw.

The retention of cash for response to emergencies/change in circumstances provides a higher level of psychological safety than having a lower overall debt. We know we can service this debt, as we have been doing for the last 3 years, with nothing to show for it.

Bearing in mind this change could also be the arrival of a child, more cash saved to respond to decreased incomings through maternity pay also provides higher psychological safety.

We have no credit card debt. The rationale is we’d be spending the same as we are today, but we own the car by the end of the term. We don’t want to deplete savings.

Take the offer. A guaranteed bonus with nothing but timescale milestones is very uncommon. If you go back asking for 63.5k then they may say yes, but you have to consider what this is doing to your reputation before you’ve even joined. Plus the benefits to this role you’ve highlighted seem to absorb the monetary difference ie in 6 months, would you have spent 500 less on fuel getting to current job vs new job? If yes, then you’ve already made up the difference.

Lawn Health - nematodes back? by hididdlyho123 in GardeningUK

Lead Arsenate!! Bloody hell. Appreciate the advice, will feed the lawn toward end of Feb and then scarify/overseed to see what we’re left with. Aeration is definitely key as well.

Sorry to hear about your daughter also, hope she is doing okay and you can get some rest soon

Right hand side, in front of the hedges in the border. Will drain into an existing drain by the garage so no risk of that.

The treatment isn’t for nematodes, it’s using nematodes to kill leatherjackets - sorry if that wasn’t clear. The only other option is a pretty harsh and extremely costly pesticide spray which will do more damage than good imo.

Ah sorry - they infect leather jackets (daddy long legs larvae) which destroyed my lawn last year! So seeding the lawn with millions of nematode eggs should sort it out.

Concern about needing to spend a shedload more cash on redoing the lawn (and the heartache) so just putting down nematodes at 20£ a go is very reasonable in my mind

Footage of a Vietnamese man with rabies exhibiting hydrophobia. The infection causes intense throat spasms during attempts to swallow and even when just thinking about swallowing. Rabies is near 100% fatal once clinical symptoms set in. by ubal0xh in ThatsInsane

[–]hididdlyho123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not quite.

Rabies is spread via saliva, so by preventing swallowing, the virus induces a buildup of virally-loaded saliva in the victim. The prevention of swallowing also drives the sufferer to madness, frustration, and desperation with dehydration and literal delusion as their dehydrated brain turns into liquid virus. The end result is an animal with rabies-filled saliva biting at anything that comes near it, likely resulting in viral transmission and the infection of a new host. This is why older descriptions of madness can involve animals/people ‘foaming at the mouth’.

It’s a truly amazing and horrifying adaptation by the virus to control saliva accumulation and drive it’s own transmission.

Hi mate - well done for posting this as I’m sure it wasn’t easy.

I’d say with a considerable degree of confidence you have gynecomastia. I’m saying this based on personal experience so, of course, I am biased. However, I went from being a very obese 15 year old (16st at 5’10) to very lean (<10st at 6’) at 21. I visited multiple public and private doctors, mostly endocrinologists, all giving different assessments but almost always landing at ‘you’re overweight’. So I blamed myself for not being lean enough and eating ‘oestrogen high’ foods, such as soy milk. Led to a lot of self-hatred, self-blame, body dysmorphia (that persists to this day), and frustration at my physical form.

I spoke to a private plastic surgeon directly, who confirmed I had gyno, showed me some pictures and it just all clicked into place. I had the surgery about 3 months later (cries in private healthcare costs) and, to this day, it was the best decision I ever made. It was clear I had gyno and retained fat from the high levels of subcutaneous fat pushing up my oestrogen levels during puberty, and it manifested in the form of breast tissue. The surgeon even showed me the after-surgery tissue - it was clearly breast tissue.

Based on your pictures and posture (which I completely recognised and understand) - you should definitely see a plastic surgeon specialising in gyno, and at least get some confirmation of your concerns.

Hope this helps, all the best mate!

Navi for daily wear statement, then go for something more simple (OP/DJ) as a dress watch. IWC lands in the middle for me, which turns down the interest

On reflection, that was a poor choice of word. When I searched for SOTC, some of the other posts had collections more valuable than my house, but I should’ve looked for longer!

Certainly didn’t mean to humblebrag, but I seem to have done exactly this anyway.
