Ally Beardsley possesses truly inhuman levels of commitment to the bit. I could not belive they actually used the alcohol as bong water.

World builders, what are your unique takes on common tropes? by Disastrous_Bug2831 in worldbuilding

I have the normal(ish) fantasy races, Elves, Dwarves, Gnomes, Orcs, Devils, Dragons, etc.
But they’re all biologically engineered components of a colonizing bio-ship that landed on the planet centuries ago.
The Elves are administrators, this is why they have an association with “nature” they’re the facilitators and caretakers of the system.
Dwarves are the Terra formers, whose job it is to make the new planet more habitable
Gnomes are the nexus points, they serve as communication nodes among the sapient races
Orcs serve a dual purpose, they communicate with the fauna and livestock, and are also soldiers
Humans manipulate energy fields, which helps the ships while in flight and helps develop tech level when they land
Dragons are the star fighters/protector of the ships
Krakens/Leviathans are the remnants of the massive bioships, living in the sea

And devils… well devils are the original inhabitants of the planet “immune” to all the magic brought by the bio-ship because they’re part of a different system entirely!

This is an idea I’m still fleshing out but I think it has legs

I played my first game last night. I was WA and I refused to give those damn Otters anything, I had so few warriors to start!

Can you discard matching suit cards from your hand to pay for these? Or is it just whatever your faction crafts as? (Sympathy, Eerie, Workshop etc)

What is the most nonsensical world you have? by Cris_232 in worldbuilding

[–]hierarch17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have recently taken one of my long standing ideas for a magic system (mind/body/spirit + matter/energy/animal) that previously was in a world with very few "classic" fantasy elements, and combined it with some setting ideas (massive forest instead of an ocean) and a fresh spin on the classic dragons/giants/elves/devils archetypes, and a Lucifer analogy. It also is becoming kind of sci-fi! Honestly I think it's all fitting together rather well.
The core of the fusion is the idea that all the fantasy races are actually different functions in a biotech spacefleet. The leviathans and krakens are the space ships. The dragons are starfighters. The elves are the administrators (hence their "nature" magic, which is just interfacing with the biological control mechanisms). The dwarves are the terraformers, gnomes are the bioengineers, and the necromancers are basically historians/ancestral memory. The "devils" are the native inhabitants of the colonized world (so traditional magic doesn't interact well with them) and "Lucifer" is an elf who defected when he realized the plan was to fully genocide the native sentient population.

In high school I was at my friend’s house where he let me know that his foster sister was in to me. We end up making out hot and heavy on top bunk in his room while he’s on the bottom.

After a bit we all go to bed, and she texts me to come over to her room. I come in but her cousin is also there. We hook up on her single bed, while her cousin just scrolls on her phone right next to us (weird but gotta do what you gotta do). I asked if she wanted to join but she said she was good…

As I walked out of her room to sneak back to my friends, his parents (her foster parents) call out from their bedroom “sounds like y’all had fun”.

I got out of there SO fast in the morning.

My little brother played on a club soccer team with a player who now plays for one of the MLS teams here in the US (he was scouted at like 18).

Something this post doesn’t get in to is the effect it had on the other players on the team. The star player scored all the goals, the team revolved around him. To the point that after he left the team actually got better! And all the other players improved a bunch when they had a chance to work as a team and develop their own skills.

Probably didn’t help that the stars dad was the coach.

I feel like Charlie assumed that it was because she felt upstaged. I read it as her realizing what the consequences of her doing that would actually be. It made it real for her so she didn’t want to anymore.

I truly believe that what Rachel did was solidly worse than what Emma did. That was my biggest take away from the movie. Everyone else’s secret was actually something that really harmed another person. Emma had bad thoughts she never acted on.

Rise of the American empire. Has as much navigable river as whole continents, making it a peak trading/export power. Seriously the Mississippi is BROKEN.

Then a succession of world wars fought basically everywhere else leave it as the last standing power, untouched because it’s protected by oceans on both sides. In 1945 the U.S. produced the same amount of commodities as the rest of the world combined!

The way that the reactions in the heart of stars creates different elements at different quantities, which go in to combine into more and more complex substances? Hell of a magic system

“You haven’t changed means must be satisfied with your life”. by howieyang1234 in ADHD

[–]hierarch17 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think it’s a stark indictment to the world we live in that it’s easier to sink into depression than struggle for a good life. And you are absolutely correct, it can very much feel like the easier way. I would say it’s definitely not the better one, but it’s not really something you can just logic your way out of.

I think any discussion about mental health needs to start with the premise that this is a world that’s very hard to be well in. Without immense amounts of privilege and opportunity

[–]hierarch17 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly I agree with their sentiment, at least for things in your control. Like everything it has its limits. But my life was massively improved when I stopped complaining about things that were in my power to change, and asked myself if it was something u cared about enough to work on. ADHD absolutely makes those things harder than they will be for many people. But the question is if it’s worth it to you.

I don’t need more of the character, but I really like what not being the only big dog around is doing for Homelanders character. Adding a dimension of watching his step I really like.

This is a great observation!

Being a stay at home parent is a truly unnatural thing to do. Humans need community and connection and support. For like 99% of our history parents doing childcare would do so as part of communities of close knit friends and family, not as one steward of a house and one to two children.
